MovCaptioner 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Site Will Be Back Up on 10/1/08 (bandwidth exceeded)
If you cannot download MovCaptioner today or view the website, it's because I have exceeded my bandwidth limit for the month. Since people found out that MovCaptioner works with YouTube now, I've had a major influx of visitors to the site. It will be back up tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience. [alert admin]

MovCaptioner 1.5 (Mac OS X)
MovCaptioner is now fully compatible with Leopard
Note: If you import text, you may get an extra blank caption at the end. Just select it and delete it. This is being fixed in the new version I hope to have out soon. I am also going to release a localized version for French, German, and Italian users in the near future as well. Thanks for trying MovCaptioner. Let me know if you run into any issues. [alert admin]

MovCaptioner 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Please Delete your MovCaptioner Preferences File If You've Used MovCaptioner Before
The old preferences file could cause a crash on opening the app. So go to your USER/Library/Preferences folder and delete the file called MovCationerPrefs and you should be fine. Also, please be sure to view the movie "How To Get Started" on the website: http://www.slidesnow.com/movcaptioner You really should see how to use this before you try it the first time. You should use the Start button instead of the movie's play button and don't click the Cue Next button until you know what it's really for. There is also a brief How To Use MovCaptioner file that comes with the app that's worth your time to look at. [alert admin]

MovCaptioner 1.0 (Mac OS X)
If you downloaded the zip file prior to 7/12/07, you might want to download again. Seems there was a problem with the Cue Next button if there were no captions already saved. It's fixed now. Bear with me folks. I'm not some great programmer, but I do believe this s/w will really be helpful to you. Also, if you go to the website at http://www.slidesnow.com/movcaptioner there are some videos that will help you get started using this s/w very quickly. Let me know if you run into any troubles, please, and thanks for trying MovCaptioner! [alert admin]

ScreenCaptureX 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Should now work with OS 10.3.9 as well as newer OS versions
I made a minor adjustment to the code to make it work for OS 10.3.9. Had a couple of people who had problems with it and with their patient assistance. I was able to make it work properly for them as well. So, download a new copy if you had troubles as well. Thanks for trying this folks. I'll keep adding your ideas if there is enough interest. ScreenCaptureX 1.2 (Mac OS X)
A few notes from the developer...
1. Remember that the counter for sequential naming starts at 1 each time you quit out and reopen ScreenCaptureX, so if you have images in your target folder already, the first one will be overwritten if you start taking new images. Best to move the old screenshots into a subfolder before starting to take more screen shots. I'll try to do something about this soon. Don't shoot me, okay? 2. On some larger screenshots, you might not see the right hand side of the image when the caption screen comes up. Don't worry, the file will be completely there on the saved image when you open it again after adding the caption and saving. Not sure why this happens, but I'm working on it. 3. Text is sometimes not exactly centered. I'm using an average of how wide the text should be for so many letters. It may vary somewhat with punctuation and spaces and such. Should get it pretty much in the ballpark, though for now. Working on this as well. 4. After saving a caption, the suffix is coming in all caps. I will fix this soon as well. Keep these in mind as you try this app out. I think you'll find it helpful despite the things I'm working on, so I went ahead and posted the update. [alert admin]

Sorry about the down time. I had to clear that up with my web hosting provider. Not sure how they screwed that up, but it's fixed now.

A few notes from the developer...
Another helpful hint - keep your monitor resolution at its highest and/or make sure you don't capture a window or section that is too tall if you want to add a caption or else you won't be able to see the text field to add/save the caption to the file. For example, if you monitor resolution is 1024x768, don't try to capture a window that is taller than say 650. Some day I'll make is…

Duplicates built-in functionality
Preview by default saves files as TIFF format. You then need to Save As another format. It also cannot save to a specific folder that you name on your hard drive, nor can you set the default name. Preview cannot capture images from the DVD player either.
