Mellel 2.1.2 (Mac OS X)
The main feature that drew me to Mellel was that it supported OpenType unicode right-to-left scripting fonts. Because of that fact, I could use my Mac to type in Uyghur, a Turkik language that uses a modified Arabic script. Aside from another application/suite that costs hundreds to over $1000, Mellel is the only application for the Mac that can handle OpenType right-to-left fonts that I have found, and I've researched just about everything. Furthermore, it makes typing English and "Arabic" style languages a snap! After I started using Mellel, it quickly became my favorite word processor, especially with the way it handles columns and style sets. The styles are so easy to create, edit and use, very intuitive. The outlining feature is great because it doesn't automatically take over your document. You control each line of the outline quickly and easily. There are many more positive features to mention, and I'm constantly discovering new ones as the need for them comes up. One feature that I wish it had "more" of is shortcuts for more of the features. I have to go to the Palletes and menus more than I would like. But this is a inconvenience that is far outweighed by is great features. The main thing that people need to keep in mind when evaluating Mellel is why Mellel was developed in the first place. It's not a catch all for every type of word processing need, like the other most commonly used word processor. Mellel serves a focus purpose and it does it extremely well. [alert admin]

Pediatricians will tell you that the sound inside the womb is like a loud vacuum cleaner. I learned about how to quite our new born from www.thehappiestbaby.com. They tell you to use the 5 "S"s (Shooshing, swaddling, stomach/side position, swaying, sucking). Before I found "Noise", I recorded my voice making a shooshing sound, and then played it to calm my daughter. It didn't work too well. But then I used "Noise"! It's great because you can turn it on quickly and get it loud. When holding my daughter, I turn on the pink noise, and she just stops crying and looks around, then relaxes and sometimes falls asleep. It's great. [alert admin]

Tofu 1.3.4 (Mac OS X)
This makes reading on the computer so much easier. I read the readme file about why this is so, and didn't really think much of it until I started using Tofu. It's true the narrower columns and the visual stability from scrolling horizontally is way more pleasant/normal. If this app had page turning like Zinio Reader, it would be over the top. In no way am I complaining. Tofu is freeware. Personally, I think there is absolutely no grounds for griping against freeware apps, except when there is fasle advertaising that results in computer problems. For the developer, the "page down" and "down arrow" scroll equally as much as the "right arrow". I'm using a G5 with OS 10.3.9 [alert admin]

AlchemyTV DVR 2.3 (Mac OS X)
My setup is: G5 Dual 2GHz. Living in China I'm so thankful for the customer support that I wanted to post this before giving an acutal review of the product. Over the past few days, Miglia's tech support has helped me get this working. Miglia had me send them my console logs, and then told me what to do. They also sent me the beta version 2.4 for troubleshooting. I was missing some of the system tools in my System folder that AlchemyTV needs. Miglia sent me the tools installer. Then, it turned out I didn't have Helveta font activated in Font Book. (by the way version 2.4 will change to default to the Courier font). Without the font enabled, the setup assistant didn't work. I have a Tungsten T3 and I'm using Missing Sync. PocketTunes Delux works great. I have had zero problems. The playlist features, different views, EQ, bookmarks, etc. are all great features. The book marks are good for listing to books, and the playlists for listening to music. I also use it for listening to language material from my Chinese classes, and there is a feature missing that would be very helpful. It doesn't have "repeat 1", it only has "repeat All". So you can't repeat a song that is within a playlist. It only repeats what ever is opened (playlist, a singlle song). You have to open that song separately and then have it repeat. The other (few) MP3 Palm players don't do this either. Other than that, this app has served me well. [alert admin]

Documents To Go Premium Edition 7.002 (Mac OS X)
I have a Tungsten T3. I'm not a power user, just simple word and excel. Maybe that's why I haven't had any freezes. It works fine for me. I read a lot of review before buying this upgrade. The feature improvements that sold me where, Chinese support and appearance upgrades. The chinese still has some kinks that need to be worked out. But at least I can view and input Chinese (CJKOS). Wow, the appearance upgrades were worth the money alone. Now it's starting to look much closer the the desktop look. It's so much more pleasant to look at. Support has been good. [alert admin]

muCommander 0.7.1 (Mac OS X)
I agree that muCommander much better than XFolders. The look and feel of XFolders is Mac like, but it's just too unstable at its current version, 0.7.2. At first the appearance through me off. It was like looking at something from Linux. I found in the preferences that you can change the appearance colors. This is a nice feature because you can set colors for different types of files (hidden, plain, etc.). The appearance still has some rough edges, but so what, when it's free and works great. it's a great app, and does exactly what I need, moving files and folders around without having to mess with windows in the Finder. Audio In 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Audio In allows me to listen through my G5 speakers as I edit recordings on my minidisc recorder (MZR-5ST, which has optical in/out ports). I run an optical line out from my minidisc into my G5's optical in port. Before, I had to use headphones plugged into my minidisc, and they never seem to be around when I need them! I do a lot of recording for language learning on a minidisc recorder. There are other applications that I have which do this, by the way, like Amadeus II. However, Audio In is nice and small and easier to set up and use for play through. And it's free! Thanks!! [alert admin]

Check Off 3.2 (Mac OS X)
I would use it if I could import. I use my PDA for managing task lists, one of which is "To Do On Computer". Things to do on the computer often come to mind while I'm not on the computer, so I put them in my PDA. It would great to be able to import say a text file into Check Off, that was from my PDA.
