NeoOffice 2.2.4 patch 1 (Mac OS X)
Not a replacement for Microsoft Office ![]()

The only reason I need to maintain Microsoft compatibility is so I can use Excel spreadsheets on my Treo. NeoOffice required formatting many of the cells manually, and even then there was some lost compatibility. The resulting files worked most of the time on the Treo, but occasionally the Treo would chock on the NeoOffice files. Sadly, I had to go back to MS Office. If you can tolerate some incompatibilities, then NeoOffice is fine. [alert admin]

CopyPaste Pro 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I have paid and registered CopyPaste. After finding something better and uninstalling CopyPaste, all my pop-up menus still have a "Launch CopyPaste" option. I've written the creators of this software for help in fixing the damaged menus, but they've been unresponsive. So unless you are SURE that you want to use this software forever, don't install it. PithHelmet 2.8.2 (Mac OS X)
I take it back. Pithhelmet and 3.1 will play nicely together if you follow the suggestions of others for running previous versions: This is what I did, and it worked for me. In the error message when firing up Safari, there is a version number. For me, it was 5525.13. I concluded I would need to tell SIMBL to accept this or a later version number. Find /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins Control-click on PithHelmet.bundle, then Show Package Contents Open the Info.plist file with TextEdit Find MaxBundleVersion and change it to 5550. Save. Open Resources/Info.plist Find MaxBundleVersion and change it to 5550. Save. Quit Safari and relaunch. [alert admin]

PithHelmet 2.8.2 (Mac OS X)
Safari 3.1 breaks Pithhelmet. Had I considered this possibility, I would have waited for a newer Pithhelmet version before installing the new Safari. [alert admin]

Smart Scroll 2.7.5 (Mac OS X)
Here's a problem with the current version that is HUGE for me: When running Smart Scroll, the scroll wheel on the Kensington Expert Mouse ceases to function in Coverflow. I'm going to try to revert back to the previous version. I have no idea if this phenomenon occurs with different devices or software. I'm going to try to go back to another version of Smart Scroll. SpamSieve 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)
As I said earlier, I would comment again after running the free version for one month. Again, I find Spamsieve's method of reporting accuracy to be weighted in its favor, so I am judging accuracy by the number of spam messages divided by the number of misidentified messages. My setup is such that all my email is filtered for spam on the server, so only the trickiest spams get through. The accuracy in the first couple weeks is unimpressive. However, by the forth week of testing, accuracy had improved to 96%. Setup is a no brainer. The only user input that is needed is when SS misidentifies a spam or legitimate email. Then it's just a key press, and you're done. In my opinion, Spamsieve is very good software. The $30 price tag is quite steep and I almost didn't buy the product, but in the end, I did. [alert admin]

SpamSieve 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)
I've been using the trial of Spamsieve for two weeks. The reported accuracy is not as it seems. It reports 98.6% accuracy, but if you look at the numbers, it's not so amazing. Out of 112 spam messages, it reported 25 as false negatives. That's only 67% accuracy. The skewed statistics reported by Spamsieve are due to the overwhelming majority of incoming email coming from whitelisted senders who are in my address book. I haven't tallied the stats for the Junk Mail filter that comes with Mail, but it's hard to imagine it being much different than the dismal 67% caught by Spamsieve. I'll continue to use this product for the duration of the trial. If the "REAL" statistics improve, I'll buy it and report it here. If it doesn't improve, I'll go back to the FREE and equally effective filter that comes with Mail. [alert admin]

ForgetMeNot 4.1 (Mac OS X)
Les7's is NOT a fix for Leopard
Unfortunately, there is no fix to make this software work with Leopard. Inquiries to the author have gone unanswered. [alert admin]

Default Folder X 4.0 (Mac OS X)
This software fills a gaping hole in OS X. Saving a series of files into a complex directory structure is no longer a ridiculous series of mouse clicks. This is an awesome time saver. [alert admin]

Running Leopard 10.5.1, Safari 3.0.4. Forgetmenot doesn't add the menu options like it supposed to. Furthermore, Forgetmenot prevents Pithhelmet from running, regardless of in what combination they are installed. I'll be eagerly awaiting version 4.2 [alert admin]

You didn't (and still don't, most likely) have it setup properly ![]()

Thank you for your concern. I read your earlier comment, Micheal. I didn't want to engage in argument until I gave your software a fair shake, so I did not reply. I'm responding now because I stand by my previous two evaluations. Other potential users can read both of our comments and judge for themselves whether or not to use your software. My earlier comments stated that the report provided…
