NeoOffice 2.1 patch 6 (Mac OS X)
NeoOffice has been sped up significantly with Patch 6. Both text layout and image handling are improved. [alert admin]

iPodBackup 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)
When using an iPod formatted for use with Windows (FAT32)
Remember that the FAT32 file system, which is needed if you want to use your iPod with Windows, does not support file sizes over 4 GB. This means that you cannot put big user folders into a disk image. You can always put them on your iPod as a folder. If you have a lot of stuff in your user folder and want to use a disk image (for the encryption or something), you might want to drop some or all of your Movies folder, because these tend to grow really big really fast and are often easiest to replace per MB. Or you can put them on a seperate CD/DVD for archiving. [alert admin]

NeoOffice/J 1.1rc (Mac OS X)
I have used this product for half a year now and I use it more and more. I am now at a point where I don't even start MS Word for days on end. NeoOffice is now feature rich, outstandingly stable and very friendly to use. Help and spellcheckers are available in many languages and integration with OS X is almost perfected. The only downsides are the ugly linuxy file picker and the icons, which might put off a first-time user. But after getting past these visual annoyances, it is a joy to use. Support from both the developers and the user community is excellent (and documentation and tips are being collected in a wiki). On hardware, I would encourage 512MB of RAM or more. It seriously improves the speed and responsiveness of this rather large application. It is very satisfying both to see this product mature over a period of mere months and use it every day. NeoOffice/J 1.1b (Mac OS X)
As a native port of OpenOffice.org, almost all of the excellent functionality in that application applies, particularly the availability of (currently) 40 languages, the clear style system and the ability to accurately read (and write) a large number of common file formats (including MS Office and now basic read-only support for Wordperfect documents). While not yet completely native, the current NeoOffice supports Apple-style menus, and is otherwise fairly integrated with Mac OS X. Stability has also improved greatly over the last few months and is now on par with some of its commercial competitors. The only serious downside is the large amount of RAM it requires, a machine with at least 512 MB is recommended (this is apparently due to the use of Apple's Java Virtual Machine and the underlying OpenOffice.org code). All of the programming and testing of NeoOffice is done by volunteers, and the community is very accessible and responsive. A userfriendly patch notification system is also implemented. Great software and even better value for money. [alert admin]
