MIDI Monitor 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Thanks for the application

Its amazing how this type of information is not readily available in most of the high end audio applications - I've been struggling with some midi connectivity issues, and this application made the source of the problem obvious within 50 seconds of downloading the app from the web... It also looks like a good tool to help remember (or discover) what the meaning of MIDI cc messages are for any given instrument, etc. Thanks for making this available... Sincerely PB of the N [alert admin]

Phantom Cine QuickTime Toolkit 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Thank you...

To the developer. I just received a Miro Color high speed camera at work and was disappointed to find NO support for the mac in the software provided. On a whim I did a google search and found your application. GREAT... Just in time. I suppose Vision Research's focus on the scientific aspects of high speed videography has led them to this window's centric solution set (an assumption that is getting very old - yep, scientists use macs too... ) However; their new product offering in the HD high speed realm will certainly dictate that they get familiar with the mac... Using PC's in Hollywood is not entirely PC. But I digress. Thanks for getting the functionality right, and getting what appears to be a reliable product to market just when I needed it. Sincerely, DJP Polar Bear Studios. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.3.18 (Mac OS X)

Thanks

I have had to deal with a number of programs designed to do the minimum with strange notions of what the mac interface is all about. These packages tend to come from hardware manufacturers selling expensive hardware to mac users - like Nikon Scan, and Canons Drivers for the Canon 9000 F Scanner. Argh. I finally invested the dollars in this software and am very happy to report that it really does work well... If the hardware manufacturers really don't want to invest the effort to do the programs right, then they should invest in software such as this. One very nice aspect of using VueScan is that I now have a unified user interface for both scanners (A slide Scanner L-50, and a platen Scanner - Canon)... This alone would be worth the money, but when you take into account that vuescan, by nearly all accounts, is vastly superior to these 'OEM' packages, well - its a slamdunk... I wish I didn't have to spend the money - but in this case, its worth it. Also, I had purchased Ai Silverscan a while ago, and while it is a very capable program; it is very expensive, has a ridiculous model of having to buy one program for each scanner, and is no where near as easy to use as VueScan. I'm sure the Pro buffs will claim that it does some esoteric thing better, but at this point, I'm just interested in finishing my slide scanning project, which has been delayed for near ever with Nikon Driver foo-bar. The fact that this program also handles the Canon Platen Scanner is a bonus. Thanks Hamrick. Dan P [alert admin]

Pro version is great.

I concur with some of the previous reviews - this is a great piece of software. Integrates well with Quicktime, and finally allows me to deal with all of the windows media content that is foisted upon me. Although a tad pricey, I am generally willing to pay to minimize the number of times I get to see the microsoft flag on my computer. On the technical plus side, I can convert WMV files to MP4/H264 and end up with scrubbable content (imagine), and have also been successful in using this tool in converting 'streaming' WMV content to something that can stay on my disk drive. In general, I'd much prefer that the content providers simply produce Open source content - such as MP4 and H264... But as long as the sheep continue to use WMP, the more we will need these type of tools. I'm not a big fan of exporting content to WMP since this seems to support the current machinery. However; it is another excellent feature of this program. DP Issaquah [alert admin]

Nice port of Spice and highly appreciated

Once you get use to coding your schematics into netlists, and setting up simulations with a text editor - like the old days. This package performs very well. The simulations run quickly. For evaluating relatively small designs, this is just fine. I give this a good ease of use rating, because its easy to use for what it is. Compared to systems that allow you to enter schematics and have flexible output formats - its not easy to use... But given that it is 'freeware', its has nearly infinite value - divide by zero error. My only request.. It would would be great if there was an option to export simulation data/vectors to a tab delimited, or spreadsheet format. Dare I mention excel >). This would allow for a more modern and flexible data analysis. Thanks [alert admin]

Microsoft Virtual PC 7.0 (Mac OS X)

sluggish performance

HELP... I'm running VPC 7.0 with XP Pro on a powerbook G4 at 1.33 GHz with 500 MB allocated to the VPC... There is 1.5 G of RAM in the PB... The performance of the system is beyond slow... windows take forever to even move, let alone repaint. I use to have VPC 6.0 and Win 2K... It seemed like a much more friendly and efficient combination... At this point I'd say that performance on a powerbook is unacceptable. If anyone has any ideas about how this might be improved, I'm all ears. If this is typical performance, then it is really too bad... VPC was getting pretty good for a while. [alert admin]

iTunes XHTML Playlist 4.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Nice Application

Thanks for developing this. Its a nice tool and seems to work well. I converted my library (1000+) songs in 12 seconds and a playlist in no time... Using iTunes 4.6, and the latest system software, did not seem to have any troubles. 1 feature request would be to add a line limit to repeat the header information - so that page printouts could be have header information at the top of each page. A better way to say that would be - specify the number of songs per page, and then generate a page break with new header info in the xml. Thanks again for making a simple, useful application available... Dan P [alert admin]

6.5.4 for Mac OS X is available

Glad to hear it. 6.5 was crashing regularly in Tiger, now 6.5.4 works fine for me as well... Now if anyone can tell me how to change the default type size for the viewer windows - that would be great. I find this environment to be --- wow. Frustrating. Apparently the IT folks have great eyesight, since the point size on the font is about 9. Dan

Where is the 6.5.4. Mac update..or any update link

Hi Sasha - If I had to guess you work for Philips - but that Might be wrong... I'm in the same situation - big company with a high priority on using applications that are centrally managed and uniquely obtuse. I found this link to be very helpful... While I still had to create an account at IBM to get the download, it did work. 6.5.4 seems much better in Tiger than 6.5 did. …
