GuitarToolkit 1.1 (iPhone)

Strong initial release

I'm impressed with what I'm seeing so far. Having graphic access to a couple hundred chord shapes, a metronome, audible ear tuner, and guitar tuner with Standard and a bunch of alternate tunings in a graphically pleasing interface. Nicely done!

I've had no issues of crashes, or unstable behavior.

My one issue has been erratic behavior with the tuner, but only when dealing with my low E string. An email sent to support resulted in a very fast reply, letting me know a 1.1 was in the works, and should be out shortly!

My suggestions: Add alternates to the primary chord shapes. Tie the Tones to the current tuning. (ie, if an alternate tuning is active [by clicking on "Mode" in Tuner] switching to Tones and tapping the strings would sound out the chosen alternate tuning.)

Good app, great support. For the money, this app is absolutely worth it. [alert admin]

Amazon Album Art widget 2.12 (Mac OS X)

Works better than iTunes "Get Album Artwork"

Thanks for creating this widget, it's great! 1. In iTunes, play a song without artwork. 2. Access this widget, click the little iTunes logo in the upper left corner. 3. When your artwork appears, click directly on the banner that says "Set as Album Art in iTunes" (I hit info to set my preference to change the current album, and not just the current selection) 4. Done! Additional notes: Clicking on the album artwork in the widget will launch your default browser, and take you to the Amazon page (if Amazon is set as your preference) Clicking on the grid icon in the upper right will bring up available choices if you wish to select a different album cover. coconutBattery 2.6.1 (Mac OS X)

Another new version, what's new, and where's the widget?

Not sure what's new with this version, and still no widget as part of this download. It's just the app (which works fine, btw, on my 10.5.2 MacBook Pro)(2.4 gHz) Also, I emailed the developer, about two weeks ago, and received no response. Fine. Don't come crying to me about nobody donating towards your software. [alert admin]

coconutBattery 2.6 (Mac OS X)

The widget is where...?

Maybe I'm just a moron, but I'm not seeing the widget as part of this download. I got the app fine, runs great, but after poking around, still can't find the widget! [alert admin]

Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Now it works with Leopard!

[Reposting to bring this up to the top level.] Downloaded and installed 2.0.1, hooked up my D1X, and CCP saw it and allowed control from my laptop once again. Finally! (fyi: 10.5.2 on a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo) [alert admin]

Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.0 (Mac OS X)

NOT Leopard compatible

Contrary to the above, CCP is not compatible with Leopard. I've spoken with a Nikon tech, and he stated the new version that will be compatible with Leopard will be released "soon." He then speculated that it might be in the next couple of weeks. Lessee...Leopard was released last October. November, December, January, and we are heading to week number 3 of February. Yeah, I'm frustrated... [alert admin]

Nikon Capture 4.4.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

End of Line

In case anyone is waiting for this to be Leopard-compatible, here's the short answer: It won't. I hadn't realized this, and contacted Nikon on the phone. Spoke to a tech who told me that Capture Control is terminated, and has been replaced by Capture Control Pro. And, oh yeah, as of this date (2-11-08) the tech told me that Capture Control Pro is NOT Leopard-compatible either!! Ohhhh-kay.... [alert admin]

Adobe GoLive 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Upgrading, serial number "Contact Customer Service"

Maybe I'm the only one experiencing this problem, but on Friday, I purchased, downloaded, and installed GL9. (I've been a paid registered user since the days of GoLive Cyberstudio.) Upon launch, it naturally wants my serial number--I go back and look at my email from Adobe, and instead of a serial number, it says to contact Customer Service. After two phone calls, level 1 customer service tells me I have to wait a couple of days, as there is a problem with GL9 serial numbers, and that they will send me a serial number in a couple of days. I realize I can run the software in Trial Mode, which is fine. I just hate the hassle. OK, quick story: Both phone calls included this exchange: After establishing who I am, I was asked how they could help me. I explain just the same as the first two sentences above, ending with "so I don't have a serial number." They apologize for my inconvenience and then say they can help. And they start with "Can I have your serial number please?" .... Hey Adobe, I've got a suggestion: How about training your outsourced customer service to listen to the customer, just in case they have to vary from the script?... [alert admin]

Spanning Sync 1.0b16 (Mac OS X)

Have to concur

Although the app works, and works well, I too have uninstalled it. I understand a developer wanting to get compensation for their hard work, but I feel the price is out of line. (And personally, I've never been a fan of subscription-based fees.) I'm afraid I cannot recommend this app due to it's pricing structure. [alert admin]

Adobe Illustrator CS2 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

About this 12.0.1 installer

Hey Adobe! Does a dialog box that pops up near the end of the install process and says, "Adobe Illustrator CS2 12.0.1 failed to install." mean anything to you? I just don't get it. (fyi, I am currently running 12.0.0.) Someone suggested that it might have to do with languages. Hell, I don't know. For the record, I run Macaroni to strip out unnecessary languages from my system. (10.4.2) [alert admin]
