BIAS Peak 4.02 (Mac OS X)
I'd like to add some positive feedback to this post. I've been using Peak since version 2, I think, at least I know it's been many years. The version 4 interface is, perhaps, a little ugly. I guess it's a matter of taste since I don't find it so bad. The fact that they added the Blend tool to the individual window and not the app in general (it can be on or off for each individual file) is really welcome. But then the preference panel is the pits, I agree. Too many steps to change simple options that you need to change frequently. But I also find it remarkably stable, something I can's say for Spark. And mine is really fast, much faster than any of the other versions. Opening large files, which I work with all the time, seems to show a marked improvement. Opening QT files and being able to edit the audio in sync with the video (it opens a video window too) is way, way cool. As for saving Quicktime and other types of files, Peak does what other programs, like Photoshop, do. If you save it as a foreign file type, it'll often ask you to save it again as a native file. Of course, you don't have to as you can always open up the foreign file type, but this doesn't seem to be a bug but rather a common feature these days. Peak still doesn't clean up all the temp files, but version 4 does a much better job of it than 3. This kind of bugs me but I've learned to live with it. The app itself is a workhorse and I find it very useful. For those who are offended by the high price, I highly recommend Amadeus. It does almost everything that Peak does, plus some things that Peak doesn't do. I think it's only about $40. It's not very glamorous to look at, but it's stable, fast and works well. Highly recommended. Amadeus is a lot of app for the money. [alert admin]

FoldersSynchronizer 3.4.0 (Mac OS X)
I've been using this app for quite a while (including beta) and it is a great utility that does what it says, and very well. I use Carbon Copy Cloner too, another excellent application, and one isn't "better" than the other in my opinion. They can both back up files but have different strengths and uses. Folder Synchronizer is great for on-the-spot backups and folder synchs. CCC is good to make regular scheduled backups of entire disks or large directories, in addition to its ability to get you out of a jam quick by cloning an entire disk. FS can schedule too but last time I tried the application had to be open to keep the schedule, making it pretty useless for that purpose. That may have changed... don't know. One pet peeve: the licensing scheme is so NOT OS X friendly. If you upgrade by replacing the existing application folder with a new one, there goes your license too. As for $40, that's only a decent meal for 2. For all the time and effort that goes into this app - upgrades come at a regular clip - the developer certainly deserves the money. Skip one night out and buy the app. It's something you'll probably use for quite a while. [alert admin]

by the number of people having problems with their Wacom. I've had an Intuos 2 for a long time and never a problem. As a matter of fact I think it's one of the msot wonderful things in the world. I'm sure the software could be more sophisticated, like allowing multiple users, but that hasn't been a concern for me. The darn thing just works and works very well. From all the complaints it seems that probably the cause of the problems is where the tablet is plugged in. It needs power. I always plugged it directly into my box, not into a keyboard or hub (though I imagine a powered hub would work just as well). I have a G4 desktop, so added USB cards right into the computer. They're the same price as a hub but no clutter and give me 4 extra USB plugs - and USB 2 at that. I feel bad that there are people out there who have bought a tablet and can't enjoy it. It's great. Apple Backup 2.0b (Mac OS X)
I can't figure it out. I've been using Backup since it came out and have never had a problem with it. True it lacked some essential features but they seem to be appearing over time. As for making it free, well it is, but it was intended to be used to backup to a .Mac account. As for free backup software, every CD and DVD writer that I bought had some free backup utility on it, usually Retrospect Express or LaCie SilverKeeper. You can hardly say that the Mac world is hungry for free backup software. It's everywhere. (Try searching this site!) Because Apple doesn't make one that's "free" as in no strings attached doesn't mean that they don't exist. The cost of a .Mac account is worth having some essential storage off-site, performed daily and without any bother. Everything else, like email, the other free apps (games and stuff), iSync which kicks a** if you have more than one Mac, and a personal web site where I can throw files for people to grab is extra icing on the cake, in my humble opinion. DockDisks 1.0b4.5 (Mac OS X)
... my previous comment. I put my removable disks in the file section of the dock (as opposed to at the top of the dock) and I can browse the contents of the disk. Right on! That was my oversight. Now I seems perfect to me. [alert admin]

DockDisks 1.0b4.5 (Mac OS X)
I just installed and played with this for a while. Seems pretty nice to me. I can live with the dock restarting... that bugger needs a little kicking around every once in a while if you ask me (and it certainly doesn't hurt anything as far as I know). I don't know what's up with Acrappa's Mac, but my discs eject immediately when dragged off the dock and the desktop images of the disks also disappear immediately. So far, not one complaint, though I don't really see much use for this without being able to browse the contents of the disk - except that it provides somewhat handy access to removable disk eject. But it is free and the author should be applauded for his work so far. Well done. [alert admin]

PDF U 1.22 (Mac OS X)
Yeah you could just do this manually the way some people are suggesting. If you place an alias to a folder in the PDF services it will save a copy there all right. But you won't have a chance to name the file. Good luck finding it, depending on where it's coming from and where it's going. And sure, you could try your hand at writing your own Apple Scripts to do that. LOL LOL LOL for most people. Give the authors a break. (No, I'm NOT one of them and don't know them.) This is fast and painless for those who can use it. Kind of reminds me of when someone says, "you can do this in terminal for free by typing..." I know how to do that stuff, but most don't want to touch terminal or mess around with things in /Library. Can you really blame them? Not everyone lives on their computer, or FOR their computer, like me <sob>. It was great for Apple to post that info so these guys could write what they did. Bravo! [alert admin]

Amadeus II 3.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I have to agree with the others but want to add to the chorus. I also own the full Peak, Deck, etc. but for some things you just can't beat Amadeus. If there is one that is a MUST for general audio, this is it in my book. [alert admin]
