MyPopBarrier 2.4.0 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't help in fight against spam

Removing your email from the email server (including one configured with pop3 protocol) without actually downloading it (moving it from server to your machine) is not going to help you fight spam. If the server has accepted the email for delivery, then it's already in your inbox. It's being held for you. Downloading the email using a client application (Mail.app, Outlook, Eudora, etc), and then deleting it, is the same as deleting it directly from the server. The email has been delivered. The email server has already accepted the email for delivery. Deleting your email directly from the server does not make a spammer think that his/her email can't get through to you. When your email server/service accepts the message for delivery, the spammer marks your email address as 'valid'. While this application may function well (as designed), and it may help you prevent trojan/virus infection, it will not help you fight/reduce spam. [alert admin]

The Logo Creator 5.1 (Mac OS X)

Version 5.1 was initially posted in Jan of 2007, why release it again?

I don't get it. Version 5.1 of TLC, was initially posted back in January of 2007. Why is it being re-released? The wording for this 5.1 update is identical to the 5.1 update posted back in January of 2007. I checked the developers web site, and I couldn't find any 5.2 release, or any explanation as to why the 5.1 update was being re-released. FYI: As for this softwares usability. It's great for creating web banners and logos. I have no doubt that it's not the sort of application that a huge commercial entity (such as Apple, CocaCola, Ford, etc) would hire to do a logo for use in mediums outside web pages. For web banners and internet logos (for use on web pages) it does a great job. I don't think any design studio/commercial art department would think that they could create multi-media logo design directly from an application that costs as little as TLC. On the other hand. This application is great for web based designs, logos, and banner text. For that it gets high marks (in my book). [alert admin]

Can't download the application

As of this update 5.11.13, I cannot download the application. The links all point to a gpg signature. A .asc file which contains the pgp signature file. I can't seem to find the actual download anywhere. [alert admin]

Em@ilCRX 1.3.5 (Mac OS X)

Three updates in 5 days, but no "What's New" comments

This software has had three updates in a period of five days, but there haven't been any "What's New is this version" comments for these past three updates. Is this developer changing, updating, or improving this software at all? Perhaps VersionTracker should prohibit, or not include 'updates' that don't include a "What's New" paragraph. They could run a comparison on the previous versions release (otherwise a developer could simply repeat the previous comment) if necessary. Releasing new versions (without any actual updates), is a pretty sneaky way for a company to get visibility. As long as this software is in the daily VersionTracker listing, it's going to get exposure to all the subscribers. I tried visiting the developers website in order to see what they had to say about updates, but they require a 'registration' in order to use their forum website. That's just wrong! If companies/developers aren't actually updating the software, they shouldn't be included in the "Today's Updates" listing. [alert admin]

Em@ilCRX v 1.2.8 (Mac OS X)

Challenge response after receipt?

Challenge response only works if the email is not accepted for delivery prior to validation through a challenge/response routine (server side challenge/response useing message transfer agent). Accepting the email first, then challenging the sender (client side challenge/response using user agent) is not an effective way to stop spam. Once the spam has been delivered to your email server (and accepted), the spammer moves on to the next victim. Additionally, challenge/response typically (if it's using bounce responses) results in more abuse (by bouncing/replying to envelope addresses (From: or Reply-To:)), than the spam itself. The developer does not provide enough information on their web page (and there is insufficient documentation included with the download). We need more information in order to determine whether the c/r system implemented here is effective, harmful or useless. Is this an MTA or UA solution? Does it use bounce messages or server initiated responses? [alert admin]

StickyBrain 4.5fc1 (Mac OS X)

What's new in 4.5fc1?

Recent upgrades for StickyBrain - We saw 4.0.6 then 4.1b6 and then 4.5fc1? I have no idea how these updates are progressing. At least they're moving upward. After searching in vain, I could find no information regarding this recent update. So what's new? Well, the Read Me included with this latest download (4.5fc1) Has the following to say: Version 4.5.0 New Features • Added new dock to side of screen called DockNote which lets you easily drag and grab any kind of content into the software. DockNote also lets you easily paste content from notes into the current application and it records items that have been copied to the clipboard. • Added support for flagging notes • Added support for assigning labels to notes. Labels consist of a name and color which can be edited. You can also search by label. • Added audio recording capabilities to Audio notes. • Added support for blogging. Notes can now posted to blogging sites that support the Atom protocol. • Added new Daily Notes and Journal folders. When a note is created in these folders, the current date and time are automatically inserted into the title field of the note. • Added support for viewing and editing notes in full screen mode • Added support for printing from any application directly to a PDF note in StickyBrain • Added support for printing Bookmark, Web Archive, Image, and PDF notes • Added support for searching for text in a Web Archive note by pressing Command-F • Added support for option-clicking tabs such that all but the clicked tab are closed • Added support for importing any type of file by dragging the file to the application icon in the Dock • Added a Downloads window when importing URL's to let the user know the status Key Improvements • Fixed problem where the character and word counts sometimes weren't correct.  • Fixed problem where private notes that were left open would automatically re-open even though the "Hide private notes when quitting" option was selected. • Linked files are now correctly opened when launched from a File note. • Can now press the TAB key to move the focus from the folder list to the note list in the Viewer window (shift-tab moves from the note list to the folder list). "command-option-]" and "command-option-[" cycles between open tabs in the Viewer window. • Fixed problem that would cause the iPod Sync command to be disabled if the iPod folder was expanded • A Bookmark note will now correctly handle web URL links that try and open a new window by going to the web URL in the current window • Minimized note windows are remembered between software launches • Fixed printing of wrap to page notes with a page break • The Grab selection and Paste note sounds are saved correctly now • Fixed problem that would cause the buttons in the Find window to be grayed out • Fixed problem with column settings not being remembered between software launches • Added preliminary support for assigning labels to notes (not yet fully tested) • Fixed problem that would cause files in a File note to not open • Fixed problem where the width of columns wasn't being restored correctly • Fixed problem where printed PDF notes were not aligned correctly on the page • Fixed problem with linking a file to text that would cause the file path to begin with http:// instead of file:// • Fixed problem that would cause a note to not save when using the Rewrap Paragraphs command • Fixed problem that would cause the QuickNote hot key to not clear properly • The created and modified dates of a note now appear correctly in Spotlight searches • Personal database names now use an underscore character in place of a space character in the user's short name • Bookmark notes now presents error and bad certificate messages when loading web pages • Rearranged and simplified the Note Info and Folder Info windows • Moved the Empty Trash command to the application menu • The lookup password feature now uses the default font of the Password folder when it creates a new password note • Content grabbed from Mail now uses the subject of the selected message instead of the viewer window's title as the title of the note • Optimized opening and viewing PDF notes • The ChronosNotesService application will automatically be started if "Enable at system startup" is enabled when StickyBrain launches • When viewing PDF notes in a separate window the pages numbers will no longer stay synchronized between the PDF in the open window and the same PDF in the note in the viewer window [alert admin]

StickyBrain 4.1b6 (Mac OS X)

4.0.6 is available under 4.1b6 install

After installing the 4.1b6 beta (haven't really tried out the new features yet) over the top of a registered version of StickyBrain 4.0.6 (I'm running Mac OS 10.4.6 on my Dual 1.8Ghz PowerMac G5), I've had to disable the check for updates feature. My 4.1b6 version announces the presence of an update (to 4.0.6), every time I launch the application. Apparently, the 4.1b6 version thinks that the 4.0.6 version is the latest version. I guess I'll have to leave the auto-update feature (Preferences -> General -> Check for updates) disabled, until an even 'newer' version is released. [alert admin]

EasyFrame 2.0 (Mac OS X)

No discount for existing users? No new features?

I bought a copy of EasyFrame a little over a year ago for $15.00, now version 2.0 is available. There's no discount for existing license holders and there appears to be NO new features. Sure, it's UB now, but that's hardly incentive enough to pay $18.95 for a new version that contains nothing new. I think I'll opt for the keep my old version 1.2.7 until there's actually some sort of improvement. There's also the free 'Image Tricks' alternative from BeLight. [alert admin]

Leopard?

Inkscape works on my G5 PPC (10.5.2) with XQuartz 2.1.4 version of X11. It took nearly five minutes to start on the first launch, and there was no splash screen, so I didn't know it was launching. Now it launches in about ten seconds. Give it another try. You may have to wait a bit for the first launch.

Can't download the application

Only by removing the .asc from the link <http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/pcgen/pcgen51113_full.zip.asc> will you be able to download the actual application. After it downloads, you will not have a Mac OS X .app application. You'll have a folder full of Java stuff. Only by clicking on the pcgen.jar file, will you be able to launch the application. What a pain. First you can't download the application, because they linked to a pgp signature file. Then we don't even…

It works

In regards to my comments regarding a lack of update comments: Please see the VersionTracker web page for this software (Em@ilCRX). See the title labelled "What's new in this version:"? This is where a developer should indicate the changes pertinent with this particular version of his/her software. Now, look for the title labelled "Information Related to Version:". Select the following versions (v1.3.3, 1.3.4 and 1.3.5) from the drop-down menu. These three updates were posted in…
