Apple Mac OS X 10.6.1 (Mac OS X)
On top of everything keeps forgetting system preferences - I need to reconfigure trackpad preferences between 3 to 10 times a DAY. The crappy OS NEVER goes to sleep by itself - if I forget to put it to sleep good chances that I'll come back to a turned off computer with 0% battery. I am really getting tired of 10.6 and seriously start thinking of upgrading to 7 - and I mean M$ 7 ! [alert admin]

Default Folder X 4.3.2 (Mac OS X)
In this version DF doesn't try to mount remote servers when you pass over them in the DF menu. This is a great relief as I have aliases of quite a few servers in my favorite folder (the aliases are locked, otherwise they disappear when unmounted). Previously I would end up with connections to a few servers on my desktop, just because I hovered over their aliases in DF menu - in some cases it took a long time to mount these. With 4.3.2, only when I choose the server, it is being mounted. For this 5 stars to DF - again. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.6.1 (Mac OS X)
This is my second comment on 10.6.1 - the horrible ... I have a M$ bluetooth mouse as well as apple bluetooth keyboard. Both lose connection all the time - of course when the computer goes to sleep - but sometimes even when it doesn't. The bad news are that while in the bluetooth menu for the keyboard there is a "connect" option, for the mice there is only the option "open mouse preferences" where you need to re-pair the mouse in spite of the fact that the mouse was paired previously. I tried to remove the mouse and re-pair it, tried after restart with cntrl-P-R, it just doesnt work. I would love to blame M$ for that, but I know that the mouse worked nicely under 10.5, so its clearly Apple's fault and not M$. [alert admin]

KaleidaGraph 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)
When the updater asked if I want to update version 4, I responded with a "YES" and the update FAILED ! Tried 3 times, in the fourth time I responded "NO" and was led to a new fall-down menu asking me if I want to reinstall KD 4.11. Clicked "YES", the installation succeeded (the old version was replaced by the newer one), but I had to re-enter the registration code (not just the serial number). The update behaves OK, but nowhere I could find what this update is all about. [alert admin]

Sluggish, sluggish, sluggish - if it was vista, Apple would come out with a special "add" about the speed of the OS (like Billy running away from a Snow Leopard but gets stuck in deep mud called vista 10.6.1) ... wish I stayed with 10.5 [alert admin]

Picasa 3.0.6 (Mac OS X)
As usual with Google - clean, simple, fast (oh fast), and provides exactly what one needs. Downloaded and run the application, and master it within 5 short minutes. Uploaded pictures to the internet and shared them with my family for the first time in my life. This is going to be my default pictures browser from now on (and it didn't change the location of my pictures file like iPhoto did the last time I tried it). I also checked the CPU monitor - Picasa uses no more memory than Apple's mail, safari and other application (around 2.2 in ideal, going up to about 50 when activated). Regarding the data that Google collects about me - I gave up a long time ago - Google, M$, Apple and the rest of the "big brothers" know about me more than I know about myself - the point is that there is absolutely nothing that they can get from me ;-) [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 4.0 Build 3846 (Mac OS X)
re-tried Parallel's updater today and it recognized the new update 3846 (looks as if they fixed the problem). I followed the installation instructions and it worked, afterwards automatically installed the "tools". In conclusion, so far so good. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 4.0 Build 3846 (Mac OS X)
OK, so the download button in VT sends you to Parallels site and then you can loop around forever. I wasn't able to find the updater, unless the idea is that we need to download the entire package ? [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.7 (Mac OS X)
As usual before a major upgrade ... ![]()

As usual - before a release of a PAID major upgrade (10.6), apple releases a shitty upgrade with no REAL new features but with a HUGE number of BUGS. How come that a system that worked flawlessly suddenly stop recognizing my home wireless net, the bluetooth disappears, my 2.5G core 2 Duo MacBook Pro that used to lunch like a rocket starts to behave like a Window machine with the colorful spinning ball occupying more and more time, and the computer NEVER goes to sleep. I might be a paranoid, but these phenomena are so similar to those I encountered with 10.4.11 that its just amazing. [alert admin]

Default folder is the main (only is more correct) finder navigation I use, almost from the day I purchased it. It is useful from both the main menu and of course from the open/save dialogs. In fact I treat it as an extension of the OSX and can't think of an operating system without it. The new feature of expanding view of the files fits apples' new architecture like a glove. Don't remember when and how much I paid the last upgrade, but I assure you that the this is a money well spent. [alert admin]

Dear Sean, Thanks for your note, and I disabled the "application sharing" option. Please be advised that as soon as I installed parallels 4, I DID chose the WINDOW mode in the "startup and shutdown" menu. Nonetheless, whenever parallel is activated by double clicking a file that is associated with M$-windows (as opposed to starting up by choosing the Parallel application), parallels starts in coherence mode and NOT in window mode. I suppose that if this…

Have to agree with AJJX - skype sucks ! Heavy on the computer, consumes a lot of memory, but the worst part is the low voice quality and the never ending echos. Video chat frequently freezes. In fact - skype is the microsoft of the chatting world - a dinosaur that kills anything good. Luckily, Google came out with a chat/video chat of their own (through gmail). It takes a few minutes to install, it…

Doc :-) you sound as if you are one of the developers - or at least on their payroll. By the way, the price is $9 and $7 as you claim.

and Skype (for Mac, don't know for Win) sucks as well - more echos and video-freezes than words and video-streams. The only one that rules for me is Google chat which is beautifully supported by iChat !

al-bl thanks for clarifying these unclear issues. Your remarks, in addition to the little support for motorola phones and no support for LG phones, helped me make up my mind about this product (that is - I'll keep my 10 euros, and make sure that my next cellular is compatible with Apple's isync).

Netscape is a reliable and neat browser, and some M$-made pages look better in Netscape than they do in Safari. Regarding ASK.UK - why use a Google-clone when the real thing is available - thanks but "not for me"

Why indeed. I used Textures in classic (r.i.p.), was a very neat TeX editor. However, I don't recall if at that time we had any other TeX alternatives for Macs. The situation is different today and Textures developers will have to work very very ... very hard to convince me to pay $100 when I can get an awesome editor like Texshop for free (and there are other Mac editors as well, and we can…

The Germans ALWAYS do everything right and Mellel politically rubs you the wrong way. You are either extremely ignorant or one of THOSE who really believe that the Germans always did everything right. I suppose that the first choice is the right one as "it is good" in German is "es ist gut".

Printers (two of them) are connected via USB to the host MAC mini and are useable all the time from both the guest PC, the host MAC mini, as well as from the PB that uses them in a share mode. The printers are of course shared on the host MAC.
