Perian 0.5 (Mac OS X)
This seems to be the same Sept 06 component re-listed today as if it was "newer." It isn't, it's 9 months old. [alert admin]

Camino 1.5 (Mac OS X)
Well, looks like 104 is the last version I can regularly use. Something significant must have happened in the JavaScript engine as it is implemented in Camino (IMO) as it will NOT correctly draw the main page at my bank. I spent at least a full day testing various suggestions from the developers a while back, nothing seemed to work. Most of them had to do with exactly what utility I had to use to spoof Firefox (as if the utility had anything to do with it). Once spoofing was set up the way they wanted it to be, it still was a no go. Firefox worked 100% of the time. Safari works 100% of the time. Camino 104 works 100% of the time. No beta, alpha, dev or release version after 104 works. So they dismissed it as the bank's fault. Which it clearly and obviously isn't. My bank (Citibank) is fairly clear about browsers it supports. Netscape, Firefox, Safari, IE are all supported. AND all work 100% correctly. So it was left as it's the banks fault because they don't do "browser detection" correctly. Which is BS as it is sending me the same that it would send me if I ran Firefox. Yet Firefox works correctly, Camino does not. I did my part, spending at least a full day testing various suggestions. In the end it came down to "none of the developers has an account there" and "they aren't doing correct detection." Meaning they no interest in Camino working correctly with this bank, so beware. Another serious issue is the ability to work with avi/wmv files (pretty much all streaming video outside Apple uses this format, the most used for me is cnn.com video). Now I know all about container formats and codecs. And I know that we Mac folk have Flip4Mac which brings reasonable support to windows centric codecs. And we know it works well with Safari. As far as I know, there has been no effort to get with the Flip4Mac developers to make it work in Camino as it does in Safari. For the past few years I have become known in my circle as a tireless promoter of Camino, so I kinda feel let down big time. I do understand the issue of a free piece of software, but when it gets to the point that every three out of four lynches HAS to be another browser, what's the point. The snickers from my pals that the browser I so firmly proselytized will get little or no use certainly stings. [alert admin]

Adobe DNG Converter & Camera Raw 4.1 (Mac OS X)
First, it's a writable dmg, I have never seen Adobe (or any other reputable software developer) do this. Secondly, the DNG Converter is NOT included. Not saying it's BAD, but odd. [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.9.198 (Mac OS X)
BUT, I'd really like a pref setting to make sure it ALWAYS runs in full screen. The only way to get full screen seems to be to enter gameplay first, then hit OPT-ENTER. [alert admin]

Wacom Tablet 6.03-2 (Mac OS X)
VT link generates a "unable to connect" error message. On the Wacom site, it is listed as version "6.03-3" but "6.03-2" is what is downloaded AND once installed, shows as that in it's About dialog. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.7.9b3 (Mac OS X)
Verify Startup Disk Now Works!
I had said this was a crasher... because the animated thermometer had stopped AND the pop up menu from it's Dock icon read "Force Quit." Happened multiple times, BUT this version completed the verify! [alert admin]

Ardiem 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
A real shame that this utility seems to not support USB 2 connected drives. I wrote the developer, but got no reply. Too bad as it's clear FW is being left where it is by Apple AND being there's no i/o transfer speed issues (USB2 supports far more speed than an optical drive can do) there's no reason to pay 10-20 extra for FW and USB connections. WeatherMenu 3.7.5 (Mac OS X)
I had gladly paid the price for this app because it really did exactly what I wanted it to do. So I WAS major bummed out that the developer kind of dropped supporting it, it did seem like the issue was getting the data from the national weather service, and one WOULD think one would NOT have to be constantly updating the mechanism. On a lark, I launched the app "for the hell of it." Running 10.4.9 on a dual G5. It sure appears to be functioning properly and correctly. So it LOOKS like this fine app may be back in play for the latest OS release. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.7.9b2 (Mac OS X)
There are still 2 big issues that I see. One is the SMART monitoring. I have 2 internal drives that are in a RAID 0 configuration (via Apple software). Every other application that queries SMART lists both drives separately. BUT Onyx completely fails, saying I don't have any SMART enabled drives. There's also a crasher. The "Verify Startup Disk" function brings up the old thermometer, but soon it freezes. The app has crashed in pace, one needs to force quit it. This was an issue with the last "stable" release and is also true of this version. [alert admin]

Azureus BitTorrent Client 3.0.0.8 (Mac OS X)
Indeed you can fairly effectively hide the fact that Azureus is trying to become more of a mainstream technology. I made some inquiries when Zudeo first appeared. Zudeo is Azureus with a "connection" to the Zudeo site which holds a bunch of content on it's own. BUT, version numbers are not necessarily in sync and very hard to discern. It is entirely possible that this "3.0.0.8" version is actually the same as 2.5.0.4. I have suggested to the developers that what Azureus engine in underneath THIS version needs to be far easier to find. [alert admin]

Indeed, called the program "CrushFTP.app" would make everyone first think of it as a ftp client. I did AND I have managed software development! As it handles more than just FTP, using "CrushServer.app" would be a far better name. Besides, we already have a major, kick-butt ftp client in Yummy FTP.

Option-Enter does the trick! Unfortunately, it doesn't persists launch to launch AND you can only invoke it once you are actually playing the game. PLUS, you MUST set the screen resolution to exactly what you have. Might be nice to jigger it so one can choose full screen and have it stay that way from launch to launch.

Not the issue, the drives it's reporting on are on the internal SATA controllers. 1.7.4 does not seem to address the issue. I also have 2 externals arrays via a SATA PCI card and there's no telling what Onyx is reporting on... plus there doesn't seem to be a way to initiate a check, only turning the check on at startup.

AppleScript does indeed have issues with characters that it shouldn't have issues with. However, in this case, you are using a forward slash character in a directory name! The OS should NEVER, EVER allow you to use such a character (it's illegal in a filename in Unix). This should have been dealt with back in 1.0 and it's still around to this day! Lame.

Ooops, a mistype I didn't catch! Actually, I have done that before... but I decided to try again. I had some really odd things happen along the way, until I figured out exactly what that editor was doing (i.e. the ONLY way to really start from scratch was to toss both "de.nada.cep.x" pref files and the SearchURLLIst.plist file while Camino was shut down). I add in a bunch of cep files plus 2 that I manually…

Ah, thanks for the reply. I had repeated it several times... I got the gray apple logo, but do not get to the "spinning lines." My understanding was that that form of thermometer indicates X is loading various packages. I left it for 2-3 minutes twice and one time for over 10. The system simply would not boot. Not sure how a kext can be "codeless" as (again, my understanding) it is supposed to provide some service…
