Media Library 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Fugly

I really am looking for this type of program but after seeing the screenshot I just couldn't pull the trigger and download it. Note to developer: When it comes to GUI, simpler is better. Customers want performance not eyecandy. To see an example of great GUI look at the NewsFire application. Beautiful in it's simplicity. [alert admin]

Suitcase Fusion 12.0 (Mac OS X)

The "Frankenstein" of Font Managers

Apparently, Extensis took all the bad parts of Font Reserve and mashed them into Suitcase. This "fusion" causes CONfusion when it comes to managing fonts. Put this app in a dark quiet place and walk away from it. Try FontAgent Pro or the FREE Linotype FontExplorer X. Either one of these solutions should work just fine for you. [alert admin]

Kodak EasyShare 5.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Registration just to TRY the software?

I can't believe that even to download and try out the software you have to register with Kodak. THEY want ME to use their software (ultimately to print photos and buy stuff) yet they make me jump through hoops to get it? Forget that! I'll stick with iPhoto. [alert admin]

FontCatalog 1.6 (Mac OS X)

I would LOVE for this to work but...

I just get the spinning rainbow of doom upon trying to open the app. It does some sort of scanning and then just spins. The previous version worked for me but needed improvement so I was excited about this update but it clearly has some issues. Keep at it, developers! I think you've got a great idea. Once the kinks are worked out it'll be great. I wish other font managers had this categorizing feature. [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 3.0 (Mac OS X)

The best so far.

I've used ALL the font management apps and found all of them lacking. I had been a FontAgent user a long time ago (back when it was called FontBox and then the first iteration of it under the FontAgent moniker. But I switched to Suitcase because it was better (AT THAT TIME). Since then Insider Software has released FontAgent Pro 3.0 which is now a fully mature font management app. I'd been frustrated with the tendency of Suitcase to frequently corrupt my fonts and improperly "fix" them. So, I was using a combo of Suitcase and Morrison SoftDesign's FontDoctor. That was an improvement but still I was continually facing degradation of font integrity. FontAgentPro has built-in font repair and MUCH better system-wide auto-activation than Suitcase. It does take a LOOOONG time to load but since it doesn't have to be actively open to auto-activate fonts (unlike Suitcase which ALWAYS has to be running) that's not a big issue. I especially like the Photoshop auto-activation feature. Suitcase just doesn't offer that. I do have to admit I like the user interface of Suitcase better. It is simpler and just looks better but that isn't a deal-breaker. Since using FontAgent Pro I've haven't had any new fonts go buggy on me. All-in-all font management is still a BIG hassle in OS X but at least with FontAgent Pro it is bearable. Now, if FontAgent only offered a way to print font sample books of UNOPENED fonts that worked (can anybody do this? Only Lemke's FontBook comes close) and a way to classify font by their types (display, script, etc.) then I'd be an absolutely satisfied customer. [alert admin]

Apple Security Update 2005-002 (Mac OS X)

Security updates

Did you ever think that these updates aren't due to "problems" existing in the code but due to newly developed methods of "attacks" by hackers? I'm glad they continue to update security in the OS. And it isn't like updating the software is some great obstacle to overcome. Software Update handles it all. So why complain? [alert admin]

Autographer 3.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Too expensive

I'm with spacebrother. This is WAAAAY overcharged. You could get any number of basic hosting accounts for less than $10/month and a similar freeware program. It's a good product but the pricing is too high. [alert admin]

Clutter 1.0b2 (Mac OS X)

My wishlist

I wish it could sort the floating covers alphabetically and arrange them in a grid to fill up the desktop. That would look reall cool plus it would take the "clutter" out of Clutter. [alert admin]

Melancholytron 1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Great filter! If you're looking for an effect to mimick Lomos

This filter creates images that look a lot like photos taken with the Russian-made Lomo camera. I use it a lot to add character to an otherwise bland photo. [alert admin]

FYI - Tutorial won't load

Developer - At the opening window it suggests the user go thru the tutorial but when I click on the tutorial button it gives an error message saying tutorial cannot be found. [alert admin]
