Apple MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Firmware update & Sticky Cursor ![]()

Installed the update with no problems . I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I do believe this update has cured the "sticky cursor" problem that a lot of MacBook owners have experienced. After nine months of playing hide and seek on the desktop, my cursor is now sufficiently confident to show up when required. Major improvement Apple. [alert admin]

WeatherPop Advance 2.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Bought WPA in 2002.. didn't work very well, so I shelved it. I have tried the updates as they have come out and kept on shelving it. Version 2.6.1 still leaves a lot to be desired. To start, it would be helpful to include a ReadMe that tells you to "Hold down the Command key when you double click if it won't load the first time". Why allow you to choose a 5 day forecast and then have it display three days with one missing in between? Why list weather sources in the preferences but not let you choose ... you can list them in any order you like, but the app still chooses. And last but and most important, it has never got the weather right... and I'm talking about the current weather outside my window. If it can't get it right for today, why should I believe the forecast for tomorrow? Maybe another 5 years of development will help. As of now 2 stars. [alert admin]

FruitMenu 3.6.3 (Mac OS X)
One of the most useful aspects of Fruit Menu is the ability to assign hot keys to menu items. I use this feature much more frequently than the Menu itself. In past issues of FM, if you replaced an application with a newer version, you were able to continue using the existing hot key combination. In recent versions of FM, when you try to do this, invariably FM replies that that key combination is already in use. Removing an application from the menu does not seem to delete the associated key combination from the FM hot key database. This is enormously frustrating as I have spent years getting used to a particular set of hot keys. This is a serious flaw in an otherwise excellent piece of software. I have emailed Unsanity on this but have so far had no reply. Anyone know where FM stores it's list of hot keys? [alert admin]

eyeHide 1.9.2 (Mac OS X)
As suggested by lP15, the OS X Disk Utility lets you set up an encrypted Disk Image that gives you a simple, straightforward and rock-solid solution. No disappearing files. Works for me. [alert admin]

Apple Broadband Tuner 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I Installed Broadband Tuner when I already had Broadband Optimizer running. Big mistake. If you want to try BBT, take the BBO files out of your /Library/StartupItems folder first. [alert admin]

iOrganize 6.1.3 (Mac OS X)
I commented earlier that <"Search" only locates keywords that are in Notes within the Category being searched. It does not find keywords that appear in the names of Sub-Categories, or that appear in Notes within Sub-Categories.> I was wrong. I think that the Preferences file was corrupted. After I trashed the file, the Search function worked as it should. It can operate on a single category, or on all notes. That said, Iappologize for my mistake and revise my rating to an unqualified 5 Star. [alert admin]

iOrganize 6.1.2 (Mac OS X)
I have used iOrganize extensively for a long time and I would not want to be without it. The introduction of sub-categories in Version 6 has made it even more useful. Allowing you to group similar logs into a single document should make searching for keywords much more effective. However, the search function does not work very well. "Search" only locates keywords that are in Notes within the Category being searched. It does not find keywords that appear in the names of Sub-Categories, or that appear in Notes within Sub-Categories. Really useless. I hope that this will be fixed in a subsequent version. Two other things that would really help... Being able to rearrange Notes or Categories in random order by dragging and dropping. Being be able to promote or demote categories as in Mac OS Mail. iOrganize 6.0 (Mac OS X)
I had the same problem last night. Download link provided version 5.5.4 which is useless for exporting notes to 6.0. Checked the link again this morning and presto... 5.5.5 is now available. [alert admin]

iBank 1.5 (Mac OS X)
The idea is good. Straightforward and reasonably versatile. However it needs work. After ten minutes of playing with an account, I encountered enough to make me want to hold on to my money for a later version. A few examples: When you select a New Group or Item in the Categories window ... The name field should come up ready for typing. You should not have to double click to make it receptive. Command N should automatically produce a new group or item depending on what is selected. If the transaction pane is active, it should automatically enter today's date in editable format. The drop menu for selecting a category does not work if you use the cursor to select the category. However it does work if you use the down arrow and then press enter. Not a good begining. I am running OS 10.4.2 on a 14" G4 iBook 768 Meg RAM. [alert admin]

iOrganize 5.5.4 (Mac OS X)
I have used iOrganize from day one and love it. Currently there are two main deficiencies. iOrganize is not compatible with Apple's Spotlight. Spotlight will find the Notepad, but nothing inside. This means that if you want to search in several notepads, you have to open each one individually and use iOptimize's search tool. I have many notepads and it would be great to be able to use Spotlight to search them all at the same time. Now if you could set up folders in the Notes column (second deficiency) you would not need to have more than one notepad, and you could use the built-in search function. I hope that the Developer provides one of these options in the next version. [alert admin]

TM does back up every hour, otherwise it would be useless. It keeps hourly backups for today and 24 hourly backups for yesterday. At the end of the next 24 hours, it gets rid of 23 oldest hourly backups and keeps only one. It keeps 1 backup for each day of the previous two months. It keeps weekly backups for the months prior to that. In other words, if you have been using…

Just below the "Live Demo" on the developers website there is a "Warning" panel. Under "Known NOT To Work" they list OS10.5. Kinda dumb issuing a widget at this time that is not supported by 10.5. However... Peter

Some folk keep their dock on the left edge of the screen. Offseting the window to the right allows for that.
