CPU Speed Accelerator 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Seems a shame to give two stars to a product that does what it says... So I've given 5 to even things up. Been using CPUSA for quite a few month now - and have found for the way I work that it seems to smooth the transition between using apps quite effectively. I don't know too much about the tech side of things but when I Expose 'show all windows' into another application, there is less of a stuttering hesitation than without CPUSA. Faster?... well I can't accurately measure, but it seems so in some cases. Whatever the case, if I'm too tight to buy another faster mac or upgrade the one I've got, I've only got myself to blame if I feel a little disappointed when a simple software solution doesn't turn my old G4 into a Saturn 5 rocket. Have been using this for years with several different scanners. Mr Hamrick is VERY conscientious with support and updates - I don't actually think he could be more so. In the past the interface has left a little to be desired, but for some time now, it has been easy to use, and far more informative and adjustable than any of the manufacturers software I have used. I have been using Cadintosh for several years now to make detailed joinery drawings. I have always been impressed with its scaling flexibility - there are no other products to my knowledge near this price range where you can draw in several different scales on the same sheet of paper.
As for support, I can only say that Thorsten Lemke was very helpful when I phoned him a couple of years ago from the UK to Germany with a query - he actually had the help line routed to his mobile for constant support. (I hope he's given that idea up actually, as I wouldnt like to see him suffer burn out!)
The thing to remember is that for a serious CAD user, its not the ease of drawing that is important really, its the ease of REVISION that is important. Also, if , as in my business, you are making a lot of curved or carved work and other technical joinery such as handrailing, there is no substitute for an accurately printed TEMPLATE. Cadintosh allows you to print out templates as big as a football field if you have enough paper, ink and scotch tape.
Any CAD program is going to be hard to get to grips with initially, but this program can give extremely professional results if you take the time. After all being a draughtsman is a profession in itself, so you can't expect to pick it up in one sitting unless you have some real talent. Ive given f our for ease of use as I think its only fair to compare it from the viewpoint of a seasoned user of several different CAD programs
Follow this link for a bit of a drawing done in this program:

Region X 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Don't be misled - You DO need this (or something like it)
It IS necessary to have the ability to switch regions even if your hardware drive is region free (RPC1). This is because whichever software player that you are using cannot always distinguish which type of DVD you are trying to play - SOME DVDs are what has been termed 'smart disks'. These disks (with for instance RCE protection) will not always play even on an unregioned player such as VLC without specifying the CORRECT REGION - You just get a notice come up saying that the wrong region has been selected. What has happened is that the software player has been told by the DVD that the 'wrong region notice' is actually the movie itself! Not very entertaining huh? So this software is designed to solve the problem by allowing you to select the region. Apparently this is best done by hand BEFORE the movie is played. AN EXPERT EXPLANATION IS AVAILABLE AT THIS ADDRESS: http://xvi.rpc1.org/rpc1regions.html [alert admin]

Epson Stylus C80 1.3aD (Mac OS X)
I'll go back to using Gimp Print as it seems to work with all my epson printers. It seems a real cheek though, that a company as big as epson leave it to a free/share ware organization to provide real control for their printers. I wonder if they would invalidate their guarantees if they knew I was not using their driver? ...sneaky... [alert admin]

Freecom Traveller USB 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
......I KNEW that the hardware would work ok with OSX... all that stuff about non standard interfaces that I was given when I phoned Freecom was obviously just an excuse. Mr Heller deserves a little more than a pat on the back for this one! Thank you very much... Just one thing, the downloaded file seems to lose its .img suffix and therefore will not mount. I just added it and all was ok... [alert admin]

Well, when I downloaded Qt it didn't cost me a penny. Also, if you are using java when you use your web browser and for java apps, guess what?! Youre using a framework other than those supplied directly by apple (even though it dl's via software update, its not made by them. Again, Ive never even noticed Qt was there when using qcad2 - a rather good cad drawing application. Dont close your mind. If…
