WhereIsIt 3.96 Build 423 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Great product, rude developer

This is an excellent disk catalog tool. Unfortunately my experience with the developer is the same as others. I haven't used the application for years and wanted to get back into it. My license file and serial number went missing over the years of upgrading email clients and external hard drives.

I sent one request for a new license file; the developer never responded. I sent another request, attached an email from him dated 2003 as some amount of proof. His response:

This request violates conditions for proper license use and license reissuing in more ways than I can count. Not only there is no proper identification as a registered user of any kind, the one very vague detail that is provided is incorrect, and you are actually attempting to receive the license to a freemail address. This kind of actions directly promote fraud and are not tolerated.

Given there were repeated attempts in violation of stated conditions, the privilege of reissuing lost licenses is now void for this license.

The irony is I sent this from my MobileMe email address which costs me $99 per year. I'm unclear how that is Freemail.

You've been warned.

Microsoft Virtual PC 6.1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

VirtualPC 6.1 update from 6.0 works fine in 10.2.6 and 10.2.8

I bought Virtual PC and installed it before MS rebranded and issued the 6.1 update. I've successfully run Windows 2000 and XP under both versions with no problem. I recently updated to 10.2.8 (from 10.2.6) without problems. I don't use the USB functionality, but networking (AirPort and wired) has worked fine. Only thing odd, which I just noticed, is VPC tells me I have a 667 MHz G4 when it's actually an 800. Perhaps I am misreading it. [alert admin]

Linksys 1-4 port cable/dsl router 1.45.7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

1.45.7 problems with XP and OS X 10.2.8

Today I upgraded from 1.44 to 1.45.7. TFTP from XP didn't complete the first time. Re-ran and it updated OK. All settings lost. Found Internet traffic sluggish but moving along in XP. Later discovered that I couldn't download files - they'd stop part way. Using OS X 10.2.8, I could not get to any web sites from Safari - timeouts. Could not get to Software Update either. Ping worked fine. PowerBook worked fine earlier in the day at Starbucks. I downgraded to 1.44.2z and these problems have vanished. Settings needed to be re-entered again. Version 1.45.7 didn't work for me - your mileage may vary. Otherwise my Linksys router has been good to me. [alert admin]
