MacBornes 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Old game made new again.

I first ran into this game back in my Commodore64 days and loved it from the start. Over the years there has been a few releases of this game to the Mac platform. Some where nice some were.....well.....not very good. This game is one of the best I have seen and when comparing it back to the C64 version shows the best form of flattery is to beat the original and this game does just that. The added bonus of being able to customize the game and keeping the game freeware, like the C64 version was is top notch. This is the best version of the miles bornes genre and recommending it is a no brainer. A truly top notch product! [alert admin]

LeopardAssist 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Still A No Go

I was hoping that the new version would work on my 800Mhz eMac since I am only 67mhz shy of the limit but the Leopard install still knows I have only 800Mhz. Maybe the next version will fix this problem. [alert admin]

LeopardAssist 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Just what I was waiting for......and I am still wating!

I was hoping for a program like this to come out as I did not want to edit and reburn the Leopard DVD, reformat and use Target Disk Mode or Overclock my Mac. As promising as it sounded it just did not work. I followed the directions and it still reported my Mac as 800mhz and Leopard knew it. I even tried a few things that I thought might help. Nada, Leopard knew the correct speed everytime. I just I can wait to see if the next upgrade works or just bite the bullet and whip out the MacBook Core Duo and put the old Mac in target disk mode. Either that or whip out the canned air and soldering gun and have a go at those jumpers. [alert admin]

Virex 7 DAT 070829 (Mac OS X)

Who needs it!

I think if Mac users actually needed a decent virus checking program we would have one.....we don't. The only thing that comes close is ClamAVX. When I upgraded my eMac to tiger I thought I would not be able to use it as it was slow as a kid on the short yellow school bus. I found that Virex was eating most of my cycles. Once removed, my eMac running Tiger was as fast as it was running Panther. I had hoped that when it was renamed McAfee that it would run better. Alas that is all that happened, it was just renamed. My computer screeched to a halt once it was installed. I have only run into one Mac virus in my life and that was on OS 5 and it was a lame virus that did no harm. Demand something decent if you want AV for Mac. [alert admin]

EasyCrop 2.1.7 (Mac OS X)

Very Nice Program!

One might wonder why you would need a program to rotate and crop images when you have Apple's Preview. That is a good question and it you only need to crop and rotate pix every so often then preview will be all you need. However, at least give the program a try, you may find that it fills a need that you thought Preview would cover. It is easier to use and more powerful than Preview and it beats firing up Photoshop or another large graphic app just to resize and rotate. I do think the 11.95 is a little steep. It should be around 9.95 or so. Still if you find it useful 11.95 is a small price to pay for productivity. [alert admin]

EasyFrame 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Quicker than firing up photoshop!

For adding an artistic frame around a picture EasyFrames is hard to beat. Extensis have their product but it looks and acts clumsy compared to easyframe. It has just about the right amount of frames included with it and of course you can always add your own frames to it. For the price you really can't go wrong with the program. Even if you use it to spice up pictures you send to friends and family via email it is worth every penny! [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.2 (Mac OS X)

Works fine here!

I have had no problems but getting iTunes Plus is a little tricky. You must login to view your account, you can do this by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner, entering your password and choose view account. You can then choose iTunes Plus, say OK to the following EULA and you are golden. [alert admin]

TypeStyler 3.7.2 (Mac OS 9)

Good news either way

Those of us waiting most of this decade for TypeStyler to release an OS X version may not be waiting too much longer. Dave said to look for “something” to come out in March or April. We can only hope as the OS X version is working on being the vaporware product of the decade. However I have found a program that does about 90 percent of what TypeStyler does and not only is it OS X but a universal binary as well! The program is called Art Text and can be found at www.belightsoft.com. Since finding Art Text I no longer miss TypeStyler that much and it runs on my Intel Macbook. Dave you have two months and my money goes elsewhere and you get my vote for vaporware of the decade! [alert admin]

Fast DVD Copy 4.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Not that bad!

I have been using Fast DVD Copy for a long time now and I find it not only much easier than Mac The Ripper and a burning program but faster as well. If you are backing up a large number of copy protected DVD's this programs makes the job easy and painless. I can only fault the progam via Tech Support. Getting an answer from Velan for even the simplest of questions makes you want to use the DVD as a throwing star when you see them! It is like they check their email once a month wether they need to or not. [alert admin]

pzizz 2.1 (Mac OS X)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Who would you believe when you say “It is such great software it put me right to sleep”. Other than being overpriced this program is great and very inventive. I seldom have problems sleeping but even if I don’t this program make you feel better when you wake up. Exporting to the iPod is a great feature! [alert admin]

I tried it on my 800Mhz eMac with Superdrive model. The one with the Nvidia graphics card. Looking forward to trying the updated version to see if it works.

Not so Lame Users

I am a Microsoft Certified System Engineer and I think that Microsoft deserves a little bashing now and then. It is nice that they are including something that will let their content work on other platforms. Many of their content creation tools will make content that can only be viewed on a Windows machine running Internet Exploorer. One of the biggest uses of this was a complaint form on the Microsoft site for people using…

Unfortunate/improper Political Slant

I am a republican and I see nothing wrong with Democracy Player. I am all for free speech no matter who it saying whatever. That even goes for people who voice their dislike for something. I will not make a personal attack on someone for exercising their free speech rights because if you do then you are kind of killing your own point, don’t you think?
