CleanArchiver 2.4a4 (Mac OS X)
Interesting option for a zipit utility
Several comments. The help was extremely brief. Even after reading it it was somewhat a guessing game for the utility. I tried it and dragged 4 files to the utility window. It seemed to work but were or were did it put the zip file? I eventually found it and it was someplace you wouldn't expect to find it. It was on the same volume but in a completely disconnected folder. There doesn't seem to be a default as to where to put the zip file so instead of logically putting it in the same folder it puts it someplace else and you have to go searching for it. The help needs expansion and either an option to where the zip file should be created or at least default it to the same folder. [alert admin]

Zip Mac Files For a PC 1.9 (Mac OS X)
Not sure if its a bug or crippleware
I d/l this as I have been having many many many issues with Yellowmug's YEMUZIP. The first thing I noticed that it allows only 4 zip files to be created (and then?) It also either hid the zip files it said it created or it did not put them where they could be found. Finder could not find them. So I am left with no output to see if it works on a windows machine. GraphicConverter Classic 6.2.1 (Mac OS 9)
GC is truly a great product and worth every penny you pay. The owner is extremely responsive to bug reports and generally has a fix in a few days. Unfortunately there are some bugs that cannot be repeated and features that you get to depend on never get fixed. Example: Find Duplicates works 98 percent of the time and when it doesn't the whole machine tends to crash. So no report is generated and nothing for the owner to look at. There should be but there isn't. I am not sure if its an Apple issue or a GC issue but in any case nothing ever gets resolved. I have been told a lot of the bug reports that are filed are in "someone" else code (from Apple to ADOBE and others) and it is like nothing ever gets resolved if the problem is other peoples code. So if you do not like your system to crash only keep to displaying of images and it works really well. Despite all my issues the product is really good and is extremely flexible (almost too flexible in some cases) as the preferences are many and most are poorly documented (IMO) so you must go through all of them any time you want to change something (simple?). The documentation was probably written in German and has been translated to English so-so. The person that writes the documentation at times ask someone on the mailing list on how to phrase something. With the support and the price you cannot go wrong. [alert admin]

The product has a builtin limit of 25 files. If you want more than that you must purchase it. [alert admin]

Hogwasher 4.3 (Mac OS X)
Product is OK but complex to set up and documentation is less than clear ![]()

I have been using Hogwasher for about a year. There are several issues in that in crashes frequently (seveal times a month) when d/l newsgroups. There are certain newsgroups it will just not d/l correctly. You must unsubscribe and resubscribe to get them to d/l. I have the problem consistantly with one newsgroup although all the others work reasonably well. The doumentation is sketchy when it comes to filters, I think they basically should redo the doc on filters. Support is flakey, IMO. I submitted a question when I first got the product and never did gety a responce back,. A few months ago I got a reply within two days. I almost decided not to purchase it but my friend talked me into it. The number one item (besides stability) that needs to be worked on is documentation and examples. Having said that it does work (when it works correctly) . Ed [alert admin]

BEST? Well ummmm... not to disagree with you but it is essentially unusable. I started it up and set it defaults and it went away (ended) no window opened up nothing, is it supposed to create zip file(s) ? It was less than intuitive for me. I will pass on it. Shame it looked promising. Ed
