FileMaker Pro 7.0v2 (Mac OS X)

Okay

Very good & quick, but a lot of detail overlooked. Weird stuff too; can't type certain characters in certain fields, in the Define Fields I select "Number" but it shows "Text" (even though it does indeed use numbers in usage), etc. Also, as mentioned, still no scroll-wheel support. Honestly, wish I would have stuck with v6 and waited for a big upgrade. [alert admin]

Apple DVD Player 4.0 (Mac OS X)

Stinks

Okay, maybe that's too serious. But it's buggy, it locks up my system (or contributes to it) regularly. I'm not bashing Apple here, not even blaming them per se; maybe it's a third-party item I have that's causing the conflict. All I know is that every once in a while, while I'm playing a DVD in the background as I work, my whole system locks up. Yesterday's lock-up hosed me to where I'm rebuilding from a backup. Maybe I should just get a little TV set. :) [alert admin]

Not Compatible with Wireless Optical Desktop Pro...

...at least not for me. Specialty keys (My Documents, My Pictures, etc.) will not work for me under v5 of this software; nor will they after reverting back to v3.1. What's worse -- for me, at least; YMMV -- under v5 my keyboard regularly dropped keystrokes. Reverting back to v3.1 corrected this. Considering this was last updated September 2003, here's hoping a fix is in the works for the software and the $100 keyboard I just bought. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 3.5 (Mac OS X)

No problems here

FWIW, I've been using this program for a few versions with zero problems. [alert admin]

DYMO LabelWriter 6.1 (Mac OS X)

v6.1 now working perfectly for me

Just downloaded 6.1 directly from Dymo and it works great!

Two tricks that helped me get past the problems I was having, and others have noted, involving the installation (and the apparent non-installation issues of running the installer but nothing changing):

(1) delete the Preferences plist file before running the installer, and empty the trash; and

(2), uninstall the program using the installer (you'll get the typical "files were in use..." message) and then run the installer.

I can now use 10.3's own Address Book directly from Dymo Label! This is the functionality I was really hoping for in this program. (To do this, simply select "Use Mac Address Book" under "Address Book" in the menu, and be sure "View Address Book" is checked in the same menu. Perfect!)

I'm now back to recommending this device and its software to clients and friends.

Business Card Composer 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Great App, Slow Printing

This is a really nice little app. I used to do all my biz cards in an <i>Adobe InDesign</i> template, which was nice but cumbersome. BCC handles everything I did in InDesign, from what I can see, and very nicely too. I disagree with other reviewers regarding ugly designs; the templates are pretty nice for the casual user, and if you don't like them, you can easily create them yourself using whatever graphics/fonts you have. I'll only ding it one star, and that's because it takes forever to print a sheet of cards. I dislike the fact that the page count in print is for the sheet (who doesn't print a whole sheet at a time?) as well. [alert admin]

T68 ThemeEdit 1.0b2 (Mac OS X)

T610! T610!

Can't hardly wait for a T610 update to this! I've seen it in action on the T68, and it will be great to carry this over to the T610. Keep up the great work, eh? [alert admin]

OmniWeb 4.5 (Mac OS X)

Normally a company man...

I like Mail for OS X, and switched to Safari the day they released it. Had stopped using OmniWeb for a while because it was crashing too much. I'm now apparently back; imported all my Safari bookmarks and am very much liking 4.5 at the moment. I look forward to the addition of tabbed browsing (very addictive) but for the most part I'm going to stick with it for a while. No crashing, pages that Safari was having trouble with work fine under OW. I'll keep Safari (and Camino) around, but I may indeed make this my "daily browser". (I can't say anything bad about the cost; I bought a license a long time back for this.) [alert admin]

disclabel 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Nice version 1.0

I've had a few minor problems with it -- some slowness, mostly (my Mac: DP800, 10.2.6, 1.5GB RAM). A nitty little bug when setting up a template is the only real debilitating issue I've encountered. As for it crashing during imports, I've not tried to import playlists so I can't comment to that. I give it 5 for support because I've exchanged about half a dozen emails with the program's creator via the email noted on their website. Each message was promptly responded to, and he even apologized for any tardiness since he and his team were at MWNY at the time. [alert admin]

Deja Vu 2.3 (Mac OS X)

Works exactly as…

advertised, in the background, without so much as a hiccup. Once you set it, you can truly forget it (assuming you have followed the initial set-up instructions). Well worth the cost of the household license I got. I keep a variance of named external HDs (firewire drives) with a specific shedule, and it just plain works like I want it to. Great job, highly recommended. [alert admin]

Spell Check in Safari

The spellchecking in form fields

FWIW, spellchecking exists in Safari -- when you are in a dialog box (such as the one I'm typing in now) go to Edit>Spelling>Check Spelling as you Type and you'll see the red squiggles appear when you mistype.

vs Print Explosion?

I used to have Print Explosion but found the templates and graphics pretty limiting. I switched to a template I got for AppleWorks, which has a bunch of built-in (and web accessible) graphics & etc. I'd stick with Print Explosion itself if I was going to get either; at least it's a little versatile.
