Keyspan USB adapters 2.3 (Mac OS X)

Avoiding the Big Crash

IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM: My Mac kept crashing about 5/6th of the way into using this upgrade. And I don't just mean that the installer crashed but that the whole computer crashed. HOW YOU MIGHT WORK AROUND THIS PROBLEM: Reboot your Mac. The instant the screen clears and the boot process begins, press down and hold down the "shift" key. I'm not certain when it is 'safe' to let up on the "shift" key so you might just want to continue holding it down until your Mac is 100% up and running. Now run the Keyspan installer. WHY IT WORKS: I'm not sure. Someone who knows more about drivers will probably know but I'm guessing that because a "shift" boot causes the Mac to skip loading 3rd party software and drivers (presumably this includes the Keyspan drivers), the installer is able to cover the old drivers with the new versions without the added roadblock of having the older drivers running at the time. But that's just a guess. Good luck! [alert admin]

iShowU 1.11 (Mac OS X)

It's NOT free!

This is a shareware product rather than a freeware product. That's fine and dandy, of course, but I wish that the VersionTracker license info emphasized the 'shareware' aspect of the software rather than the 'beta' aspect. Feel free to disagree. [alert admin]

MorphX 2.9 (Mac OS X)

Great program! But I'm getting an error on latest versions.

MorphX is a pretty nifty utility. Especially considering it's free! However, I'm getting the following error milliseconds after the program launches. Link (dyld) error: dyld: /Applications/MorphX.app/Contents/MacOS/MorphX can't open library: /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Quartz (No such file or directory, errno = 2) Thanks! Captain FTP 4.2 (Mac OS X)

Frequent "Paid" Updates Required!

I've observed that CaptainFTP seems to have a faster "paid update" schedule than any other software I license (commercial or shareware). For example, it wasn't long ago that CaptainFTP v4 was released (requiring an "upgrade tax"), and just today v4.2 hit the nets requiring yet another upgrade payment. Something to consider. Having written this, however, I have no problem telling you that CaptainFTP is a well written software product. Easily among the best FTP client programs on any platform. -Rick [alert admin]

GmailStatus 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't want to log into my Gmail account

Even with the latest (1.0.4) version I am having the same problem as someone did last year in that I can't log into my Gmail account. The pop in tooltip text reports... "Could not log in to Gmail. Wrong username or password?" I've tried carefully re-entering into GmailStatus both my username and password many times with no luck. I've even tried trashing the GmailStatus preferences file (while GmailStatus wasn't running) and the "keychain" password entry, and then re-entering the information. Still no joy. The only thing I can think of is that after my first install of GmailStatus I decided that I didn't like my Gmail user ID so I created a new account (different user ID but the same password) and then killed my original Gmail account. I have no trouble getting into my new account using the browser but with GmailStatus access is no go. Does GmailStatus store account information somewhere in addition to the single prefs file and the keychain? And if so, where can I find it so I can clear it? I look forward to being able to use GmailStatus. It seems like a handy tool to have. Thanks! -Rick [alert admin]
