Cooliris for Safari 1.10.1 (Mac OS X)
With the latest Safari 4 release the google search is broken, everything else seems to work fine. [alert admin]

Delicious Library 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)
This is potentially a very good program, but it lacks some basic but essential edit functionality to be really user friendly. I have a pretty large collection of cd's and while not finding it that necessary to sort it into precise named genres (Rock, Indie, Jazz etc - in my case "Popular" and "Classical would be enough, but that aside) I do find it essential to sort it alphabetically. Delicious Library has no trouble sorting the iTunes Library, but my other 'real' music library isn't consistent. You can sort at Title, Composer, Creator and Conductor etc. But this doesn't garantee you'll get the works of let's say J.S. Bach sorted together. For example: the scanned result of Bach's Mass in B, conducted by Andrew Parrot will list Bach's name under "Composer", while Bach's Christmas Oratorio conducted by Herreweghe doesn't, it names Bach under "Creator" This way you will never get things alphabetically organized. This wouldn't be a problem if you could manually drag items around in the library in any order you like or if you could edit the properties, in the case of the Mass in B disc for instance: type the name "J.S. Bach" under "Composer". Unfortunately you cannot. The scanning functionality is great when it works, but less than 40% of the library was scanned succesfully...still it is fantastic when it works, like magic. [alert admin]

ScreenShade 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Yes it takes CPU, but not much. When setting the desired brightness level it takes up to 30%, but once set you no longer need to adjust the brightness with this little app, you can simply use OSX's default brightness control. It then continuously uses 0.01% CPU, which is very low in my opinion, definitely not an issue. (Similar 'screen-shaders' like Shades or DarkAdapted take a continuous CPU of 0.5%) Two issues: Playing OSX's Chess when ScreenShade is already running, you don't see the movements of the chess pieces. You first have to quit and restart Screenshade (do not quit Chess) in order to see the animations. Making a screenshot of a window (cmd Shift 4 followed by the space bar), while Screenshade is running, you cannot select a window and still making a shot results in a blank image. You have to quit Screenshade in order to work. A full desktop screenshot (Cmd Shift 4) works without any problems. [alert admin]

Quicksilver 1.0b54 (Mac OS X)
There's a simple solution to the unmounting trouble: when the Quicksilver file is downloaded you'll notice it is called QS.3815.dmg.bz2. Rename it by removing ".bz2" and you'll be able to unmount the diskimage. Great app by the way, though I don't think I'll use it much... [alert admin]

Shades 1.2b1 (Mac OS X)
Great app and low CPU usage while running (an avarage of 0,05%) But when Shades is actively used, for instance when I'm logging into my system and Shades starts or when altering a setting, the CPU usage is HUGE, with peaks of 48% CPU!! (2.4 Ghz intel processor) I know it is only for a short period (1 - 2 seconds) but losing almost 50% of the CPU simply can't be a good thing. [alert admin]

Stella 2.2 (Mac OS X)
I first tried the version 2.2 but didn't work on OSX Leopard, then I tried the latest version, 2.4.2 and it seemed to work very well. If I couldn't control a certain game I just went to the game-properties and chose keyboard and everything worked fine. I loved it! Every game worked fine until I loaded Frogger, which I couldn't get to response in any way, from then on things no longer worked. River Raid for instance: when I start a new game the plane steers right and crashes, I cannot control it. Very weird because I hadn't changed any settings. No matter what I do, nothing works. Pole Position, I can press left or right as much as I like, the car can no longer be controlled. I deleted Stella's preference file, got rid of Frogger and even downloaded a new River Raid en Pole Position Rom. I cleaned all user cashes, repaired the permissions, I even did a virus check, restarted my iMac numerous times and re-installed Stella. Nothing!! It won't work. Crap! [alert admin]

True, but it works, it definitely softens the bright straining glow and from difficult viewing angles it makes whites (which have a tendency to turn yellowish) whiter. About the CPU usage: When altering the brightness with this program the CPU goes up, 30% CPU max, for a second, but once you have set the desired brightness (or better darkness) with this program, the program doesn't use any CPU* And with this new set brightness level you no…

It happened to me as well. BUT: if you had read about the shortkeys you wouldn't have gone through the trouble: alt-escape restores the brightness, shuts down Shades.

UPDATE: I didn't give up. I searched for Stella's invisible files on my hard disk and actually found a folder with game properties saves. Deleted them and now the games work fine again. I still don't know what happened.
