Apple iMovie 8.0.5 (Mac OS X)

No matter how much they update it...

...it's still terrible, absurd, incomprehensible, illogical, annoying. The worst program Apple has ever released... and it's even more depressing when you think iMovie 6 used to be nice! I only use iMovie 6, with many nice plugins that of course iMovie 8 doesn't enable, being so rich of features itself (lol) [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.2.0 (Mac OS X)

A step back for Entourage

Since I updated Office to 12.2, Entourage takes much longer to launch (and it hogs the computer until it's done). It doesn't crash like someone said before, but it's slower for sure. I can't see anymore the images embedded in html messages, even after I allow the application to download them. In all, a very bad update. [alert admin]

Transmission 1.71 (Mac OS X)

Adding my 5 stars too...

...Because Transmission is still the best torrent client, in my opinion. [alert admin]

aMule 2.2.4 (Mac OS X)

Huh?

When I expand the tar.bz2 archive, all I got is a folder full of source files (I guess). There is an AMule.app with a "no access" sign: it's a mere 504KB compared to the 45 MB of the 2.2.2 release, and of course it doesn't run at all. I guess this is a folder for developers/advanced users who know how to install this stuff properly, but it should be explained better for dumb users as me. Thanks in advance to anyone who brings better infos. [alert admin]

Transmission 1.50 (Mac OS X)

Excellent and free

Since I keep seeing bad reviews that make little or no sense, I add my 5 stars here. I've been using Transmission since version 0.7 and it has always been the best one, in my opinion. It's stable, with no frills, free, easy to set up and control while in use. I also tried many time to compare its speed with other torrent clients: there were no big differences with the same files under the same conditions. Those who claim it crashes or it doesn't work well should chek their settings better, because here it works just fine. [alert admin]

MacOSaiX 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Strange bug

I've used Macosaix in the past, with very nice results. This new release has a serious bug for me: the nearly white areas are filled with dark tiles. The borders of the white area are ok, but in the centre the tiles are dark. In the same way, nearly black areas are filled with light tiles, giving a weird effect on shadows. I tried many different images, formats, tiles combinations, number and cropping settings with no success. I wrote the developer, who kindly replied me and sent me a new beta release, which unfortunately has the same problem. From that moment, I had no more news... he didn't reply to my mails anymore. Anyone has the same problem with Macosaix? MacPro, 10.5.4 [alert admin]

BatChmod 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Does it work?

I've tried to change permissions to a few folders, with absolutely no success. Everything stays the same in all of those folders. I'm surprised because I've used BatChmod for a long time... any idea? Macpro, OS 10.5.2 [alert admin]

Heidrun 0.7.2 (Mac OS X)

It doesn't work on Leopard

Since I upgraded to OS 10.5, Heidrun fails to load the users list, and hangs forever... It's a pity, because it used to be the best Hotline client. Does anyone know how to contact the developer, asking for workarounds or even if he can recompile this nice little program? Thanks [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Mac OS X)

Incompatibility with Fontexplorer X

Fontexplorer X was in my login items, and as soon as I updated to 10.5.2, I got many issues with several applications, including the dock, which freezes when I try to open a stack/folder. When I quit Fontexplorer X, everything is back to normal. I hope they fix this soon: it's my favorite font manager. [alert admin]

Improve the Rating

The main reason, if you don't know about it, is that since version 5 GE introduced an autoupdater that installs stuff in your computer at root level, which connect to the net every 2 hours or so. There are no other apps which dare to do so, not even Apple ones. Such thing is unacceptable, dangerous and not necessary, since a common "upgrade on demand" feature would be more than enough.

This "Pale Face" is Stepping Out of This ...

So, let me understand: you gave 5 star to this software as a joke, you never actually tried it and the stories you tell are just (not funny) lies. Then Ban_This was right when he said you're a liar. Please post reviews about software only when you really try it, or you're not doing better than those banned user you mention. Thanks.

Booooo!

Limewire is another protocol, and works in a different way. Giving a bad rate to Transmission because you like LW more is simply nonsense: you should rather compare it to another bittorrent client. In its field, Transmission is the best.

Does it work?

No way: I've relaunched the Finder and checked the folders again before and after that... no permission has been changed. Very weird! And more: every time I close the window, it crashes and I got the warning "the application has unexpectedly quit"... The info says "BatChmod version 1.38 (1.5)" ...is it the correct one?

Failure

Just ctrl-click on any floating clock and choose "view in menu". ...And of course you can set the apperarance for each clock in preferences. That wasn't difficult, was it?

Google Earth + Google Stars = Google Universe

I think the application hasn't changed much: it just loads a new database, which doesn't lie in your HD, and it works in the same way. Welcome Google Stars!

not great

You can't give a bad rating for something that a program is not supposed to do! NO VoIP in the world can give you free phone calls, can you understand it? Now you should give 1 star to iChat too, since you can't make free calls to telephones with that either. Skype works great and it's 10 times cheaper than the regular fares for international calls.
