OnSync 1.18 (Mac OS X)

Great tool

Originally used OnSync for an older CDMA Samsung phone that couldn't connect via iSync, and for which Bitpim was sort of dicey (and ugly). OnSync worked perfectly immediately. Then I got rid of the older phone for a GSM Samsung, and compatibility was broken; developer was very helpful in getting it back, actually updating the application itself to add compatibility. Then I got a Razr V3 and it didn't seem I needed OnSync after all that--it works with iSync. Wrong--well, not wrong that it works, but wrong in that OnSync is much more flexible in choosing what contacts to sync (or not). [alert admin]

UnRarX 2.2 (Mac OS X)

With some work, it would be a great program

UnRarX generally handles .rar archives quite well. There is really little to say about how it works, except to comment on three improvements that could be made: 1) better password handling. If an archive is password-protected, unRarX will still try to (unsuccessfully) expand it even after saying so. This can take a little while, though it can be stopped (but see #2). Better would be for it to stop and prompt for the password (or a chance to cancel before doing any more). You might not even notice that it failed, because it LOOKS like it's expanding, but there'll be a small error message at the end. 2) it doesn't play too well trying to expand multiple archives. If you realize the three you're trying to open are password protected, UnRarX will try to open them all without asking for the password (and thereby fail). But hitting the stop button on the toolbar (there is no menu equivalent) will only stop if for ONE archive--you'll have to wait for it to try expanding the rest. 3) it would be nice if you could get a preview of the expanded archive. If the person who made the archive packed sixty files but didn't enclose them in a folder (i.e., archived the files and not a folder with those files), you could then have those sixty files expanded all through the enclosing folder--which may already have many files in it. That is, if you have Downloads folder with two hundred items, and expand a sixty-item rar, those sixty items will be throughout the Downloads folder (and you'd better hope there's a way to find the parts of the archive, like a single creation date or a common-denominator name). Do Something When 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Echoing the other reviews

Fabulous product. It is ideal in my view: it makes using your Mac simpler, but you otherwise don't notice it. That is, it's simply there, doing what you need, without having to invoke it (once you set it up). One of the chief ways I use it: I have a series of important documents I keep on a USB flash drive (so I can work on them on my G5 and my PowerBook). Since I have a bunch of flash drives around, I back up the docs to two of them. With DSW, when I plug the backup flash drives in, Synk (the wonderful freeware version) is automatically launched, allowing me to back up with a click. DSW then unmounts the backup drive when I quit Synk. Flawless. I, too, found I had a problem updating to 1.1.1 (from 1.0.2), so that drops the rating for Ease of Use a bit, but otherwise it's 5 stars in all categories. [alert admin]

Decimator 1.0 (Mac OS X)

What does this give you?

Type any fraction (as a division operation) into OS X's Calculator, and you get the decimal equivalent. You can then easily copy and paste the result. And that works with ANY fraction, not just the ones pre-selected here. [alert admin]

GPSBabel 1.2.5 (Mac OS X)

So far, the only answer for Garmin USB GPS

So far, I've found *no* other application that does what this one can: upload and download waypoints/tracks/routes to my Garmin eTrex Vista Color, a USB-based GPS. Nothing else even sees it, but MacGPSBabel 1.2.5 has had no problems making the transfers. [alert admin]

No longer available

Why rate it one star? You not being able to find it has nothing to do with the quality of the application.

installer flaws & bugs

Unfortunately, I also found that the only way I could update was by deleting the prefs file--otherwise DSW simply would not load when selected from System Preferences. Fabulous utility, otherwise.

Boycott Endicia!

Oh, please. Don't you know how common this is? I'm glad that a developer has decided to make a version of their software for OS X. So long as it does the job well, I don't care if I have to pay a premium. As much as we like our Macs, we have a far smaller market share; development costs have to be recouped, and that may well mean higher software prices.
