CONSIDEO MODELER 3.0.4 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
The freeware software that you get, although fully functional, is limited to 10 records! The single license is over $180. This should be re-categorized as commercial with a demo. [alert admin]

Acquisition 2.0v206 (Mac OS X)
For no apparent reason after about 20 minutes or so, Acquisition 2.0 just disconnects. I have to quit, wait a few minutes, and relaunch. And the cycle repeats. This is beyond frustrating. I thought that with my recent installation of FIOS and the subsequent higher bandwidth I could expect more stability, but that is obviously not the case. The developer's FAQ does not address this issue. [alert admin]

Acquisition 2.0v206 (Mac OS X)
Well, it looks like the new filtering improvements include connections....just like in version 204, the connections are dropping off again after a few minutes. Unfortunately I stupidly forgot to keep a copy of v205. [alert admin]

Inquisitor 3.0 (v49) (Mac OS X)
I had been using Inquisitor successfully with Safari 3.x while in Tiger for the last month or so. However, this version (v49) is not functioning at all once I upgraded to Leopard. I've installed the bundle in InputManagers folders both at my user level as well as the computer level. Any thoughts? [alert admin]

Acquisition 2.0v200 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Acquisition for years and I did receive an email from the developer with the new activation. While I've been reasonably content with the older versions, v.2 don't keep a connection for longer than 30 seconds! Anyone having similar problems? [alert admin]

Scrabble 1.0.1.4 (Mac OS X)
Nice look and feel, with a lot of handy items like the dictionary, hints, etc. Only bug I've run across so far is that the program doesn't change your personal rating regardless of how many games you win against the computer opponent. An email to the developer has gone without response. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 3.0.2b (Mac OS X)
I just upgraded to 3.0.2b after being pleased with the initial Safari 3 release and to my surprise see that something has happened to the font rendering, especially for bold fonts. This is particularly pronounced on Version Tracker's site since it uses the black bold font for its titles. I'm not sure what the font name is (it's used everywhere--for example, the word "Search" at the top right hand corner of every page). I didn't make any changes or preference alternations between upgrades. Anyone else experience this? [alert admin]

MacGourmet 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Hands down the best recipe software for OS X ![]()

I've used MacGourmet since its inception and am continually looking at other Mac-based recipe programs as a basis for reference. MG has continually improved over the years and its consistent interface, adhering to the Mac "look and feel" has made using it intuitive and simple. The shopping lists, ease of creating subfolders, etc. all make it as robust as you can want. However, it really shines when it comes to importing recipes from other sources. Its import service was always very good, but the latest release which provides for url-based importing from the most popular recipe sources such as Epicurious, Williams-Sonoma, etc. is unparalleled! Everything is captured, including recipe photos, and put into the appropriate fields in the recipe! Finally, Michael is very accessible and responsive to requests while being careful to sensible software release standards. [alert admin]

Structured PDF from Entourage Message 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Am I missing something here--how is this app better than just printing the email to PDF using OS X's built in PDF maker? This app requires Adobe Acrobat in order to function (at least that's what I inferred from the system requirements list)--not an inexpensive option. [alert admin]

I've used MG for years and I agree that it's great. As for printed recipes: assuming you have a scanner that includes OCR software, that's the way to go. It's certainly more of a hassle than the website imports, but doable. Depending on the quality of the scan and OCR, you will have to do some clean up. Just save the file as a text document, select the text, and import…

They stay up longer than in the previous releases, but still get dropped after about 15-20 minutes. I agree that the search starting anew everytime you click on a search name is different but not harmful. I find it odd that you can't adjust column widths anymore.

Am I missing something about the Growl notification? I was expecting it to work in the background in lieu of having to turn on the dashboard. Instead, it notifies only when I'm showing the Woot widget. Perhaps it's working correctly, but then I fail to see the advantage of the Growl integration. Might as well just have the widget operating. Am I doing something wrong?

I wiped out all the Acq related files again, including the plist prefs and now the connections seem to be holding up (at least for the last five minutes).

Don't stay connected--even worse now
Great--just loaded release 201. Now I don't get ANY kind of connection (at least with the first release I got connections for about a minute or two!) And yes, I did delete all Acquisition-related files.

Tried both your suggestions (increased the number of connections after completing deleting all Acquisition-related files). Reinstalled. Saw it load new Gnutella components. Stayed up a little longer--maybe 5-7 minutes and then disconnected. This did not happen with the pre-2.0 version. No response from the author either.

I reverted back to version 3.0 to see if there was any change and, not surprisingly, whatever happened to the fonts during the 3.0.2b upgrade has now screwed up 3.0 for me as well. Not sure where to go from here. Does anyone know the font name used by VersionTracker for the most of the titles? (for example, the names of the software titles in the list of new or updated apps--shown…

Peppermint: I tried it (with high hopes), but unfortunately while I did identify duplicates, nothing changed in the way the text was being displayed. BTW, this is specific to Safari, because the VersionTracker page displays just fine using Camino.

Only one picture allowed...disappointing, unusable for me
It's always interesting to learn what makes other people's boat float. While I agree that the ability to add multiple pictures would be a nice to have, for me personally that isn't enough to offset all of the other features! I get around the single-graphic limitation by grouping them into a single image using an app--in my case, Graphic Converter, but there are many others. For me, the only item that is…
