GIFmation 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Works on 3rd try

It crashed twice (first tried to run off DMG, then moved folder to applications folder and it crashed again), then finally ran without crashing. While the user guide has a lot of stuff in it, there is little help within the program, so some of the tools are inscrutable without reading the guide. This doesn't let you edit the mages (as far as I can tell) but lets youu arrange the order and makes an animated GIF out of them. It will let you make a 3 frame gif before paying to try it out. I didn't find it very helpful, but I don't normally make GIFs. [alert admin]

Jon's Phone Tool 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Service?

It sounds intruiging, but I see one thing that would make this much more handy: add it as a service. Then you could highlight a phone number on a web page or in a document, select "Dial Phone" from the services menu (even better is there was a keyboard shortcut) and be talking in no time. VolSpace 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

10.3 Activity monitor does this, too.

If you open Panther's activity monitor and click on the Disk Usage tabe, it'll give you a nice pie chart of your disk spce left. Always nice to have other ways to do it, though. [alert admin]

PC-Mac-Net FileShare Lite 3.1 (Mac OS X)

"freeware"

Usually, "freeware" implies the software is free. The description implies you have to buy a liscense and the company page says they're $25 (but 2-for-1 right now). Someone should change the VT listing to "shareware" [alert admin]

DataViz Documents To Go 6.005 (695) (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Presenter to Go

Margi's presenter-to-go just came out with OS X drivers for their powerpoint (and other source) presentation product. I liked using it with my old HandEra 330 to give lunch presentations. However, the only alterations you can do after loading it on the handheld is changing the order of the slides. [alert admin]

SpamCop 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)

If you're having…

crashes when trying to access Mail's SpamCop preference pane, try deleting the spamcop preference file from your home/library/preferences folder (just search in the finder window for "spam"). That solved it for me. [alert admin]

Ultimate Alarm Clock 1.4.3 (Mac OS X)

To be "ultimate"…

maybe it could also add the alarms to Palm or Cell Phone? Then you could get alarm when you're out. Or even page you, or call you... [alert admin]

Disk Utility can do dup a HD

Disk Utility can duplicate a bootable hard drive without even making an image: just drag the original disk onto the Source address and the place you want to put it into the Destination location, maybe select "erase destination" first and hit the Restore button. Simple and included in the regular installation of OSX.

3ivx is only the video

3ivx is only video encoding, not the audio (which is usually MP3). Synchronization was a big problem with encoders and has been getting much better recently. I can't speak to how well the 3ivx encoder is these days since I haven't used it in quite a while.

Screen control only

VNC is only for doing things on the screen. You need to find another way to transfer files. I think that Timbuk2 and Apple Remote Desktop may have the ability to transfer files. However, both of those cost money.

biege G3 will not reboot

When I couldn't get my All-In-One G3 to boot (just a red no symbol), I just restarted holding down all the modifier keys and delete (cmd-option-control-shift--delete...some combination of these will make it bood from a different drive), and then it was fine and booted into 9.2. I used startup disk to reselect the 10.2.8 installation and am running off it again.

An alternative way to pay?

Maybe there's another way to pay for it that would be more equitable and encourage more people to pay: per use. I have a CD that I'd like to not have scratched, but it's not critical and I could just bum it off a friend, but if I only had to pay a couple bucks to recover it, I might do it. I don't have a ton of scratched CDs since I keep…

i was going to suggest that there's more graphics, but I went to the website and checked the specs and there's only about half the graphics and stuff as in print explosion. I don't know why.
