TomTom Home 2.7.2.598 (Mac OS X)
Getting better with each release ![]()

I've been using TomTom Home for about a couple of years. The earliest iterations were awful, but each succeeding one gets better. The present one, in common with its recent predecessors, is well thought out, works well and causes no problems. It took a long time but TomTom has finally produced a usable program, so congratulations to them. The program doesn't have the look and feel of a Mac program (I assume it's a port from the PC version) so it lacks a certain elegance, but otherwise it's fine. [alert admin]

I have been using Fission since v1.0 and continue to be impressed with it. My needs are relatively simple: I record and edit 2-hour talks for others in the classes we all attend. Fission does almost all I need and does it beautifully, its only lack being an inability to mark different areas of a talk to (briefly) remind myself of what was said at what point in time. This is, understandably, never going to be a high priority for the developers as it's such a specialised need, but the other day when I upgraded to v1.6.5 and found that the Fade Out command now crashed the app, Rogue Amoeba fixed the problem within 3 days of my reporting it and wrote to let me know. Kudos and thanks to them! [alert admin]

TomTom HOME 2.2.2.28 (Mac OS X)
VersionTracker link doesn't work but this does http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/application/home2latest/TomTomHOME2maclatest.dmg Downloads and installs fine on a MBPro running 10.4.11. Program works OK at long last! -- no more unexpected crashes -- the early versions were awful but now this software appears to have been redesigned and debugged and seems fit for purpose. About time. LeopardAssist 1.0 (Mac OS X)
It does what it says on the tin ![]()

This app does exactly what it promises: it fools the Leopard DVD into installing onto a sub-867MHz Mac and does it easily and smoothly. In my case it installed onto a dual 500MHz Gigabit Ethernet G4 with no trouble or difficulty during or after installation. Running Leopard on a below-spec Mac may or may not be wise, but that is a separate (and arguably irrelevant) issue when reviewing whether or not this app successfully does what it claims -- which it certainly does. I therefore have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. [alert admin]

rspress2005 -- you ask what I did to get Leopard Assist to install Leopard on my Gigabit Ethernet G4 tower... Well, first I mounted the Leopard install DVD so that its volume icon was visible on the Desktop and hence available (but did not launch any installer from it or in any way activate it). Next I ran the Leopard Assist app from the same G4 Desktop following all the default options and using no…
