TechTool Pro 4.0.6 (Mac OS X)

TechTool Pro 4.0.6 Upgrade CD Doom!!..!. D O O M !

TTP 4.0.6 G3 Danger! For years I had purchased and used numerous MicroMat products and thought that they were the "cats meow". I should have listened those who indicated just to use MacJanitor and Apple's Disk Utility to repair the permissions for routine maintenance and my Blue and white 400mHz G3 would still be up and running Mac OS X 10.4.2. It seems that the only problems encountered running this OS on the G3 were caused by TTP 4.0.1 through TTP 4.0.6! TTP 4.0.4 installed on the G3 would not upgrade to TTP 4.0.5 because, MictroMat techs told me, that the eDrive whichTTP 4 now installs needs more disk space than the amount the original CD of TTP 4.0.1 partitioned off on installation of the eDrive. The TTP 4.0.1 CD also booted up on OS 10.2, which is not compatible with OS 10.4. The amount of free HD space required for TTP 4.0.5 was at lease 4GB. My DiskSpace program indicated that I had 4.5GB of free disk space back when the TTP 4.0.5 update arrived. The MicroMat rep indicated that I needed a new updated TTP 4 CD which had both the disk boot OS and the TTP4 program updated. The updated TTP 4.0.6 CD cost me an additional $31.84 and was to arrive in the first week of October. It arrived a week later than promised. My G3 was running fine on the arrival of the CD. MacJanitor and Apple's Disk Utility worked well and there were no problems until I booted from the TTP 4.0.6 CD. After using the install program to uninstall the old TTP4 (which did not remove the old eDrive) and going through their complete intense battery of tests, with the CD being used to remove the old eDrive and to reinstall the new eDrive. TTP 4.0.6 indicated a successful installation. Now the G3 will not boot from its HD. The Apple appears and the loading process wheel continues spinning, and spinning, and spinning....only to be halted by pressing the emergency reset button. Apple's First Aid Disk Utility indicates that there is now an "Invalid B-Tree Header" that "cannot be repaired". This is written in red! I have encountered no problems at all running Mac OS X 10.4.2 until putting TTP 4 to use. This review is being written on my second computer, a G4 Powerbook, that I am keeping as far from TTP4 as possible! G3 Danger! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK with OS 10.4.2 on a G3! For the person who would like to see a positive comment, I would too! When a product is exceptionally good, I enjoy letting others know. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.5 (Mac OS X)

TechTool Pro 4.0.5 Updater.app Nightmare

BEWARE OF THIS UPDATE! TechTool Pro 4.0.4 was great on my 400 MHz PowerPC G3 running Mac OS X 10.4.2. BEWARE OF THIS UPDATE! When I downloaded and installed the update to TechTool Pro 4.0.5 the eDrive opened, but the "eDrive TechTool Pro 4 application" would no longer function. It would not open, even though it opened on my hard drive which opened the eDrive. When I attempted to restart, it rebooted to the eDrive. The System Preferences button in the upper tool bar was non functional. Fortunately "Disk Utilities" on the dock opened, as did "StartUp Disk" which allowed me to escape the program and reboot to my hard drive. When I emailed Micromat at what was previously a support email address, it bounced back. On going to support on the web site, my name and address was already entered in the support base, but it told me that I could not get support, since I had not registered the product. If that were the case, where did they get the demographic information? The product was ordered and mailed to me directly by Micromat! I reregistered the product. They got my demographic information when I originally registered TechTool Pro 4. Still no assistance after reregistration. I have owned three different Micromat programs, and even a Micromat external hard drive. This update would lead me to warn those whose earlier version is working well not to update it. Beware of installing this update! I read several negative reviews and installed it any way, since I was a long time Micromat product user. How naive. Such grief. BEWARE OF THIS UPDATE! [alert admin]

HP OfficeJet D series 6.3.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Thanks to  "eugeneois", with persistance I got it to work.

Thanks to  "eugeneois", with great persistence I got it to work. After unclicking ""Open "safe" windows after downloading"" on attempting to open the file, a message instructed me that I need Stuffit 8.0 or above to open it. After updating the Stuffit, if you had a previous version of the Hp driver, use Hp Uninstall to remove any fragments of any previously installed Hp series d driver. This took quite a while for the uninstall to occur. The listing in "Force Quit" showed that the uninstaller was having difficulty. After forcing it to quit and trying again I just left it for quite a time, and found upon returning that the uninstall was successful. After the first installation attempt, the program could not locate the printer on the USB. After uninstalling again, and reinstalling, the program finally discovered the printer on the USB and seems to be working well. [alert admin]

Bushisms 2.1 (Mac OS X)

I AGREE! It is Funny, Useful and Free! Uncensored!

A delightful script for those of us frustrated by the repressive bumbler and his hypocritical regime of less government via increased censorship! A suggestion for Zonkers who wrote "Would be nice" byzonkerz: Immediately on downloading place the "BushismsFolder" in the folder entitled Library and if clicking on the BushisimsApplescript Icon does not place a "Bushism" at the bottom of your "Mail", then return to library, duplicate the "BushismsFolder" and drag a copy into "Home" and when your user Home opens up drag the "BushismsFolder" copy into the library folder there. You can have a copy of the "Bushisms" Applescript on the desktop or in the conntol bar, or both, if you like. [alert admin]

Epson Scanners TWAIN 5.75 (Mac OS X)

Agreed. Epson is…

doing a poor job at Macintosh support for OS X. I also am frustrated at the lack of support for the Perfection 636U scanner. The Epson driver for the Stulus Color 900 printer still sucks, and intermittantly causes me printing problems while runing OS 10.2! [alert admin]

Epson Stylus Color 900 6.3BE (Mac OS 9)

This program really…

needs work. My OS is X v10.1. I have allready talked to an Epson Tech Rep., a nice person in Canada, but the problem pops again each time I try to print in the Classic mode I get a print error message suggesting that I turn the printer on and off again. That doesn't help. The rep then had me go into the Print Center and delete any pending jobs. Then I had to delete the selected Epson 900 printer and have the computer search the USB ports to come up with the very same printer choice, then sometimes I am able to print. For what was an expensive printer, Epson has done a poor job on its OS X software driver for this printer. Epson also has no update driver for its Perfection 636U scanner! These items may be the last I purchase from Epson unless they make a marked turn around in their software support for their products. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.5 Updater.app Nightmare

9/14/05 Peter of the Micromat Inc. Technical Support Team told me that the reason I have suffered Update-malfunction grief, is that the original TTP 4.0 installer CD that I purchased installed Mac OS X 10.2 on my eDrive. He indicated that I needed to purchase a new TTP 4 installation CD that would remove the earlier installed eDrive and install a new one with a larger 5 GB partition. The installed Mac OS…
