Lingon 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
Cron is about to be a thing of the past on OSX, and just as I was looking for a way to deal and learn with the new Launchd system, I found Lingon. So far, I can tell that it works as advertised, the interface is complete and helpfull, with a bit of explanation where it is needed (more would be even better, but that's a great start). I had a few problems at first, but the the programmer's quick and friendly help, I was able to track down the bug to (of course) my own misbehaving application that was in fact, launched just fine from thanx to Lingon. APC Powerchute 1.3.4 (Mac OS X)
Using this program with their otherwise excellent UPS is like having a Ferrari, but a wife who doesn't want you to drive past 30mph... Worse, it's true that the shutdown process is buggy. Finaly, they really don't seem to care about this product being buggy and not being up to par with the PC version. They don't even want to give access to their precious tech information, so one can't even write his own program for it, since Powerchute is so bad... My advice, steer clear of this product and, sadly, their UPS product too, at least until they hire a programmer for a week or two to fix this software issue :) [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
This product worked (more or less) on pre Intel Macs. You can check out the bug reports for that version on macFixit. And if you're lucky enough to have a brand new Intel mac, sorry for you, someone wrote on 5/4/2006 that "Beta testing for Universal version is just a few days away." So maybe their programmer went out for lunch and never came back or something, but if you have an Intel mac don't bother downloading v.2.0.2 and if you have an older mac, use with caution... I found another computer this morning where, after Uninstalling flip4mac (thanx to the provided uninstaller), Office applications started to work fine again... It's sad because otherwise, flip4mac worked ok for most of my wm clips and streams, I hope they come up with an update ASAP. [alert admin]

SpamSieve 2.4.2 (Mac OS X)
I already posted of lukewarm review of that software in which I had serious worries about the lack of safeguards in the interface, and the fact that the program takes a bit of attention and care setup, while other competing products are more "set and forget". Worse, the program had a bug that caused it to add thousand of categories to Entourage's message DB, making Entourage take forever to open. I did write those concerns to the programmer, who responded about a day later with a fix for my message DB, and an improved upgrade of SpamSieve, and more is on the way. So in my view, if the program still requires a bit more attention than I would like to put in a spam filter, I could recover my DB back and the most critical interface concerns have been fixed. And if I compare with bigger companies poor tech support, and the fact that this programs does a really good job at catching spam... here's five stars well deserved :) And now I can say that I would recommend this program to anyone who's not satisfied with the built-in capabilities of his email client and is willing to put some time in correctly setting-up and training the software. SpamSieve 2.4.2 (Mac OS X)
By mistake, I tried to train Spam Sieve on a folder containing thousands of mesasges. Since this program has no progress report and no way to stop the process, I had to force quit Entourage to stop it. When I reopened Entourage it took 10 minutes to open my message database. I found out that Spam Sieve had created thousand of "Uncertain Junk" categories without even asking for confirmation... THAT'S BAD. The unpleasant part is also that Entourage has no way to select many categories for deletion, so you have to do them one by one, and it takes about 4 minutes each time... Spam catching seemed to be good though, until this mess happened. So maybe good if used with extreme caution and programmer should improve the interface. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Worked ok with many files (but not with many other), the main problem I found however is that since I installed it, all my Office X applications will open, then quit unexpectedly (except for Entourage). This won't happen if Office applications are opened as a result of opening office documents. Uninstalling Fip4Mac solved the issue. Hope they'll come up with something better soon we can see it's getting there, but not quite yet... [alert admin]

googol-Choo-Choo 3D 1.8 (Mac OS X)
Read my other reviews, I'm usualy not that nice about faulty software, but somehow, this is one software where the limitations are part of the game and make it so much fun to use. There are also quite a few technical glitches that prevents me from buying it, but I can't wait to see what they'll come up with for V.2.0... In the meantime, one the best way I found to waste some time while enjoying every minutes of it lately... Maybe there should also be a "contributionware" level where people could send their best sets to be included as demos, in exchange for free licenses, rebates and so on... One feature I would like to see is the ability to network it all and have tracks that go beyond the boundaries of our own sets, so we could go visit other online people's set, and also let them share our tracks... First you have to install two more libraries just to make it work. I did install both libraries using the installers. I fired the program once, it worked. I then quit the program and can't make it work anymore. it crashes on launch... I tried deleting the prefs (or actualy the saved folder) nothing works. It did fly much faster to my trashcan than in the virtual air... [alert admin]
