Development stopped on this product in November 2008. Have tried to email tech support several times over the last month in regards to bug fixes -- ZERO response from the company. Cannot recommend this product at all. [alert admin]

Keyboard Maestro 3.5 (Mac OS X)
Indispensable utility for Mac OS X ![]()

We've been using Keyboard Maestro since the very first version came out in 2001, and this program just keeps getting better and better as time goes by. We can honestly say that a Mac just wouldn't be a Mac without Keyboard Maestro running on it. If you like using your keyboard to control your Mac, Keyboard Maestro is a must-have utility. The technical support is excellent, the program is continually updated with new features, bug fixes, and OS compatibility, and the program is just a sheer delight to use for just about anything that you can think of doing with your keyboard. Keep up the great work, Stairways Software. [alert admin]

Witch 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Doesn't work with Spaces; slow/nonresponsive tech support ![]()

Great product but doesn't work properly with Spaces. When you use Witch's keyboard shortcut to cycle through ALL of your applications when Spaces is active, Witch won't show you all of your applications from the OTHER spaces. It shows you SOME of your applications from the other spaces, but not ALL of your applications from the other spaces. You actually have to switch over to that other space first and THEN use the keyboard shortcut to cycle through those applications that are located in that space. But then the same problem crops up over there -- the applications from the PREVIOUS space that you were in don't all show up again. Emailed tech support about this issue 2 days ago and haven't heard back yet. Will consider upgrading to a better review if we hear back from tech support or get this issue resolved in a future update. [alert admin]

Retrospect 8.0.608.1 (Mac OS X)
We are professional Mac consultants who have 17 years of experience of Mac consulting and troubleshooting with over 150 clients. This new version of Retrospect, version 8 (and the subsequent update, 8.0.608.1), are ABSOLUTELY NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME YET. The program is a nightmare. There are TONS OF BUGS and problems in this software, and as a result -- YOU WILL NOT BE RELIABLY BACKING UP YOUR MACS! If you take backups seriously, DO NOT INSTALL RETROSPECT 8 until perhaps 2010 or 2011, when EMC Insignia has worked out all the bugs in this product. EMC Insignia has basically released an alpha version of this product onto the world and labeled it as "commercial software". Do NOT be EMC Insignia's guinea pig, like we were at one of our client's location. You can view all of our postings on the EMC Insignia Retrospect 8 forum under the name scotty321 to see some of the many many many problems we -- and others -- have been having with this software. AVOID. WAIT UNTIL 2010 or 2011 when EMC Insignia has worked out all the bugs in this product. [alert admin]

Interarchy 9.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Clumsy interface, lousy help system ![]()

I've used many of the FTP programs for the Mac, and this has got to be one of the worst. The interface is HORRIBLY clumsy & unintuitive, there is no manual at all (just a very sparse help system), the website has no tech support FAQ's on it... overall, this is just a very clumsy product. There's confusing terminologies like bookmarks & scheduled bookmarks, and they are nearly impossible to figure out... you can't take a bookmark and turn it into a scheduled bookmark, so you have to start all over again from scratch if you want to schedule something. Then, you can't even see the results of a scheduled bookmark without double-clicking on it -- which STARTS THE TRANSFER ALL OVER AGAIN! If you start something off as a "mirrored" transfer, you can't later change it to something else. And there's all sorts of quirks in the interface which make it impossible to navigate. For example, you may find yourself (like I did) scratching your head for an hour why you can't click the "Save" button after creating a scheduled bookmark. That's because you forgot to type in a password -- even though the password bullets already appear there, so you think that you already typed in a password! Overall, this is a shoddy product with a complete lack of attention to detail. I would personally avoid this at all costs. [alert admin]

Dantz Retrospect client 6.2.229 (Mac OS X)
Does not work on Intel Core 2 Duo Macs ![]()

If you install this Retrospect Client on ANY Intel Core 2 Duo Mac (which is the entire lineup of Apple computers these days), the Client will automatically turn itself OFF after the Mac is put to sleep, which makes it utterly useless to be used with a laptop -- or any other machine that would be regularly put to sleep. This problem does not happen with earlier Macs. [alert admin]

Filemaker vCard Creator 3.0 (Mac OS X)
We tried every way imaginable to get this product to work properly, but it simply doesn't work. Even though it creates a vCard file, Address Book cannot import the file that is created. Address Book simply reports that "No importable cards were found." We finally realized that we didn't need to spend $10 for this non-working product, but rather that we could do it for FREE by importing our FileMaker data into either Palm Desktop or Mozilla Thunderbird. BUYER BEWARE: AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS ![]()

Folks, I have tried to stick with this product throughout the years, and just like clockwork, every time a new version of this product comes out, 100 things break within in the product. New to break within this product: - Palm syncing no longer works again. This is one of those things that has always been flaky in this product, and yet again, it no longer works. The conduit SAYS that it has synced your data successfully, but indeed, it has NOT synced any of your data in EITHER direction: either from your Palm to SOHO Notes... or from SOHO Notes to your Palm. Even when choosing to COMPLETELY OVERWRITE either your Palm or your Mac, it just doesn't work. - Exporting notes no longer works at all. As previous people have said, this function just no longer works. - Dozens of other minor things no longer work in this verison. Folks, the company that makes this product is a shoddy one. Take a look at the other reviews. NOBODY is pleased with this crappy product that continually breaks. Save your money and invest it elsewhere -- in QUALITY software from QUALITY companies. This company is NOT a quality company. [alert admin]

America Online (AOL) 10.3.7 (Mac OS X)
AOL sucks. They have never come out with an Intel-native version of their software, so running AOL on an Intel machine is NIGHTMARISHLY SLOW!! AOL IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST. [alert admin]

Retrospect 6.1.126 (Mac OS X)
Does not work with Core 2 Duo Macs ![]()

If any Intel Core 2 Duo Macintosh goes to sleep while running the Retrospect Client, when it awakes from sleep, the Retrospect Client says that it is "on" but in fact it is no longer broadcasting itself to the Retrospect server. The Retrospect application on the server machine can NO LONGER see the Retrospect Client. The thing that causes this to happen is the Core 2 Duo client machine going to sleep. IT IS SLEEP WHICH CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. In an environment with laptops, we can't just simply say "don't sleep the computers" because people take their laptops off-site with them and put the machine to sleep just by closing the lid! This happens on ALL Core 2 Duo Macintoshes, this is reproducible 100% of the time, and it happens in Mac OS X 10.4.8 and 10.4.9. [alert admin]

Apple Computer uses this program nationwide at all the Apple Retail Stores on all of their machines. Whenever a machine is restarted in an Apple Retail Store, the machine INSTANTLY reverts back to its "approved state" that the store wants that particular machine to be in -- ALL customer changes are deleted & reverted back. So I would say that that's a pretty good testimonial for this software.

Yeah, that slow database speed is a real killer in this program. I don't know what Chronos needs to do to speed this program up, but it's just atrocious. It takes us 20 seconds just to open a new viewer window. The slowest program we've ever used for Mac OS X.
