EmptyDesk 1.0.0.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
This is a great example of how a tiny application can make a big difference. I first installed V.1.0 more than a year ago and have found it extremely useful at those times when I've needed an uncluttered desktop or when I've wanted to hide my applications from prying eyes. I use it only occasionally, but it does the job exactly as described. At only 22kb, for me, it's a must-have. [alert admin]

PicJet Studio 3.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
This is shareware...not freeware!
Don't bother downloadng this file if you're looking for freeware. This is a 30-day shareware program that will cost you $20 for a license. There are tons of very good free photo editing applications out there. [alert admin]

Vista Start Menu SE 2.91 (Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Great alternative to Windows' Start Menu
Works perfectly with Windows XP. I have dozens of programs and this app lets me see virtually ALL of my programs on one screen instead of having to scroll through. Everything is right at my fingertips. A very stable and useful program. [alert admin]

PDF-XChange Viewer 2.035 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
PDF-XChange Viewer is much more than just a replacement for Adobe viewer. It enables users to highlight and even make notes and comments directly onto a PDF document; something that normally is permitted only via Adobe Acrobat. This is a great way to share opinions about a PDF with others. Another useful feature is that you can fill out a PDF form that is not coded to allow for user-filling. Best of all? It's free! Free Download Manager 2.5 build 753 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Free Download Manager (FDM) does everything you would want in software of this type. I've used it for some time, after becoming disenchanted with a similar application by Fresh Download. FDM is far less quirky and totally reliable. [alert admin]

SpamExperts Home 1.2.0.22 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
SpamExperts Home is NOT freeware. After 30 days the software is severely crippled. Purchase price is €30 PER YEAR! This information should be presented along with the software to save us lots of time. [alert admin]

Wise Registry Cleaner 2.95 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
The general rule is, never play around with the registry unless you know what you're doing. Wise Registry Cleaner does NOT clean too much. Just like most other programs like it, you can decide what it is you want to clean. If you're not sure, you have no business running it. [alert admin]

Wire Pilot 2.0.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
The authors provide a good series of demos about how to use the program. The only problem is that when changes are made in a photo, the file is saved as a proprietary file type, "TPI," so the revised photo cannot be opened using normal graphics software. The FULL program removes that restriction, but costs $29.95! No thank you. Free is supposed to be free...not just a come-on. Shame on the developer. I suppose you might be able to print out the revised photo, but you can't share it with anyone who doesn't have the program installed. [alert admin]

Gadwin PrintScreen 4.1.1211 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Of all the free screen capture programs I've seen, Gadwin PrintScreen is the simplest to use and the most versatile. You can't go wrong with this download! [alert admin]

Virtual Sandbox Free Edition 1.0 build 140 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
When will developers learn the difference between "freeware" and "free trial"? Virtual Sandbox is nothing more than a 30-day free trial. Why bother? Use Sandboxie instead, and it really is free! [alert admin]
