Camino 1.6.3 (Mac OS X)

Thank goodness for Version Tracker!

So, VT has Camino 1.6.3 available. Great. Two questions: what happened to 1.6.2, and why didn't 1.6.1 offer me either update even though the preference setting is set to have it do so? [alert admin]

LoginControl 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Nice to have this facility back.

I was displeased when Apple took this sequencing control away from us when they brought out Tiger. Kudos to the developer for putting the user back in charge! [alert admin]

FontDoc 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)

Nice Little Niche App

Not something I'll be running every day but the perfect solution when wanting to choose a "new" font. Works very nicely and is pleasantly free of bells & whistles. [alert admin]

iTunes Library Check 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Disappointingly limited

Without support for anything other than the developer's view of "default" iTunes use, the usefulness of this application is rather limited. If it did as little more as allow an alternative location for the music folder to be specified it would be much better. [alert admin]

Data Rescue II 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Indispensible Product

This is my recovery software of choice. I have purchased copies both for work and home use. Worked a charm on a crashed server boot disk at work and to recover a camera full of photos accidentally deleted from the SD card at home. Absolutely a life saver: would not be without it and well worth the price. [alert admin]

iConiCal 1.1 (Mac OS X)

This is great!

Does just what it should and no more. Seems pretty solid. Now a fixture in my Login Items. Many, many thanks to the developer for doing such a nice job on a little niche improvement to the Mac experience! [alert admin]

BBC Radio Widget 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Just great!

This little wonder is in constant use. It just works. I love software you can say that about! [alert admin]

GetArtwork 1.4.1 (Mac OS X)

Completely Broken

If this ever worked, it certainly doesn't now. This is on a G4 iBook with a fully up-to-date 10.3.9 OS. Should be removed from Version Tracker as it's a complete waste of time. How it ever got 4 stars I'll never know. [alert admin]

Girc 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Nice Little Gadget

I really like Girc! With iTunes hidden or minimised I keep this in a cornerof the screen to tell me what's playing. The new version (1.3) has finally fixed a bug which meant it wouldn't finish loading on my wife's machine: works just fine for her too now! [alert admin]

Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28.0 (Mac OS X)

Won't install - even after repairing permissions

So-called Universal Binary version on Core Duo Mac mini running 10.4.8 Installer fails with two files left to install saying I don't have permission for the install. As the only user on the machine, I wonder who does. Repairing permissions on the drive makes no difference to the installer's behaviour. A waste of time all round! [alert admin]

Tiger Users Abandoned

Agreed. It's a bummer. Especially as the developer still lists OS 10.4 among the supported versions on Version Tracker. Since you can't trust the list of supported OS's I wonder if, even if I upgraded to Leopard, I'd be able to run it on a PPC Mac. Shame. It was a good application while it lasted.

Getting Error Message

Are you sure you have the necessary version of Mac OS? I recall getting messages like that on Panther when opening .dmgs that rely on new features of Tiger. As this is a Tiger-only application, maybe that's what's happing to you.

Umm

If you do a "Save As..." on the page of gobbledigook, the resulting .zip file unpacks OK.

Thanks for following up your own comment! I was about to give this update a miss as I'm on 10.3.9 everywhere myself.

VERY nice except

Thanks for alerting me to this issue. With this "feature" on board, I certainly won't be downloading this baby!

Very Promising

For me, it's a non-starter without selectable page sizes. No point even downloading it. Developer, please take note!

PHONES HOME!....why!!!

Thanks for the explanation. You'll appreciate why in these days people are wary of software that they find has unadvertised features that might threaten system security. You might consider having the update check OFF by default, with a check box to enable it if desired.
