Miro 1.2.4 (Mac OS X)

Miro is a 2 star app that could be five stars with a little TLC

First the pluses I like about Miro: 1. It still runs nicely under Tiger 2. It still runs nicely under older PPC hardware 3. It has a decent RSS and Torrent side to it. But, for all of that, Miro is plagued by even the most simplest of things that most users pull their hair out and say, "WTF?" "it CAN'T DO THAT?!?" Here is a list of top ten things that Miro needs to make it a 5 star app: 10. Drag and Drop files directly into a Playlist. I'm sorry, but iTunes has spoiled us, and the fact that you have to insanely drag and drop onto the Miro icon ( no where else) and the videos then have to be "add to Library" link checked to add, is ridiculous!! HEllo! I want to add videos that's why I d&D'd them in the fist place! 9. Organize Playlist by AlphaNumeric. Drag six videos all correctly named and numbered into a playlist from the library, and watch Miro freak out and put them in random order. again, c'mon....! 8. Be able to select the Playlist and just initiate playback. Again iTunes lets you select a list, hit play, you get the list playing in order. Paying attention yet....? 7. Be able to have the videos play one after another without remembering to set a preference flag. 6. Ability to Syncronize Playlist Folders to content. Add some content to a watched folder in Miro, make Miro add that content to the matching Playlist. 5. Play all files from the start of the file, or at least give us the option. Miro plays where you left off in a file you last played, or if the file is a stitch together QT refrence movie, made up of say three smaller files pasted one after the other, it picks the last stitch in the QT file and plays from there. Hello! treat it as a new file, and play from the beginning. 4. Turn off BitTorrent and make it so we have to turn it on at first launch of the app. It is on by default, and nothing like putting Miro on an older PPC box and watching it choke because it's too busy trying to torrent, when you just want to set up playlists of your own content. 3. Give us Google search instead of YouTube Search. Miro's youtube search sucks @$$...it can't find the same file within 10 mins of searching. Trash it, and just enable Google search within Miro. Just like Safari, a little Google search bar that we can use to find our content on Youtube faster and easier. 2. When You create a new Playlist, have the Playlist organize in Alpha-Numeric Order! nothing like having a playlist called "Zebra Fun" and then create a new playlist called "Bat-Thing Playhouse" and the "B" playlist just jumps in behind the "Z" playlist. again, iTunes spoiled us on this.....You create a new Playlist, iTunes alpha-numeric organizes the Playlists. Even an option click to just "Sort Playlist by Name" would be sufficient!!! and the #1 thing: Make Miro play Video_TS folders on the Hard Drive! Even if you have to incorporate VLC!!!!!!! MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)

For all Those who Have Problems / Concerns

First, the free ride is over. MTR 2.66 is a great app, but to keep up with the ever changing technology that the movie studios employ for "protecting their investment". you need MTR v. 3.0. MTR 2.66 is obsolete, will never be patched, time to put it to bed. Second, MTR v.3.0 does work correctly under Tiger and Leopard provided you have a valid license file. Copies off of newsgroups and P2P don't work, and the more legitimate users see you guys posting this app, the more we turn you in to the developer and the developer disables licenses and enacts tougher licensing requirements next go around. Why no audio? here's a hint:Audio is present in a properly licensed version of the app. on Tiger, on Leopard, on PPC or on an Intel Mac. Third, The minimum donation of US $40 is high. Blame Bush and Cheney and the weak @$$ American Dollar. Blame all the people who would rather steal the app and repost it on P2P and NG than pay for a legit copy. Two million downloads of the free v 2.66 and the guy didn't get one dime. Why shouldn't he charge for the next version? He's got to eat just like anybody else. MTR is slick, fast and plays well with other DVD Apps such as DVD2ONEX and Toast Titanium to produce playable backups of your precious collections. $40 is peanuts compared to replacing three DVDs at $15 a pop. Flash Video Downloader 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)

FOR THE AUTHOR!

on your page , in your screenshots you say: "how can I play this once I downloaded it?" You give two excellent choices, converting with ffmpegx or playing in VLC or MPlayer. BUT, YOU FORGOT A THIRD IMPORTANT ONE>>>> if you install Perian 0.5 codec, you can then play the files NATIVELY in Quicktime Player, and if you have Quicktime Pro, with the Perian 0.5 codec installed, you can then Edit and Export NATIVELY out of Quicktime Pro to any other format, thereby cutting ou the need for ffmpegx. You should consider adding this to your software, as this is a helpful tidbit for all. [alert admin]

Thoth 1.8.0 (Mac OS X)

This is disenheartening to hear...

THat one of the best apps EVER for the Mac cannot move forward into the 21st Century, due to the fact that no one responded to a simple question via email! I've enjoyed THOTH over the years, and version 1.72, registered and paid for, although creaking every now and again under Tiger, continues to work hard. It is what a solid mac app is: never crash prone, runs stable, and does what is advertised. The fact that we will never see it ported to OSX is a sad sign of yet another app that has fallen due to lack of support via the mac community. Along with Typestyler, Fontographer, and Adobe Streamline, We will miss THOTH in all it accomplished for us on a daily basis. Kudos to you Brian Clark, for creating one of the best mac apps ever, and I won't give up on Thoth being developed for Leopard! I just can't... this is too great an app much needed for the Mac OSX platform! [alert admin]

TitleLab 0.5b1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Export to DVD Studio Pro broken

When exporting to DVDStudio Pro, it taggs the file as an .txt file. In trying to open the file, DVD Studio Pro says "unsupported file type". Re-tagging the file to .stl doesn't help either. And the Website URL seems to be broken as well, so no help from developer? [alert admin]

Audiocorder 4.2.1 (Mac OS X)

Better to get Audio Hijack Pro than this.

Audio Hijack Pro has several more features and abilities that make it hads and shoulders above this app. Besides having only a one time fee to purchase, ( minor updates are free, major only $10)AHP has several other nifty features like recording to Mp3 in various degrees of quality ( 96kbps-448kbps), it can capture audio from ANY app, it can capture audio from DVD Player, Real, VLC, and WMP9. Audio Hijack Pro 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Joolsy the NOOB did you demux the mpeg's first?

Why would you need to use AHP if you had mpeg files? Only someone who was a total NOOB would have known that if you have the raw mpeg files, you would use ffmpegx to demux back to streams, then, provided the audio was in spec, just import directly into iMovie. Were the mpegs actually within part of a VCD/SVCD? Or did you MEAN to say VOB, as in part of a DVD? Sounds like if you spent more time learning what YOU HAVE FIRST, then you could have easily figured out how to get your end result. That being said, AHP works wonderfully. If you need to CAPTURE audio from DVDs, SVCDS, VCDS, it can capture and allow you to set the bitrates and mode of encoding quite easy, it does take some brain power to figure out what you want the end result to be, but once you have that you can get there rather easily. It also records audio from streaming webcasts, streaming radio, audio from crappy WMV, ASF and AVI files, and can record audio from any app that plays sound on your mac. Nuff said! [alert admin]

Adobe Illustrator CS 11.0.2 (Mac OS X)

If it ain't broke, don't upgrade it.

Following along the lines of last week's Mac OS X 10.3.7 update, if your version of Illustrator CS works fine for you, don't upgrade it. It's that simple, and Adobe, you should be ashamed for releasing a pitiful updater--Updaters for Indesign CS work great, Acrobat 6, why not Illustrator? [alert admin]

How to get latest mactheripper for free and how to load it

and that's why the next version will require a constant internet connection to use the app, so that the licensing server will be able to tell who's pirating and who's not.... don't you morons EVER learn?

Beware of this developer

When I hear of stories like yours, I wonder to myself: "Why did the person spend so much energy ranting on how bad the app was, instead of going and getting a better and ease to use app?" There are TONS of software developers who make really good products, and have excellent Customer Service. Try spending more useful energy getting a better app that suits your needs, instead of wasting time extolling the bad about this devloper/app. for the record I use Azureus, and…

Monsters Inc

On Disney Pixar discs, you must watch the WHOLE disc first on your Mac, to obtain ALL CSS KEYS. Disney notoriously uses diffrent keys for diffrent segments: The trailers, extras, specials, and movie all have diffrent keys. I have done so, and have made a complete backup that works. This has also been verified in www.dvdrhelp.com
