Mozilla Firebird 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Previous poster is incorrect

"Monickels", you are dead wrong with all your listed missing functions. I just tested all the features you stated were missing. 1. Firebird 0.7 DOES fully utilize contextual menus with all the features you stated were missing. 2. Pop-ups are blocked with no error messages. 3. Multiple tab groups are supported. 4. There is no need to delete the Bookmarks Toolbar folder...just delete its contents with a couple shift-clicks. This is a good feature that prevents accidental deletion of the special Bookmarks Toolbar folder (which has happened to me in other browsers, in which the folder could not be re-created.) I find Firebird 0.7 to be an excellent browser and I am now testing it as my default to compare to Safari. Utilizing Safari Bookmark Exporter and Safari Enhancer has allowed me to send my bookmarks back and forth with ease between the two browsers. Both browsers compare favorably, each with a few features that the other lacks. Safari can synchronize its bookmarks via iSync/.Mac, so if you work on multiple Macs, you can conveniently access all your bookmarks with ease. Safari has built-in Spell checking (for when you post comments to sites such as VersionTracker.) Safari supports the Services menu, allowing extensibility. Firebird's plug-in architecture is terrific. The SmoothWheel extension makes scrolling through webpages much easier on the eyes...no more abrupt scrolling movements. Firebird renders more websites correctly---including some pages on VT that Safari will choke on. Such as http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8933 [alert admin]

Excellent Browser

Tied with Safari for my favorite browser. Both are extremely fast and blow Internet Explorer out of the water. Internet Explorer is the only application that regularly crashes on OS X; not so with Safari or Mozilla which are much more stable. Mozilla seems to cache content much better than Safari leading to better speed gains for certain sites. The default appearance is fairly ugly in Mozilla---the modern theme is a bit better, but the nicest theme is Pinstripe which gives Mozilla a clean Aqua appearance. A new version of Pinstripe which will be compatible with Mozilla 1.5b will be released shortly at: http://www.kmgerich.com/pinstripe/pinstripe.html [alert admin]

Unreal Tournament 2003 1.0b (Mac OS X)

Awesome graphics...

Incredible texture mapping and detail...lightening fast play, but it requires a good graphics card capable of running all those 3D textures. Works great on a G4 1.25Ghz / 1 gig RAM / Radeon 8500, but I'm not even thinking of trying it on an old, first gen Titanium PowerBook. Read the system requirements. Minumum =700MHz G4, 256MB RAM, 32MB Radeon/GeForce Video Card, 3GB hard disk space. A good reason to upgrade your Mac, if you like gaming. [alert admin]

Macromedia Flash MX 6.0 (Mac OS 9)

Too Bad...

As powerful as the Flash technology is, this is about the worst program I have ever used on the Mac. There are HUGE bugs that Macromedia has ignored ever since MX was released. Copying and pasting several frames can send your machine into the spinning beach ball of death...even on 1 GHz+ machines with maxed out RAM. Switching to other apps while Flash MX is thinking will cause all your palettes/windows to disappear and force you to reload them...the work area window frequently loses "focus" so that if you try to select it, it remains inactive and in the background. Flash MX feels like an early beta. It's a terrible shame that Macromedia chose to release this software as is...very shoddy. Even worse, they have had more than a year to release updates to address these problems, but have ignored their Mac user base. Please, everyone suffering similar problems, please write to Macromedia and tell them to fix things. http://www.macromedia.com/support/email/complimentary/main.cgi [alert admin]

BlueNotes 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Very Handy.

Nice little app...but it suffers from the "application has suddenly quit" error dialog upon quitting. [alert admin]

httpmail plugin 1.20 (Mac OS X)

Hmm...don't know if…

it was Hotmail servers or OSXv.2.5, but httpmail is no longer working...I'm getting the same "Connection Failure Could not connect to 'Hotmail' Critical Error." It has worked great in the past. Thanks for your hard work Daniel, hope you can fix this latest problem. [alert admin]

Gordon Flash 1.1.7 (Mac OS X)

A much needed…

tool for Mac users. Unfortunately, my experience with the demo proved it to be very buggy. Opened windows are sometimes not selectable, or just don't appear. The timeline doesn't show up unless you try to save the doc you just opened. The app is unresponsive to clicks half the time...most notably when trying to hit that save button. Etc., etc. Too bad. I would have bought it if it delivered on its promises. I hope the developer fixes the bugs and gets it to work. (I am running OS X v.10.2.4 if this helps the developer debug this app.) [alert admin]

For those with Palm sync trouble....

"To synchronize the information on your computer and a Palm OS device, you need to install the iSync 1.1 Palm Conduit and have Palm Desktop 4.0 (or later) installed. If you currently sync a Palm OS device with a previous version of iSync, installing iSync 1.1 will break this older Palm OS conduit. To continue syncing your Palm OS device, you will need to reinstall the latest version of the iSync Palm Conduit which…
