iPod.iTunes 4.1.4 (Mac OS X)
I had used version 2 and it worked great when I lost a hard drive. I really didn't use it for regular syncing though. Of course years later I had another need for it. I also had lost my registration number. The developer responded with my registration information in less than 4 hours on a Sunday. That is what I call great support from a product that does its job very well. [alert admin]

LANrev 4.6 (Mac OS X)
If you need to do large scale support/deployments, you really need to have a look at this software. The simple fact that you can create custom fields for what ever you want that is generated with a shell script is an amazing feature. Support is amazing, program is simple and powerful. Sometimes the documentation could be better. Giving a total walk through would be nice. [alert admin]

For such an early stage of development, this program seems great. It handled a vacation to Scandinavia easily. Performance was a bit sluggish, and there could have been a few more features, but this was a surprisingly good start. With a few more features, this could easily be one of my favorites. Prior to that, it has to have a means to share a vacation via web. [alert admin]

RDC Menu 1.03 (Mac OS X)
This is essential for any Windows administrator, I just wish that you could create RDC settings and launch them quickly. I connect to at least 5 servers, and it would be much better to double click the settings and have them launch using RDC menu or select them from a menu under RDC. [alert admin]

fseventer 1.6 (Mac OS X)
This would have save me so much time had I known about it. If you use an anti-virus program or spotlight or anything else that indexes your system as you are doing stuff, this is a must have as a system administrator. If you have ever wondered why word couldn't save or why a disk could not be ejected, or why meetingmaker doesn't always load correctly, this can help track down which files are the potential problem files. Apple Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Mac OS X)
10.4.3 appears to break Cisco VPN Client - 4.7.00.0510. Rather a bummer, as it is needed for work. [alert admin]

Radar In Motion 1.3 (Mac OS X)
So far this widget is one of my favorites. As a biker I like to know what I am in for. I actually use the saved images as my desktop as well and then have them change frequently. This part is a bit silly, but I like that I can do it. [alert admin]

Cubed3W 0.1 (Mac OS X)
It worked great and had no issues with the websites that I fed in, but it kind of gave me a headache after a couple of seconds. Not all the useful, but looked cool for a bit. [alert admin]

Sophos Anti-Virus 3.93 (Mac OS X)
First, just because there are no viruses for Mac OS X does not mean that no one should run this. For a home machine, it is a bit silly. For a business that receives files from everywhere, you should have a good virus software. Sophos is so much nicer than Norton or Virex that I hope they continue to support the Mac platform. I only wish that people would use the commentary option instead of rating the software when they want to make dumb comments. It is good software than can help a Mac user collect a ton of PC viruses and be thankful that they do not affect their machine. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 7.0.0 (Mac OS X)
I simply installed it and launched it. This is the first version that I could consider using if I get forms. It launched in 3 seconds. That is about one tenth the launch time that Reader 6 took. A search in a 676 page document took 50 seconds vs Previews 35 seconds though. The biggest bonus is that Reader 7 now can view inside of the browser very smoothly. Finally reader is not crap again. Although this is a quick review, it has opened everything flawlessly so far. [alert admin]

Insulted by their upgrade price ![]()

I purchased Parallels 1 for about $80. It was worthless. Parallels 2 upgrade for about $40 (ok at best). Parallels 3 upgrade for about $40 (worked). Side graded to VMWare 1 (ok at best) for $20. Upgraded to VMWare 2 for free and never thought about the upgrade to Parallels 4 for $50. I will pay for the upgrade to VMWare 3 as I have barely given them money compared to Parallels.

1 day trying to get an Adobe install that does not suck. I have no choice but to repackage everything they do. Hello, Adobe, all users are not admins. People install in large areas. Adobe's installers have been and continue to be horrible. Yes, I have provided this feedback to them outside of version tracker.

In my opinion, this is only designed for games. Most other things do not need 3D acceleration and can therefore be used with Parallels. It is always the fastest gaming machine in the group of laptops I play with.

Sadly, if you had gone with any other product (netOctopus, FileWave, etc.) you would have spent a ton of money on maintenance that would have exceeded the purchase of ARD again. I am actually about to look at ARD for the cost savings over other solutions (and no VNC is not what I need).

I was able to fix it by uninstalling and re-installing the VPN client. The odd thing is that it has affected 2 different machines that are setup quite differently. Glad it works, but you may need to do some work to get it working.

7.2.1 does not do on access scanning. You have to physically run the application. It is about as effective as creating an AppleScript that you can double click on and have it display a dialog saying no viruses were found.

You know it also doesn't make my breakfast for me. Why not rate it on what it says it will do. On the website it even mentions USB scanners that are not true USB scanners. Gee, maybe that is yours.

This would depend as they are generally different products. I you have 100 Macs that you need to connect to 1-2 PC's then using PC MacLAN seems logical. If you have a large PC network that you would like to integrate a few Macs, then getting Dave seems logical. It really depends on which way you are going to be going mostly.
