Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Stellar Phoenix Mac 2.1 = Big Trouble!

So after an accidental format of a full back-up hd I quickly went ahead and bought this software thinking it would recover all my files in a flash - I hard could it be?! Well, You'll have to log-in as root - WHY?! Never mind, then the application finally starts-up and presents you with this eighties looking interface and icons all rather badly arranged with nasty graphical and interface glitches - is it just a rather dirty recompile from the windows app?! Again, never mind so long as it gets my data back. So I click the buttons to see if it finds any older directory structures - nada, so data-scan it is - which looks like it takes a few hours to get through my 250GB drive. 5GB, 10GB, 15GB....files are popping up in a long list and folders according to file type - phew! But hang on! where's Phoenix gone??? Did it crash? It just disappeared...Hmmm, ok try again.....20GB - zap! gone again! Ok, a few emails, phone calls and days later (btw, what are they saying?) they send me and 'updation' of the software??? what?! Now it gets to list up to 30GB of files before it crashes - wow! I need the files, so I ask for a refund as obviously their software doesn't work as advertised (at least on 10.5), and they do have a 30-day money back warranty. But no, they put me off and tell me they're working on the problem....err, I need my files now and want to purchase some other app...no luck they just email some rubbish about further 'updations', which arrive a few days later. Oh! data scanning seems to work now - great! 50GB, 80GB, 150GB....counting.....200GB, 250GB, 350GB, 500GB.......2699GB! What?! I only have a 250GB drive???? Well, I have some sort of list of files.....Lets have a look at that list of files then and order them by size; whoops that looks a bit random with 10kb files being listed a bigger than 9598kb, etc. Seems the programme has a problem counting, and I'm not sure it actually does know the difference between kb, MB & GB. Oh well, I might get my files back, lets try and recover a nice big tiff-file then......???? Didnt I just run Stellar Phoenix for Mac? Where is it?! Oh no, its crashed again?! Ok, they do have a money back policy and they said they would issue a refund if this software 'updation' will not work either...so another phonecall and email to explain the problems I keep having with their product....nada...they have the nerve to tell me they are trying to solve any problems and ask me to be patient? I have been trying to get my data back with nasty bit of software for 2 weeks now! I'm not a beta-software tester, nor am I prepared to pay for the privilege of being used as their guinea pig. I'd like my money back so I can buy something that'll work. Its a shame you cannot quite understand what they are saying on the phone or even the emails, their english is so cryptic - but one thing is clear; they will try very hard to not issue a refund for a utterly useless piece of software. Be warned! ;-( [alert admin]
