Plain Clip Plug 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Finally! What a useful idea.

I copy and paste a great deal into emails and documents. Pasting the style is a useful feature, but many times I don't want the text formatting from the original to be included when I paste. So I can either a) paste it into my document and then spend time selecting all the right font, color, and size options, or b) open a blank text-only document in TextEdit, paste, and re-copy the unformatted text which is ready to be pasted into my document. With Plain Clip, not anymore. It strips all the text formatting for text *already in the clipboard,* which means that you don't have to configure anything, you don't have to change any settings, and you don't have to do a lot of legwork. Simply copy, launch Plain Clip (I use Quicksilver for the task), and voila: unformatted text that is ready to paste! Easy to use. Imminently useful. Small download. And free. What's not to like? SMS Sender 2.20 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Looks promising, but concerned about spam

Hey, this *sounds* like a great product, and I'm glad to know from one comment that it works flawlessly. But I'm going to agree that it's unnerving that a) the company page looks like an auction site rather than a genuine developer, b) the product name after downloading is "SMS PriceJustice" instead of the proclaimed title of the product ("SMS Sender - Mac OS X" in this version), and c) the reports of a progress bar not telling what it's doing or any of that. It sounds to me like this is a quick way to garner some valid email addresses, and until these concerns are addressed I'm not going to launch the program. Too bad, too, 'cause I'd sure make use of this program. Developer, now would be a good time to address these concerns. [alert admin]

MacSword 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Fast and useful

First, Re: AAPL Shareholder, you do realize you can put "Romans 9-11" and it will display more than one chapter at a time, right?

This is what I'm talking about. It's an excellent piece of software that loads Scripture remarkably fast.

Problems, though, in that I'd like to search by text (not just passage, and I'm sure this is being worked on by the Sword guys), as well as I'm having problems displaying any "book" modules. I've got Calvin's Institutes and Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress and I can't get either to turn up. I've even renamed the folder with a .swd extension to no avail. I'd really like to get access to these (not to mention the NASB and the ESV, but that's forthcoming). [alert admin]

FinderScape 1.01 (Mac OS X)

Fun, but $15?

It's cute and it's fun for about five minutes, it really is. Then you risk getting motion-sickness if you use it for much longer and you see that there's no way you'd ever regularly use this app. It'd be helpful if you could look UP and DOWN, because in a folder with 112 pictures, I had to move up on an incline to view previews of the picture with any degree of a centered perspective. I'm not sure why the developer thinks any user would want to pay more for an app they'll never use except for kicks than a useful Unsanity haxie for $10, or use the $15 as a down-payment on the egregiously expensive (yet admittedly useful) Path Finder. OSXnews 0.3a (Mac OS X)

Looks promising, but doesn't work yet.

Excellent idea, using the Safari rendering engine for newsgroup. However, I also experienced the crash when trying to access my newsgroups. If this could be fixed, I think this could be pretty cool for light-weight newsgroup browsing and posting. [alert admin]

Epson Perfection 1.28A (Mac OS X)

Echoing 636u complaints

I'm simply echoing the complaints from those who are continually disappointed to see the 636u, an otherwise great scanner, ignored over and over again when another company has evidently found a way to do it. I realize Epson does not have to support this device, but it didn't have to support the devices it currently works with. 636u support, please, Epson. [alert admin]

Lame 3.93 (Mac OS X)

"Lame Undefined Reference"?

I too am getting the error message in Panther (10.3.1). Can anyone help me out, here? This is driving me crazy. Also, VT needs to update the link of the binary by adding "&version=3.93" to the end of the file link. [alert admin]

HappyWife 1.0 (Mac OS X)

It's the "little things" that count...

I think this is a nifty idea. I can't help but smile. It's cleverly done and the type of programmer who would take the time to do something special like this for his wife (and then share the idea with anyone else for free) is just plain cool in my books.

It's just mildly confusing to set up, but I quickly figured it out. The stroke of genius, from a romantic guy's perspective, is the ability to run it hidden so the pop-up message occurs without her knowledge or looking at the Dock to see a heart icon. Something that would be nice is the ability to use more than one title and button string.

Will it replace other forms of love? Nope. But it's an extra "little" thing that you can do to show someone you are still crazy about him or her. Anyone who would go so far to say this is worthless is either single, has a lousy marriage, or thinks his marriage is going great but he's deceiving himself. Praising someone is the consummation of prizing someone. Good work and it's neat to see your delight in Karen spill over into praise like this. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Command & Conquer...

LOL, this game cracks me up. Totally mindless, using lots of Command & Conquer graphics/sound. I enjoyed it, anyway.

I'd love to see a genuine C&C patch, though. It works in Classic, so I'll live. [alert admin]

iAlarm 1.5 (Mac OS X)

I'm going to…

have to echo the frustrating aspect of the iTunes playlist. I created an AppleScript that will simply play iTunes wherever I put it, but the past two mornings it has not woken me up at the time I set, regardless of the "Test" working. I wish I had my older version. [alert admin]

Looks great, will give it a try!

I know Aaron Steele personally (he's a fellow moderator at MacAddict and a friend), and I can say with 100% accuracy this app had <b>ZERO</b> to do with it. It's funny, when using my iBook in Firewire Target Disk Mode, I can shut the lid and it continues to operate, hard drive spinning and all. Makes me wonder....
