iDistract 1.0 (Mac OS X)

What a Hoot!

Ok. These guys may not know how to write about their product -- but they sure know how to make it fun! So get this. What it actually does is let you go to any site on the Internets and download any (Yes, I said any) Flash animation, video, game or anything else Flash. Just enter the URL and Voila, it's now playing in the program. Amazing. See a game you like, and want to keep it for your very own? Download it with this great little app, play it at your leisure. Make a whole collection of your favorite games! Or download video's from YouTube and save them to your HD, or play them straight in iDistract. Forget all those conversion sites -- this thing does it all! If there was ever a better way to utterly waste most of your work day playing games and watching Hot for Obama videos, I don't know what it is. Bloody amazing more people aren't clamoring for this app! [alert admin]

Peek-a-Boo 2.6 (Mac OS X)

Coolest Mac Utility Ever

I'm sorry, I used to use this product back in the OS 9 days almost daily. I've now tried it again for OS X. I didn't see any problem with being nagged for payment. And this is such a cool app. The throbber looks great, and of course the ability to rein in CPU hogs like Photoshop is just amazing. Thanks for the great work! [alert admin]

Skype 1.4.0.49 (Mac OS X)

Incompatible with 10.3.7

as far as I can see. Although the System Requirements say 10.3.7 or higher, I could not get the app to even open under 10.3.7. [alert admin]

iKey 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Unresponsive Customer Service

There's been a known issue with typing text assigned to particular F-Keys since the release of 10.4 and although emails have been sent for months, no one has ever responded. The issue was posted at their forum, they didn't respond there, and the issue hasn't been fixed even in this new release. I would make sure it works -- and that you never need any support before paying them a dime. [alert admin]

ASM 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

One of the Indispensable Utilities...

Anyone on 10.x not using ASM is missing the full speed and flexibility of app-switching that ought to be built-in to the OS. This app, for those who've somehow missed hearing about it, has been written up for it's elegance and usefulness just about everywhere. Whenever I pass this onto friends or clients, they can't stop thanking me. If this isn't worth $15 -- what is. [alert admin]

Drumbeat X2 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

A Response...

Hi there-- As the developer of DB, I'm extremely concerned about the comments here. First, we pride ourselves more than anything on our Support, and hear constantly from folks that that's the primary reason they bought the program to begin with. If you had a bad experience, we will do all that we can to correct whatever the problem may be, and I certainly apologize if we did anything less than our best to help. As far as 1.6.6, that was supposed to only be a replacement for 1.6.5 to enable those who didn't want to upgrade to be able to keep using their old version. We have a forced update procedure to protect servers, and 1.6.6 shuts that down so you aren't forced to upgrade. It was never meant to fix any issues in 1.6.5. And since it was out for no more than a few minutes -- I doubt you could have given it, or 2.0 for that matter, much of a fair test. As to the French, that has been corrected. Sorry, but we released 22 localized versions yesterday, so -- it happens. I would like to comment on one other thing. There is absolutely no doubt that DB is slow. The reason for this is that we're doing fantastically more things at once -- more server connections, more search results, and more of everything else, than anyone else out there. We decided it was better to have an app that did everything we wanted it to do, than be particularly fast at doing it. So yes, to see what it can do, you have to give it some time. But our tests are real. Myself, I'd rather be able to get 25,000 results then get 300 quickly and that's it. If all you're looking for are the most popular files out there that everyone already has, DB may not be your app. But if you're looking for all the stuff you can't possible find anywhere else -- that's why we build DB. dName-it 2.2.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Fantastic

Don't know what trance is talking about, but I've tried alot of Batch Renamers, and this thing works great! Tons of features and every variation you can think of to rename your files, full previewing, and a final warning before it executes -- which it does to perfection. BUT...READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST! The only thing someone using this for the first time will notice is that it *not* as intuitive as it should be. But once you know how to use it, there's nothing better. Oh, one other thing -- the name definitely isn't the best for this excellent product. [alert admin]

ScreenShot Plus 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Works great!

I've got Panther it worked like a charm. I work with Photoshop and Apple's Screenshots all day. What a pain! First you have to shoot it, then open it in Preview, then take another screen shot with Grab (because that stupid utility greys out your windows when you try to use that!) just to get it all in the proper format. Apple should really go back to the drawing board on that one. But this utility has it right. One click and i can save my screenshot in any format. Too bad I didn't have this for the last two months of work! [alert admin]

ASM 2.1b5 (Mac OS X)

Nothing beats ASM.

How many times can you say "indispensible"? Let's put it this way... I wouldn't even want to have Panther without it. Too bad it's not part of the OS -- because every Mac user should have ASM. Pity for those of you who live by Dock alone. [alert admin]
