BitRocket 0.1(25) (Mac OS X)
After trying bittorrent, tomato, and azareus, this was the only one that didn't give me a lick of trouble. Everything just worked, and it was so f***ing easy! Thank you for making something that simply does what it's supposed to do. [alert admin]

Trash It! 3.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Still perfect after all these years... ![]()

As one of the first users of trash it! way back when, I came to love this little script from the get-go. Files in the trash that the system still thinks are 'in use' get deleted, files or folders with permissions locked up so tight simply get moved to the 'can' and then deleted, and when I have a previous system folder (sent to the trashcan after an archive and install), trash it removes all 10 billion files (overstating for effect) without me having to sit by the computer to respond to the annoying 'this file can't be deleted, blah blah blah, as trash it will just do it while I do other things. As for the last poster who said he needed to sign up to download, I just clicked on the 'Download' link here at VT.com and it worked fine. I'm a staunch supporter of any *good* freeware developer, especially a company that produces high-quality items, and if NNSW continues doing that, I will continue rating their software on the merits, quality, price (none!), and support. The latter is probably the biggest factor that separates NNSW from other programmers I've dealt with, and they get an A+ in my book. [alert admin]

Apple Mac Pro EFI Firmware 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Well, I don't have a RAID of any kind, just three internal hard drives, and it gets to the screen with the update bar on the bottom and restarts without updating. Have tried at least SIX times, even reverted the RAM amount back to its shipped amount. No good. Previous updater worked perfectly. Anyone else out there without a RAID have this issue? [alert admin]

UNO 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)
I've tried Firefox, Safari, both links provided by the author, FOUR different extraction utilities, and absolutely nothing works. I even cleaned up all the hidden garbage files that Stuffit leaves behind when it chokes on a file. Why the author would put this in a .bz2 archive instead of leaving it as a .dmg is beyond me. But if some kind soul wants to post a working dmg to rapidshare.com and share it with us, that would be a better than dealing with this ridiculousness. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X Intel 10.4.8 (Mac OS X)
On Apple's detailed description page at their site for this update, it says: "After installing the delta version of this update on an Intel-based Mac, the computer will restart two times...". I read this (thankfully I think) before applying this update, and after it installed without incident, it didn't want to restart a second time. So I did the second one manually. Everything seems to be working fine, but only time will tell as I use more apps. [alert admin]

Customer Tracker 2.7.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
In May 2003, the author left a comment that he was working on version 3.0, albeit slowly. That was over THREE years ago! In fall 2005 I emailed the author to ask what the status was and was told 3.0 would be out in early 2006. I could either pay for the current version, or wait, but I'd still have to pay the upgrade fee for 3.0. Thankfully I didn't. Either the author needs to let people know on his site or here that Customer Tracker has given up the ghost, make it open source, or, and I say this regretfully, get off his arse and release 3.0 already. There is a HUGE hole to be filled with these types of apps, and CT in its current state is still better than all the others I've tried as far as ease of use. With that said, it's buggy on Tiger and missing basic invoicing/estimating functionality. And I'm not going to pay for 2.7.3, then pay an upgrade fee a few months later (if an upgrade is even coming), when the cost of 3.0 alone would be cheaper! If he's stopped or 'slowed' down development because payments have dried up for the current version, then he might want to consider that people generally don't want to buy something that is covered in cobwebs! Even an interim release to show he's doing something is better than nothing. So please, dear developer, let us know what is going on, and stop saying "it's coming." The phrase has lost all meaning at this point. [alert admin]

The title of this review is how your document will read if recorded by ViaVoice (The software is barely usable). And after just reading a review of Nuance's latest version of NaturallySpeaking, now at version 9, and how it requires no training with 99% accuracy, I went to their website to see if they had a Mac version. They do, but it's STILL this garbage, which I had bought when it first came out, upgraded it to this version, and found it completely inaccurate (why Nuance is still selling this on their website is beyond me). After a few months, I uninstalled it and haven't looked back. I've only looked longingly at what XPers can use. Of course you can use NatSpeak 9 on an newest intel Macs (with Apple's Boot Camp utility, a copy of Windows XP, a U.S.B. adapter on your headset, and the annoying chore of having to start up in Windows each time you want to use it), but if you're like me and waiting for the intel PRO desktops, you're out of luck. If you call that lucky. Haven't tried iListen yet, but I would really like just 1 Mac-only app like NatSpeak to work right out of the box. No training involved. [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 3.2 (Mac OS X)
Still no Flash 8 font activation or plugin!
Time for a quick rant. Flash is one of the most popular apps, if not the only one, for creating flash websites, and there is still no friggin plugin, so after activating the fonts you need for a project, you have to restart flash. Very annoying. [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 3.1 (Mac OS X)
After using this before and not loving it, I decided to give v3.1 a try, and was VERY impressed with everything. After it installs, it plops a disk image in the application's folder with just about every activation plug-in. This can be very deceiving because if you turn on the auto-activation in the preferences, only the quark plug-in is necessary (figures). So don't bother wasting your time installing the plugins as they are completely unnecessary, even when you quit the application. They didn't update the user guide for this release, and the readme's with each plugin are incorrect as well. Just thought I'd share that because if I hadn't read a review elsewhere, I would have promptly installed the auto-activation plugins. I tested my Adobe apps without the plugins, and it worked seamlessly. Even after I had quit the app. How refreshing. I was using linotype's fontexplorer (be sure to turn it off or uninstall any previous font management apps), but I've now switched to this incredibly stable, intuitive, easy-to-use font manager (took only 5 minutes of usage!). I was astounded by the font validation checker (linotype would just give you a folder that said 'undefined' if there was a font problem) and the speed. Give it a try, but unless you use Quark, ignore the plugins disk image that gets installed. The only complaint I have is that Flash 8 doesn't have a plugin and fonts are not automatically activated. If you do activate a font, you have to quit Flash and restart it for the font to be seen by your project. Very annoying and I hope that insider software can find a workaround. I would also like a way to preview fonts without having to add them to the library. [alert admin]

QuickAccessCM 1.7 (Mac OS X)
I've been using this for years and years with never a hiccup and the same can be said of this release. It's one of those progs that you can't imagine using your computer without, and functionality that Apple should have included from the very start (especially if you use a two-button mouse or control-click a lot). Give it a try after reading the simple directions, and you'll be wondering how you've managed to get along without it. Stable, easy, simple, and extremely time-saving features. [alert admin]

The fact that your permissions, as you say, were so messed up all over the place would be a good indicator of of why you couldn't delete items easily. I've been using trash it for years and in all that time I have never had a single problem. I also repair my disk permissions at least every 2 weeks which helps immensely in preventing undeletable files from appearing.

Turn your cable modem off (and router if you have one) for at least a minute. Turn it back on and see if that works. I have comcast too and any time it hangs (stops working), turning the modem on and off fixes it instantly. I think it has to do with that new powerboost software they use on their servers. Also make sure you have Ethernet set to Configure automatically in the network preferences…

This might help. Under its Tools menu, run both the Clean Font caches options (one for system, the other for applications). Then optimize your font database (Tools menu). If that doesn't help, Download and run a cache cleaner like Cache Out X or Cocktail (I use the former), and clean all your caches, swap files, and virtual memory with that. ALWAYS restart your computer after doing this. Also, be sure to repair your disk permissions…

Thanks for the update. I'll do what you suggest. I still can't find version 17, unless it's under another name. The version naming scheme is confusing. Is it named under something else? Thanks.

I thought I was the only one with this crashing problem. It always comes down to memory allocation errors in the RAM (which tested fine using TechTool Pro). I did notice that if I have ImageReady open while using Golive, it will crash consistently. If I quit or don't launch ImageReady, Golive will go hours without a hiccup. I did turn off version cue 2 in the Preference Pane (it's turned on by default…

You have to type sysctl -a in the terminal. Otherwise you'll see all the different options (which is what it sounds like you got). Make sure it's in the root Library folder of your startup disk (not your User directory), i.e., Macintosh HD:Library:StartupItems Then check sysctl -a in terminal after restart. You'll find with some cable and dsl modems that you will take a speed hit and should simply remove it from the StartupItems folder (above).…
