Transmission 1.11 (Mac OS X)

System freezes

Transmission has been a fantastic program for me until v1.11. Now every time I use it, eventually my Mac freezes (usually within a few hours), and I have no choice but to power off and restart again. Going to try reverting back to v1.10 and hopefully that'll fix it for now. FYI I have an iMac 2.4GHz running 10.5.2. [alert admin]

DVDpedia 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

A good upgrade

I've been using DVDpedia for over a year and a half now, and it's been getting better and better since. I decided to pay the $9 upgrade fee yesterday and had a good play with it. The interface is nice and snappy compared with previous versions, and the new Info window is stylish and useful. Unfortunately, the Get Advanced Info For Selection feature for ezydvd.com.au (as I'm in Australia) still doesn't work, but others do, so I get by. The ability to export to .Mac will be great (once I renew by .Mac membership), and the search feature seems much faster (and works properly now) too. Also, the statistics feature is interesting to have a look at, so be sure to check it out! Something I noticed that would be nice, is the ability to modify one particular field for all selected items, such as to remove the price field of all movies. Basically just something to make mass changes, as the info pulled from amazon for example, may not be correct, or you may not care about knowing what subtitles your movie has. Reason why is that these fields take up additional space in the Info window, and aren't necessary for me anyway. A bit annoying that I have to pay for the upgrade, when pretty much all other shareware app's give you a few years (or lifetime) free upgrades. But considering how useful this app is to me, $9 isn't that much. I'm just glad that they're still looking after it, fixing things, adding new features. It'd be an absolute pain if they abandoned the software, and eventually I had to biuld up my (several 100 DVD) collection in another program. If that peace of mind costs me $9, so be it. All in all, a good upgrade. [alert admin]

DVD Cache .351 (Mac OS X)

Very promising little app

A sensational additional to the world of freeware. I have a collection of 150 DVD's, and previously I would have to copy and paste from each of the respective IMDB pages into an AppleWorks database file to keep a nice little catalog of what I have. This app does the same thing in just a few seconds, and brings the pictures along too. There are still many bugs, such as the Cast is not brought in in some cases (such as Star Trek: The Motion Picture), can't sort by columns (year, director, etc.) and doing a search on some titles gives duplicates ("Die Hard" gives duplicates of all 3 films - all seems to have identical information). If the developer would like a personalized report, complete with discovered bugs and suggestions, please post a response to this post. Thanks [alert admin]
