NoteShare 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Another 80 bucks just to share the crayon? ![]()

The is the most outrageous piece of bait-and-switch I have seen in a long time. NoteShare is as buggy and unstable as NoteTaker was, only it costs $80 more. I think Mr. Hill's analysis was right on the money. Seems like the only reason they announced this product and put NoteTaker on life support was to squeeze more money out of customers. I say no thanks. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. [alert admin]

Regarding ghostlexx's rather glib comment I would just say this: Before they even ANNOUNCED their price drop, Circus Ponies contacted each of their customers personally who had purchased at $99.95 and offered us a choice of (a) a refund of the price difference (in cash) or (b) free upgrades for life. As far as I know, most customers opted for the free upgrades for life option because it was such a generous offer. After all, a great product can only get better! Still, I was impressed that they didn't even hesitate to take the best possible care of their early customers first. That is what *I* look for in a vendor, and I can't even imagine what better value or customer service one could hope for these days. JD Powers should take note of how well this small company takes care of its customers!!! [alert admin]

Circus Ponies Notebook 1.0 (Mac OS X)
terrific! I am already clipping stuff out of Mail and Safari into my notebooks. I really like the "media frames" (they let you make cool-looking scrapbooks with comments). None of the cheaper competitors has the media capture stuff. I just plugged in my digital camera and poof! NoteBook imported all my pictures, plus a video clip. I'm not sure what MacHead got so confused about. I found the online help to be very easy to understand and friendly. $99 is cheap for this much functionality, plus they have that competitive upgrade thingie going right now for only $10, if you happen to have already bought something else. But frankly, I believe you get what you pay for. [alert admin]

I read on the Circus Ponies discussion boards that MacFan magazine in the Netherlands has published the first editorial comparison of NoteBook and NoteTaker side by side. There's a link to the article and the scorecard on the Circus Ponies News page, for anybody interested in an objective viewpoint.
