Application Wizard 2.3.2 (Mac OS X)
Cannot add preference panes to group ![]()

Ok, I tried to reduce the startup time by creating a startup group and adding apps that were getting loaded during login. I am unable to add preference panes, daemons, etc to the group so I can lazy load them as I don't really need them the very second I login. But when I navigate to Library/PreferencePanes, all the items under it are grayed out whereas I need to navigate well deeper into say: LazyMouse Preference pane > Content > Resources > LazyMouse but I can't even get past Library/PreferencePanes because they are grayed out. Drag-n-drop items is not enabled either. So, although I was able to add a few items to my startup group, I am really confused if it is reducing the startup time and saving me any time or is it really worth it. What's the reason adding preferences panes, daemons, etc is disabled? Without this option, I don't think this application is replete with features... Are the developers going to add these features to it? [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)
As to why would anyone sit on a page like this only to defend the software strongly for every post is beyond everyone. If I bought MTR as a customer, I would not sit on its page to defend its merits, benefits and advantages - I have better things to do in my wonderful life. Strange that you even want to follow up with me all the way on ripdifferent.com? I haven't seen anyone defending a software like you - after all I did not say it is bad or suggest others not to use it. What's even stranger is the fact that you call me a fraud even before I try ripping the movies you suggested. Thats too premature and a desperate attempt to wind me up! Posters with an overinflated sense of importance who don't thread their discussions in the same comment but post as separate messages to make their arguments stand out, and instead overwhelm the commentary with their awesome words. Seriously dude - trim your comments and flail it out. [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)
v2.6.6 is just as good as v3 !!
There are several posts and responses on this page and elsewhere suggesting to pay and go for v3 and those posts are from none other than the developer himself. True, he deserves to be paid but what he needs to do is to get out of the beta and release the stable version, make it shareware expect to get paid. That's the only way to make money. Running an application in beta for nearly a year is not a good sign. As for the posts/responses stating v2.6 is so old that it does not work anymore is WRONG!! I have tried v2.6 with dozens of latest releases of Hollywood movies including the ones from Pixar who are notorious for introducing bad sectors, etc. to make these DVD copy programs fail. v2.6 has worked just as fine as v3 with absolutely no differences in performance. I noticed that v2.6 displays different space requirements for full disk extraction (more) and main feature extraction (less) while v3 displays the same disk space as needed for both modes. On another occasion, while trying to rip the Snow Buddies movie, both versions of the program bombed half-way. I tried ripping two other copies of the same movie and they all bombed indicating v2.6 and v3 are not good enough to tackle the modern copy protection techniques. In this case of Snow Buddies, I tried Fairmount and it mounted the DVD without a glitch and I was able to copy the files to my hard disk and then rip them later. Fairmount worked where MacTheRipper v2.6 and v3 failed. Bottom line - v2.6 is just as good as v3 and there is absolutely no truth in saying v2.6 is too old to work. Its just an old wine in the new bottle - maybe with some bug fixes, enhancements that are too transparent to make any difference. [alert admin]

DVD2oneX 2.2.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Well, I may be wrong in a way - correct me if I am: 1. If I insert a DVD with no enough room on it to copy the source, it scans the disk, source, etc and at the end bombs saying there is not enough space on the DVD to burn calling me to start over all the process that is wasted. 2. If I try to burn a DVD but the process got aborted half-way due to no space on the DVD (image file created by this time), and I insert another DVD, there is no way to just burn the already created image file to the DVD. I have to start over the process again! This happens even if there already is an image file and I have no way of burning multiple copies from old image files. Common, the data/image file is already created and all we need to do is just burn it to the DVD instead of re-creating the file. Provide another option to burn from an image file? 3. If the source is located on the hard disk, is there any way to directly burn the output to the DVD without creating the intermediate image file? Or, can there be an option to auto-delete the image file on successful burning of the DVD? These image files are as large as the DVD (upto 4.4 GB) and users may forget to manually delete them to recover the lost space!! Thanks! [alert admin]

AguaT 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)
iTunes interface is an indication of change
I guess the current iTunes interface in Leopard looks more modern than the outdated aqua. Look at the thick and ridgy scrollbar in aqua and compare it with the flat one in iTunes. Doesn't the scrollbar look more modern in iTunes? If you look further into iMovie, Aperture, etc., the dark gray interface is the most modern and aesthetic looking and I hope Apple implements these modern interfaces all over their already most beautiful OS!! I would rather leave iTunes as it is now ;) [alert admin]

Froq 2 2.0rc1 (Mac OS X)
Their website offers only 1.x for download
This is a follow up to my earlier post. The 2.0 version is available only on versiontracker but not on the developer's site which is why it was not connecting to sqlite. However, even the 2.0 version does not connect to sqlite databases that are auto-created programmatically by a php script created with these privileges: _www : Read & Write staff : Read & Write everyone : Read & Write Get Info say the sqlite database file is a Unix Executable File. It bombs saying the database is encrypted but whereas SQLiteManager (another app) connects to this database file without any problems. How can I get Froq to open the above sqlite file? [alert admin]

Froq 2 2.0rc1 (Mac OS X)
Why do they say on their description it works with SQLite, etc whereas it seems to work only with Oracle databases as it is asking for installed Oracle JDBC driver? Even the help file does not list any items how to connect to a SQLite database. I tried dropping a sqlite file with no luck. The connect dialog has server, port, database, userid, password but sqlite needs only the name of the file to connect to (no userid/password, etc) and the connect button does not get enabled until some info is filled in these text fields. Simple Floating Clock 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Allow Click Throughs menu option
Ok! I installed and tried the "Allow click throughs" right mouse button menu option and now nothing happens on clicking on the clock - the click goes to the app that is directly behind the clock. This clock does not appear under "Force Quit" or app-switcher (alt+tab) or have any active menu items. I uninstalled it, rebooted the machine and reinstalled the clock but still the preference "Allow click through" is persistent. How can I undo the "Allow click throughs" option and bring focus to the clock and get the right mouse button menu? Very frustrating because I cannot move the clock!! [alert admin]

MTR 3 developer claims it is 50+ versions ahead of MTR 2.6. why would it take 50 versions to release a stable version and what's taking so long? Is that a good sign?

Again, your intentions with supporting the MTR 3 are obvious. But I must reiterate MTR 2.6.6 is just as good as MTR 3 and has never failed me on dozens of the latest Hollywood movies. If MTR 2.6.6 failed on ripping a DVD, I found that MTR 3 failed too on the same DVD. I just gave an example of Snow Buddies but have at least a dozen examples where this fact is confirmed. Well…

Ah, I still have the 1.21. version.
Hi, Do you have a copy of 1.21 to spare me? I upgraded to Leopard and now I miss these games. Since I heard they are messing up Address Book, Mail and other apps, I would rather stay with the earlier version. Please let me know and if you happen to have a copy of 1.21, please email to screenmates1@yahoo.com. Thank you very much for the info...
