For All iPods My A**

Apple should really call this “This Years Model Update”. If your iPod is over a year old it usually drops off the Apple radar for updates. It would not be bad if Apple actually fixed all the bugs in the older iPods software but they did not. I was told by Apple support that the battery indicator on my 3G iPod is useless and was told not to use it to judge when to charge it. I also received a letter from Apple saying my 3G iPod would automatically be entitled to a rebate in the class action suit and that I did not need to file. I think Apple screwed my twice on my 3G iPod. What is worse is that Apple actually makes Creative look pretty good as far as updates go as Creative actually provides customer service by adding new features to their older players. We have to sue Apple to get them to fix our older players. [alert admin]

DING! 1.04 (Mac OS X)

Spew!

This “program” is not much more than a pointer to the Southwest website. Clicking on one of the buttons takes you the Southwest website. The only thing the “program” really does is display announcements from southwest. The other thing it does is to install itself into your login items. So Ding is launched everytime you restart your computer or login to it. It does not ask your permission to do this. That said if you do fly southwest a lot and need to make reservations for cars and hotels as well then this program could cut down on a lot of click on their website. For frequent cheap flyers this “program” could be a really time saver when planning flights. [alert admin]

ImageMagick 6.2.6 (Mac OS X)

Great Program, If you can install it.

Sorry, I don’t want to offend the UNIX gods but a little documentation never hurt anyone. Sure I could install via fink or darwinports but I prefer to compile from source. It shows up about once or twice a year and I have to relearn how to install the damn thing all over again. I am not new to installing UNIX programs and have configured and installed many UNIX programs that might have never run on a Mac. If it does not follow the common configure, make, make install route a litte documentation would help. To those new to UNIX it would probably be better if you chose a better documented but maybe less useful program to learn the ropes. Otherwise top notch stuff as always. [alert admin]

Not for all iPods.

Still no update for 3g iPods, which despite Apple ignoring the fact, does not have perfect software. Still at version 2.3. I can't remember the last time it was updated but it has been at least a year or more. Class Action anyone? [alert admin]

Kaleidoscope 1.0 (Mac OS X)

This program must bite!

Not only are the charging 5 bucks for a screen saver that is a dime a dozen they come on here and review their own products. tammyinmo’s only reviews are of Family Friendly Software, LLC software. Three postings of programs, three 5 star reviews. Steer clear of this company! [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 7.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Works For Me

I have found toast to be rock solid and have never had a problem with it. As far as downloading the update I have had no problem there either. I think if you answered the questions correctly on their website then you should have access. [alert admin]

Moo 1.0 (Mac OS X)

I really like this but....

The sign of software that is not quite there. I really like this but..... 1. Kind of boring. Just two cows bouncing up and down, so fast even on my old 800mhz eMac that you can’t really see them moving in 3D. It would be nice if there were some parameters to change. Like bounce time, speed, direction, behavior, etc. 2. The installer, like others I think better packaging is in order. It should not need to drop files in the places it does. I love this screensaver, I just wish it would do more than it does. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

What is up with this?

Is this a test file? 10.4.3 already has 2.0.2. Plus this is an update you can’t download. It does not show up on Software Update. [alert admin]

iBeatTime 2.2 (Mac OS X)

Is this really needed

I can’t comment on the program as I have not tried it. I did use the swatch time utilities when they first started it but I found little reason to keep using them. There is already a time base the does not use zones and is very widely used. It is called UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). This uses the time at the Greenwich, England as the standard. Most shortwave radio stations use this to schedule their shows for listeners all over the globe. There are UTC menu clocks as well. Swatch watches were cool until people figured out they were paying 30 bucks for a 2 dollar watch. Beat time is the same thing, but less useful. [alert admin]

Yet Another useless update

A 36MB download for the iPod shuffle! While it is nice that Apple includes all the iPod updates in one program it would only make sense if they actually updated the older iPods. If you have a 3G iPod or below don’t expect Apple to ever another updater for you. 4G owners, you are next. I only recommend this if you need it. Otherwise go to Apples website and give them iPod feedback. Tell them you want a podcast main menu item on older iPods. Tell them to fix the 3G battery display, which apple tech support told me is useless. We have made Apple gods in the portable music player business. It is time they paid us back! [alert admin]

Don't waste your time!

I don’t think you read the window that said “This is not a registration code”. I have few problems with NTI. I bought Dragon Burn for 10 bucks when the released version 4. It is just as powerful as toast, which I have as well. It can write to multiple drives at one time via one application. With toast you have to have multiple toast applications to do the same thing. I got shadow for…

Hello, Too Lazy For A Read Me File

Well I may have been right but I was in a really bad mood when I wrote that. I had been working with computers all day and running into lots of programs and drivers without the proper read me or help files. This is not much of a problem for me but I help a lot of other people out and I often have to search high and low for information to forward to them.…

An error while updating

Yes, I did as well. It hits a file called box.id then errors out on this file. I have downloaded the file a couple of times and tried running the update several different times. No go.

Fine at home but useless at work

Uh, if they dropped the AFP protocol then why is it updated in the 10.4.1 release? Check Personal File Sharing, it still uses the AFP protocol. If you are having problems with it I suspect you are either doing something wrong or you need to do better maintenance on you machines. You might want to repair your disk, repair permissions and if all else fails trash the relevant plist files. I hope you are not with…

Is everyone here that stupid?

While Apple has made a one stop shop for iPod updates it has increased the file size for an updater that will only be of use to 1 group of people...right now that group of people are the owners of the 4G iPods. How many times does Apple have to rerelease the same old code to the 1G, 2G and 3G owners. I would rather see separate updates for each iPod generation. In this way…

price remark

Actually the price is not that bad. However products like Silverfast that do support my scanner, vuescan does not, are nearly the same price. I think Vuescan is an amazing program but it does have a tough run against the "biggies", even a price of 49.95 would spur more sales. 29.95 would have sway some pirates to buy it.

Why isn't this version listed on Linksys Download page?

I believe the decline really started when they were purchased by Cisco Systems. I had talked to them before and they seemed excited by the number of Mac users they had and were going to "officially" support them. Since the purchase they have been spotty at best as far as updates. Too bad...this router has been good...which is a good thing considering the company.

The download link took me to the Apple developer login page, which is correct, since you have to login with your developer password for this download. In other words the link is correct.
