R3D Data Manager 4.3 (Mac OS X)

Running scared with confidence

I purchased R3D manager a while back and have used it on every RED job I've produced. Sure there are other ways of making sure the data is verified but if you are an end user like myself and want to make absolutely sure that your data has been safely cloned then buy this product. The GUI is solid and it is reasonable priced. Remember, as soon as that hard drive or CF card connects back with the camera, it's all over. The data you captured has now been erased. The app. can output to four different drives at once. So long film negative, hello 1's and 0's. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.5.14 (Mac OS X)

Hamrick Rules!

I've been using this application for a number of years. It came about when my trusty old Epson all-in-one-printer/scanner ceased to be supported by its own company. Lo and Behold VueScan came to the rescue. I produce TV commercials and travel all over. I can't always carry a scanner with me and on occasion I have to take an image and scan it for clients. Vuescan is all I need. It is constantly updated and you will actually hear back from the developer if you have any issues (I've only had one since my purchase). The updates are forever. Dig out your credit card and do the right thing. You won't be sorry. [alert admin]

Belly up

Folks, Although this was a pretty good Palm program, this site went Belly-Up last November. Don't waste your time or money. [alert admin]

sunPATH 1.6 (Mac OS X)

Gold Standard

When I go out on a location scout for a television commercial the Gaffer is usually holding a piece of paper that has a footer bearing the name sunPATH. This is an indespensible program for figuring out where Mr. Sun will be poking his head out for the duration of any given day of your shooting schedule. I have a Trimble ScoutMaster GPS I don't bother with anymore after I purchased this program. This is an update from OS 9. The Author also offers a Suunto "Tandem" clnometer/compass which I would also highly recommend. Without it the data from sunPATH will be useless. The only downside is the process of serialization for the program. For the uninitiated it can be confusing. [alert admin]

CE QuickConference 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)

Quickconference

Have used Quickconference for quite some time. Macs and Windows (Creative and Accounting) Great program except it doesn't support firewalls. I've called, e-mailed numerous times to find out about an update. No dice. They are ignoring their biggest problem. Am now in the process of ditching this application for something else. If you have any of your machines walled off from other ones, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! [alert admin]

ROUTE 66 Route 2001-2002 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I spoke with…

the good/bad? people of DeLorme (Street Atlas 6.0)on 10/28/02. No upgrade for Mac, Unix. Linux in their future. Too bad. I guess they can't turn a buck on their Mac version. Meanwhile they continue to send me info on their upgrades for Windows. Is Garmin or Magellan even picking up the ball on this? I'm with "cricrimacge" "Is it better than Street Atlas USA 6.0?
