BlackBerry Desktop Manager 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Auto Update to Unusable Status ![]()

Version 1.0.0 worked fine. It did sync Contacts and Calendar, sadly it does not allow syncing of Stickies for Notes. Oh well. Then, auto update to 1.0.1. Now, after Calendar syncs, it gets part way through Contacts, then aborts the Contact sync and moves on. Not that helpful. Because I am stuck with Verizon, I cannot get an iPhone. Rest assured I will be looking closely at Droid and HTC Touch Pro 2 when they come out shortly to see if I can sync with my Mac. RIM obviously does not care. [alert admin]

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Version 1.0.0 worked fine. Version 1.0.1 auto updated and now when I sync, I get through calendar, then part way through contacts and the sync aborts contact and moves on. I have had even less luck with MissingSync and PocketMac software. I would switch to an iPhone in a heartbeat, but I am stuck with Verizon. I will look hard at the new Droid and the HTC Touch Pro 2, if either sync, RIM can take their Touch and do what they like with it. [alert admin]

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I am running a MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard, all the latest software versions. I have a Blackberry Storm. Current Verizon Software. Installation was flawless and equally useless. The software takes about 15 minutes to cycle. End result Blackberry wiped clean of contact and calendars. At least it did not harm my Mac. [alert admin]

Spanning Sync 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Did not work all that well. The big problem came when I wanted to remove it. The uninstaller leaves the Spanning Sync icon in the system preferences. When you click on it, you get Preferences Error: "You cannot open Spanning Sync preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac". Searching on Spanning finds no files to delete. And the final straw, there is no email link to ask questions at the site. Just useless FAQs. [alert admin]

Retrospect 8.0b1 (Mac OS X)
I gave a shot at using the beta, with no joy. I tried for about an hour to use it and could not figure it out. Hopefully the real thing will come with some simple instructions. We have been using Retrospect for many years. This interface is so different and non-intuitive that I cannot figure out how to use it. Perhaps it is because I am old. On the other hand, I have had no problems using the previous versions. I will be happy to upgrade, the additional features seem great. Wish I had some idea what to do with it. I feel much like a pig looking at a computer. It is obviously something and I wonder what it is. [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0.20 (Mac OS X)
PocketMac is Too Little, Too Late
Version Three worked pretty well, Version Four looked nice, but was not reliable. After SIX MONTHS, MarkSpace stepped in with the software that works - MissingSync. Now, perhaps the PocketMac software will work. I will never know, I have switched to MissingSync which works flawlessly. [alert admin]

iClock 2.2 (Mac OS X)
IClock is one of my favorites. HOWEVER, when you install iCalculator, it activates by COMMAND C, which should only be used for copying. This is a major issue. There seems to be no documentation on turning iCalculator off. [alert admin]

Apple Security Update 2004-08-09 (Mac OS X)
On both my Pismo and a G-4 tower, after installing the "Security Update" my Mail program goes into the Spinning Beachball of Death when I open it. The only known solution was to discard ALL my mailboxes. Nice! [alert admin]

Given the comment earlier about syncing twice and it would work, I decided to sync relentlessly. After the six time it worked. Seems to work okay now. RELIEF!

Not just you. I get "Building page 'blog'" then it builds two entries, then error message. Wish it worked. Wish there was someone to tell.
