TiVoDecode Manager 1.1.5 (Mac OS X)

0-byte files.

Well, it sees both of our TiVo units, and the media key seems to work, but when I downloads a file it appears to start (the top button changes to "stop download", but then it appears to be done (in about 2 seconds), and there is nothing but a 0-byte file with the correct name. Has anybody else seen this? - Original G5 2.0, OS 10.4.8. [alert admin]

Peripheral Vision 1.6.3 (Mac OS X)

It really should be part of the OS.

It's that simple. Why Apple doesn't do this is beyond me. [alert admin]

CoreDuoTemp 0.9 (Mac OS X)

0.9 seems to work well.

The screen looks good, and it doesn't bug me for a password. Life is good, and my MacBook is warm.... [alert admin]

iTattle 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Good idea, but....

The idea behind iTattle is sound - it's especially attractive to us SA-types who need to get an overview of a system that includes details that the System Profiler doesn't. However.... On my G5, it reports the incorrect amount of RAM installed. It says 2048M, I have 2560M. For Sound Volume, it reports "missing value% of full". Pulling up user info gives columes with poor formatting, and an inability to scroll all the way to the right - I have to resize the window. For networking, it reports "TITLE" for the external IP address, and "n/a" for DNS servers (which I do have set). The list goes on. This is under a fairly vanilla 10.4.3 install. It's a good concept, but flawed at this point. I plan on checking in again in a few revisions to try it again. [alert admin]

Mouse Locator 1.0 (Mac OS X)

I have a new favorite!

This is a perfect tool for my visual handicap. For some time, I've been using UltraPointer, but good as it is, it is limited by being an application. This causes problems, especially with expose. Since it's a preference pane, Mouse Locator is a step beyond, and is amazingly useful as well. I like all the pointers available on their website, and the ability to create my own is a nice touch. If you have trouble finding your mouse, this is the utility you need. [alert admin]

Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 (Mac OS X)

Don't know why you're having issues...

I've also relied on CCC for years, and it's never let me down. Last night I cloned my G5 to external firewire devices, replaced the drives (with a mirrored pair that was set up by booting the firewire clone), and restoring. Nothing out of place, all differences in size were minor, as expected. No worries here. Oh, and this was under 10.4.2. [alert admin]

UltraPointer 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Ahhh, I needed this.

I have an unusual degenerative cone disorder that's left me with ring scotomas in both eyes. One of the side effects is that I lose the cursor constantly. I've tried a bunch of other utilities, but this one works very well for me. It's worth every penny and then some, as I can find my cursor without having to relocate it to screen corner every time I lose it. If the author continues to optimize it, it'll rock - CPU/memory utilization isn't bad right now, and I expect it will get better. It's also nice that it runs as an app - it makes it quite portable as a result. Good job, and recommended for those who need it. [alert admin]

MI-SUGAR 0.5.7 (Mac OS X)

It's gone.

According to the developer's site, he's going back to Windows because Macs are "too expensive". I don't quite understand that part, with iBook G4's going for $999 these days, but such is life. Too bad, I was looking forward to trying this package out. [alert admin]

Bwana 1.4 (Mac OS X)

In a word, excellent.

I'm a long-time UNIX admin, and for the most part I just search around man page directories for what I want, or use Xman on occasion if it's available. However, Bwana out and out rocks. I'm impressed at the simplicity of the implementation, and the quality of the output. Kudos to the developers. [alert admin]

You Must be Joking.

Wow, such an astute developer. Especially the bit in the description of the current version where you rip the bullet items right from the page mentioned in the comments. Also, about the "I don't see your name on any software" comment: Guess what, you won't see my name on any as well - Nor do I make my own cars or televisions. Software is for the consumer, not the developer. And, if you…

Philips should make drivers that work

So why pan the product? It seems unfair to bust on the makers of this product!

trashware

Hey! Some of us long-time Mac users are *also* long-time UNIX users, and having a utility like this is very handy. Given that Toast 6 seems to botch UNIX file permissions (even when read under OS X), this is a godsend when you are mastering cross-plaform CDs. Also, stop whining - it's free.
