I've used this application for about 2 years and it still wakes me up every morning and puts me to sleep many nights. Works like a charm and nearly every feature is useful. More in-depth review here: http://peterbeddow.blogspot.com/2007/06/awaken-best-alarm-clock-software-ever.html [alert admin]

Warp 1.0 (Mac OS X)
This fills a needed gap in the Spaces tech. One thing that keeps happening to me, though, is that I warp when I am simply lingering around menus too long. I can't think how to avoid this - other than to turn it off - but it sort of defeats the purpose since I'm then forced to wait the 1.4 secs (the happy medium I've settled upon that makes this limitation the least annoying) to get back to where I wanted to be, so I can go back and linger at the menu again!! Thanks for putting tihs software out for free. [alert admin]

Radioshift 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I have been nothing but impressed by this app. From the design which, quite frankly, improves on some of Apple's latest applications, to the ease of use which is as simple as it gets, I immediately took a liking to this beautiful and highly-functional piece of software. The GUI appears to imitate a combination of the Finder, iTunes Music Store, and the iPhone interface. My first attempt to find the radio program I like (and ALWAYS miss) was successful, and it was playing when it discovered it. The program asked me if I wanted to record. I agreed, and then I proceeded to listen in as it recorded. I cut out early and went for a run, and now I've got a recording for later on. I also asked it to record my other 2 faves each day. I opted not to have my computer wake up to record, but hopefully I'll be around and online for at least some of the scheduled times. Even if the recordings are hit or miss because of my weird schedule, I'll be glad to have at least one or two recordings of daily shows per week to listen to. (Talk shows tend to repeat the same basic content over and over anyway!) At the very least, download the trial version and take a look - then go ahead and urge other software developers to use a similar GUI in their programs if you turn out to like it as much as I do. This app is the model of what third-party Apple applications ought to be by now. [alert admin]

Awaken 2.5 (Mac OS X)
MUCH better than Alarm Clock Pro! ![]()

Finally, a simple alarm clock program that allows me to wake up at 4:00am on Tuesdays, 6:00am every other day, 7:00 tomorrow morning if I want to sleep in... Not to mention going to sleep listening to music, etc. Great app. DON'T try Alarm Clock Pro... or actually, go ahead and try ACP for a while so that you'll know exactly why this is such a better program. But I suggest you just take my word for it and stick with this as the be-all-end-all for alarm clock programs. My only note is that there are occasional instability issues with 2.5, which are easily cleared up by force-quitting and restarting the app. Maybe 2.6 fixes it. [alert admin]

Don't pay to register this product. ![]()

I foolishly decided to register Alarm Clock Pro before I had really used it for very long. Immediately I found that (like the user who reviewed this product on 10/26/05) it takes an inordinate amount of clicks just to tell it to wake me up at 5:40, then configuring the Power Manager is another tedious process. But wait, there's more: Even when I used Power Manager, the computer did not wake up consistently at the correct time. More specifically, the computer woke up 5 minutes prior to the alarm and then slept again 3 minutes later, so when the alarm time actually came, the machine had gone back to sleep. The developer has consistently (read: up to 4x/month) updated this application, even including my "bug" on the release notes "to do" section. But months later, after paying the $15 and eventually ceasing my use of the software altogether, my bug had still not been addressed. Finally, when the new release did claim to have fixed the bug, the developer informed me that I must upgrade to OS X 10.4 in order for the new "feature" to work. Now, for my 10.3.9 system, the software does not wake the computer from sleep at all. His message was, "Looks like it has, unfortunately, become a 10.4 only feature." Twice within days of registering the product, I politely asked for my money back since the software was not performing as described. Even while replying to e-mails containing this question, he ignored my request entirely and addressed only the software issues. Thank God for 20 year-old Radio Shack alarm clocks and Moms (no, I don't still live with mine, but sometimes I wish I did!) [alert admin]
