JollysFastVNC 0.96.42 build 1890 (Mac OS X)
crashes at launch, 10.4.11, PPC
Title says it all pretty much. I have the crash log, but the developer provides no feedback link on his site. Normally I like this app, but it obviously wasn't tested very well this time. It appears to be incompatible with previous prefs... removing the plist file allows it to launch, but only one bookmark is available. I will have to recreate all the bookmarks/favorites I had. Not good. [alert admin]

And furthermore, for me there is no difference in the basic, detailed, or highly detailed level of program output. And still more... this thing phones home every startup, with no way to turn it off in prefs (Little Snitch to the rescue). What is it doing exactly... version check... or something more sinister? I'll check it out again at v4 or so. 2.1 is waaaay too far away from anything useful. [alert admin]

TiVoDecode Manager 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Feedback to author re 0-byte file downloads
Tivo Series 2 does not support multiple downloads. If you in any way start a new download while an earlier download is in any way still in progress, the earlier download will fail and leave a 0-byte file on the computer, while the newer download proceeds. Been there done that during my Direct Show dump days. I suspect the reports here about 0-byte files are exactly this, and can be fixed by tweaking the download queue. [alert admin]

NetworkLocation 1.0 (Mac OS X)
OK, I've been looking for something like this. Unfortunately, it's not quite there for my taste. I should have known that when I saw John Welch slipping all over his self-serving drool. What a 'tard. For now, I'll forgive the oversight :-) On the good side, there is a pref to not have it appear in the menu bar. Thank you. Also good, a key-stroke to bring it to the front. This is where it falls short IMO. I frankly want this to be able to supplant Apple's command-tab, which I personally never use. But that is being trapped by the OS, so Apple is unlikely to make it easy for any outside programmer to write their own trap for that keystroke. Lacking that , I'd like to see a defined keystroke be able to cycle through all the locations (a la command-tab). Do that and you have a winner (and a license payment from me). [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 2.2.1898.0 (Mac OS X)
I have a MacBook 2GHz + 2GB also, but I did not see any of the issues reported by toddsnc below. Over the releases so far, I have seen from time to time a weird thing where Parallels cannot be unhidden and has to be killed. Can't find recipe though. All in all, it works well for me, through 1898. Biggest issues I see are the USB[2] abstraction and lack of 2-core support. Go Team Parallels. [alert admin]

Samurai 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I'll refrain from giving it 1 star, because it's hard to recover from bad reviews. This app wants to phone home on launch. If you deny it, it will die. Apparently it needs a resource from the home planet to run. I'll wait for a complete piece of software, rather than having to go get the magic key. It's freeware, after all... [alert admin]

Spamnix 3.0.27 (Mac OS X)
I'm still trying to get Eudora to launch after the Spamnix install, using 10.4.4 8G14. Clearly others running Tiger 10.4.3 are having the same problems. New Eudora prefs does not fix; I've found a couple of Spamnix components and tossed them, still no good. How much time will I have wasted getting my e-mail back? Too early to tell. Even if the developer claims to fix it, I will never try it again. [alert admin]

you think their web site's entertaining?
Check out their forums. Aside from the numerous posts about whatever happened to the developer and "where's the beta?", there are some just plain amusing threads there. [alert admin]
