VersionTracker Pro 4.2.2 (Mac OS X)
Multiple lines for single files
Starting maybe a few months ago, VT started listing some applications twice, and a few more than twice. With the last version check I performed, it seems to have gone totally bonkers. One program, CocoThumbX, is listed exactly 47 times. In some cases where a program is listed more than once, one of the duplicates in the correct, new version, and all the rest are old versions. C-C-R-R-A-A-Z-Z-Y-Y. I am continually amazed that, considering how much we are paying for this software, and how limited in scope this application is, that development and bug fixes happen very, very slow. A few point updates a year is pathetic. Some developers do that much every month. I don't know how many subscribers you guys have, but for $50 or more per year per seat, surely you can motivate your programmers to step up the pace (or hire new ones). [alert admin]

Some of the information in the description pane is garbled. For example, when looking at the application UnicodeChecker, under the What's New in This Version heading, the fourth line says:
Fixed a bug where the saved “Unihan Tag Filter†was initially not used for filtering.
Yes, all those weird characters are exactly what I see. Obviously, what it should say is:
Fixed a bug where the saved "Unihan Tag Filter" was initially not used for filtering.
And it's not just this one description. I occasionally see it with other app descriptions too. Not sure if the fault is with the VT app, or the VT database. Either way, it needs to be fixed. [alert admin]

One of my favorites, especially with the "Cold Pricklies" configuration. [alert admin]

I would like to see an option to ignore specific folders, not just volumes. Something that functions like the Spotlight system preference "Privacy" tab would work perfectly for this. [alert admin]

Website syncing not working correctly
The VT website lists 135 apps installed on my current machine, whereas the VT software reports 292 apps (including kernel extensions, screen savers, and so forth). Why aren't both lists identical? I can go through the lists and easily find the discrepancies (for example, AbiWord shows up in the app, but not on the website list). Curiously, the VT website page for the VT application says "VersionTracker Pro is not installed on any of your machines monitored by VersionTracker Pro" ... when in fact it is installed on four machines that I use (3 Macs, 1 Windows). PS: A quick double-check shows that some apps, such as Adium, appear when I do a VT website HTML report that includes multiple computers (I see it listed there for my G5), but not in the CSV report for the same G5 machine. Very odd. [alert admin]

I've had problems with the latest version of VT becoming unresponsive. This afflicts both computers I've installed the software on, a desktop and a laptop. What happens is that during the scanning/updating process, the application GUI goes a little funky (as I recall some of the items in the List panel vanish, but I don't have a way to verify the symptoms right now). Besides that, the program does not respond to any mouse clicks, and the dock icon's contextual menu says "Application has stopped responding" (or something similar). It doesn't happen every time, I would say about every 3rd or 4th time I launch it. VT seems to be sensitive to launching other apps or doing other things with VT is updating its list. [alert admin]

For one reason or another, VT fails to automatically add some applications to its Watch List. Adding the applications manually would appear to be a simple but tedious exercise of dragging and dropping the missing apps into the list. I have done this, and for a minute I get the impression that now my missing apps will be monitored. They appeared in the list with their icons and current versions. But, alas! As soon as the "Check for Updates" process begins, nearly all the apps I added get nixed from the list (about 20-some)! This happened to nearly all the little freeware/shareware apps I added, as well as to one major commercial app (Swift 3D). I cannot conceive why an application would, against the user's wishes and consent, kick perfectly good applications from the list. This has happened to me on two different machines, and it is very annoying. Please fix ASAP. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 3.5.2.158 (Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Over the months I've had VT for Windows, I've requested that various apps be tracked so that the current versions appear in the VT application, including major applications like Picasa. So far I don't think a single one of my suggestions has become trackable in VT, even though most or all of them exist on the VT website. Also, a second major suggestion is to please add support for screensavers, just as the Mac version does. [alert admin]

The UI is a little funky. But it does what I expected it to do. Never had any problems with it, and have been using it ever since Cocktail went shareware. But don't go pressing buttons and trying every feature unless you know what you're doing. Know WHY you're running a command before you do it. This program seems geared for more experienced users, and does not come with many warnings and "Are you really sure you want to do that?" kinds of prompts. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 3.5.2.158 (Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
I use VersionTracker for both Windows and Mac systems. I can definitely say that the Mac version is vastly better than the Windows version. Currently the Windows version is a major disappointment. Although following the tips on this page removed some of the duplicate entries, it is still reporting multiple versions of Norton AntiSpam and Norton Internet Security (6 copies of the latter appear in the list). Not only that, when I click the + sign next to one, the last one in the list expands! Weird. Finally, there are a lot of major programs missing. Anyone heard of: Picasa, QuickTime, Sonic, Microsoft .Net, iView, Dell Media Experience, Creative, Corel Painter? Not only that, but many -- if not all -- of these are actually on the VersionTracker website! A lot of the "small" programs that are currently untracked are on the VT website. So I'm not understanding why so many programs are drawing blanks. [alert admin]

I forgot to add that in every case, the application exists only once on my hard drive, just in case you're wondering.

Ha, this is funny. I am having exactly the same problem with exactly the same file (the WMP install .bin file). Who is to blame: Microsoft, SmithMicro/Allume, or...?

I believe you can accomplish this via the available reports about your system on the VT website.

Many of the products I mentioned do not have current version numbers as of today, but I hope they will be added soon. Regarding iView, on this particular computer I am using the free iView Catalog Reader. The current version is 2.6.3.0. The free version is a separate product -- basically a free browsing client -- and should be tracked separately. Another issue I am having is items in the list composed on strings of apparently random…

Sometimes the information never loads
At the moment, information for the following programs does not appear: FileWrangler, FontDoc, Freefall, iTattle, MySQL Administrator, Old Glory.saver, PHP Studio, Printer Setup Repair, Skype, SQL4X Manager J, SQL4X Viewer, ThinkGeek LED Clock.saver. These are culled from the programs currently reported as out of date; I didn't check any of the others, there are too many (although they also suffer from the same issue, for example, the program Acquisition does not currently display a description).…

Tracking some but not all upgrades
I've made the same request. Not just critical security updates, but all updates for the current version excluding paid updates/upgrades.
