Desktopple Pro 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)
Developer AWOL, better products available for cheaper 
Developer access to the Snow Leopard SDK has been available since at least Spring, but now 3 months after public release Desktopple still doesn't work. I bought a license to DTPro a couple days before updating to Snow Leopard... money down the drain. No sympathy from the developer, who hasn't responded to any of my emails. Oh well, I discovered a better app: Camouflage by Brik Software. That one works beautifully on Snow Leopard, has nicer interface design, and the developer simply asks for a donation. [alert admin]

This is the best of this type of app I've used -- it's easy to see out of the corner of your eye or from across the room thanks to its use of color; and it seems to have the most display options (so you can have different colors, shapes, or no color at all).
Also, importantly, the author has made revisions as late as this summer, while so many of these apps are incomplete abandonware. Very nice work. [alert admin]
