Apple Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Mac OS X)
Serious Finder problem still not fixed
We recently purchased a new (late 2009) iMac with 10.6.1 pre-installed. It is unusable (with our set up) as the Finder continuously crashes. However, when booted from an external drive running 10.5.8, all works well. Seeing that this issue effected others (see: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2135129&start=0&tstart=0), we were hoping that the 10.6.2 update would fix this issue. Unfortunately, it didn't. We're now seriously considering erasing the main drive and downgrading our new iMac to 10.5.8 permanently (or at least until there is a 10.6.x upgrade that is guaranteed to solve this issue). We clearly won't be updating any of our other Macs (including our Server) to 10.6 any time soon. [alert admin]

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Frequently causes Windows XP to crash ![]()

I've used RDC version 1.0.x from a PPC Mac with no issue. However, this version doesn't run well from an Intel Mac. With the update to version 2.0.0, I found it ran well from an Intel Mac, but from either a PPC or Intel Mac, frequently causes a computer running XP to crash when attempting to login (about once out of every three or four connections). The same issue exists for version 2.0.1. The solution I've found that works best is CoRD (works well on both PPC and Intel Macs and doesn't cause XP to crash). [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.11 (Mac OS X)
AFP issue: 3.0.11 doesn't work properly if user directory is located on remote server
I have my home directory at a remote location (on an XServe running OS X Server via AFP). Firefox 3.0.10 works fine. When I updated to 3.0.11, I saw that my Bookmarks were blank, history menu was black, the Search field was generic and didn't work, entering a url into the access field and hitting return doesn't respond. These functions seem to work if I login to a local account with home directory on main drive, but not on any home directory located on a remote drive. When I downgraded to 3.0.10, all is fine again. NeoOffice 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Unable to install NeoOffice 3.0 PPC
Installation went part of the way and then stopped and the error message: "Install Failed. The source media you are installing from is damaged". I tried downloading from 2-3 alternative mirror sites, with the same result. I was able to install version 2.5 and the latest patch again without issue. This is on a G5 dual 2.5 PowerMac. I also downloaded the Intel version 3.0 and was able to install that on a MacBook without issue. [alert admin]

Firefox 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Firefox 3 appears to have issues with user accounts not located on the main drive. At the very least it cannot deal with a network user account being located on a remote OS X Server. When I updated to Firefox 3, I immediately noticed that Bookmarks were not visible under bookmarks menu. The Search engine field had a generic icon and when I selected 'Manage Search Engines', the dialog box was frozen and I couldn't get out of it without quitting Firefox. When I tried to enter a URL into the URL field and press 'enter', nothing happens. However, when double-click on a URL in an e-mail message, that appears to work. I initially ran Firefox 3 on a client Mac OS X 10.5.3. My home directory (and thus my Firefox profile) is on an XServe running OS X 10.5.3 Server. When I switched to a local admin account (i.e., Firefox profile on the local hard drive), it seems to work fine. However, when I switch back to my network home account (on our XServe), it still displays the problems described above. I tried other user accounts on our XServe with the same problems. Downgrading to Firefox2 solved the problems with no apparent permanent damage to the Firefox user profile. As is, Firefox3 is completely unusable for my set up. I'll stay with Firefox2 until this is resolved. [alert admin]

Periodic maintenance scripts not running on XServe
I updated my XServe (duo G4 1.33 Ghz) from OS X Server 10.4.2 to 10.4.3 via Software update, on November 3. In checking the log files, I notice that the daily.out log reported that the daily periodic maintenance script ran once the morning after the update, but has not run since then. I checked to see if any of my client Macs (11 total which include G4 and G5 iMacs, eMacs, G4 PowerBooks and G4 and G5 PowerMacs) were doing this (updated to standard 10.4.3), and found that all were doing the daily maintenance without issue. However, I asked some colleagues who have OS X Server about their logs, and two responded that they also observe that the daily periodic maintenance script ran once the morning after the 10.4.3 update and not after that. Both also have G4 XServes updated to Server 10.4.3. Another colleague running OS X Server on a G5 PowerMac is not observing this issue after updating from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3. I can get the daily maintenance script to run manually by issuing a 'sudo periodic daily' line command in terminal. However, it is no longer occurring automatically on my XServe. The weekly maintenance was run on schedule early last Saturday morning (Nov 5). However, looking at my weekly.out log today, I can see that it did not run as scheduled this morning (Nov 12). The weekly maintenance continues to run without issue on all my client Macs. I recall that there was a general problem like this in the initial release of Tiger (that affected client as well as server Macs). However, that was fixed in the 10.4.2 update. The periodic scripts ran fine on both Server and Client Macs under 10.4.2. So, it appears that the launchd problem (or something very similar) that existed in the early versions of Tiger, but was fixed in 10.4.2, is back again. However, it is only affecting certain setups (e.g., 10.4.3 Server on an XServe duo G4 1.33 MHz, at least three cases that I know of including mine). It doesn't appear to be affecting any client Macs (running standard 10.4.3) or at least one G5 PowerMac running 10.4.3 Server. [alert admin]

After working with a technical rep at Dymo, we figured out that the problem was with my default label. While it worked fine for me in v6.11, v7.1 had problems with it. Creating a new label solved the problem. [alert admin]

DYMO LabelWriter 7.1 (Mac OS X)
It seems to initially want to open the wrong sized label for my default. With a bit of fumbling, it eventually opens the correct label. However, I cannot figure out how to get 7.1 to open the desire label correctly when I start the program again. I went back to 6.1.1 and all is fine again. I would suggest not updating unless you need support for one of the new LabelWriters. 6.1.1 works just fine with Tiger. [alert admin]

Serious Finder problem still not fixed
There are 48 items on the desktop of the user in question (to clarify this is a client Mac and the user directory is located on our Server). The same desktop causes no problems under 10.5.8. We have now reformatted the drive of the iMac and gave it two partitions one with 10.6.2 and the other with 10.5.8. When booted into 10.6.2 the Finder issues manifest themselves. However, under 10.5.8 all…

Now able to install NeoOffice 3.0 PPC
I downloaded 3.0 PPC yet again (this time from ftp.plusline.de). The size of the file was as expected. I tried the install again, and it worked this time. Sorry for the false alarm. Although this was from a different mirror than I tried previously.

Doesn't work... Application locks and keeps relaunching System Prefs.
I'm having the same problem. I don't have any distinguishing characteristics in my system that I know of. The previous version of LaserLight worked fine. I'm reverting back to that until this is fixed.
