ThinkFree Office 3.2.0785.07 (Mac OS X)

Doubt that I will...

I have a version that's several years old. It's slow, and quite often it won't open a Microsoft Office document, which is why I bought it. I'm willing to assume that the new product is much better than mine, but there's no discernible upgrade pathway from a prior version, and there is absolutely no way to contact anyone at the parent company, by email or telephone, even if you're willing to pay for the privilege. With just a touch of effort by this company, which another $10 added to the purchase price would probably fund, this could probably be twice the product it is. I've "recommeneded" ThinkFree Office because of its price, and I still may buy it to try out the new version, but it's like ordering something at a post office office box number off a TV add. Their effort to avoid you is obvious. [alert admin]

Now Up-to-Date & Contact 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Beware, revisited

Let me correct an earlier post... I reported yesterday that ancillary text information stored in Now Contact, version 4.5.3, had been lost in version 5.0.1. This is not correct. The information is still there, but by default the window displaying this text is hidden. [alert admin]

Now Up-to-Date & Contact 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Beware

I have been using Now Contact to store important notes for many of my contacts. For instance, under "Adobe" and "Dantz," I would store the license codes for Photoshop and Retrospect in the text entry windows provided at the bottom of the address cards for these vendors. All of this ancillary information vanished with the upgrade to 5.0.1. I have a backup of my old Contact and Up-to-Date files, and I support I can revert to the old software, but I've lost all confidence in the product and the company. I suspect that I'll just jump ship altogether. [alert admin]

OUCH!

Please see my follow up post. The information has not been lost, merely obscured by default.

Beware

Follow-up... The text information that I had been storing for my contacts in Now Contact, version 4.5.3, has NOT been lost in version 5.0.1. The window containing this information is merely hidden. The relevant text window can be exposed by dragging downward near the top of the visible window. I am relieved! I'll post another comment to correct the first.
