File Buddy 9.0b1 (Mac OS X)
A regular list of items saves to a .fbList file and subsequently opens fine but a saved list of the results of a duplicates search opens again as an empty list. Also, the "Find Duplicates in Selection" and "Find Unique Items in Selection" in the "Duplicate File Options" toolbar menu do nothing. I'm not into abuse so I won't email the developer directly - hopefully he'll read this and check out these issues.
Except for regular expression searching - which is not that critical to me - I've yet to see any really unique features I'd find useful in the new version. It mostly just has organizational and other interface changes. Probably won't upgrade this time unless something truly useful appears in the release version, like the ability to invert a portion of a selection in a list or the abilty to move files while duplicating their parent directory structure at the destination. SmallImage 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)
doesn't strip quite everything
It is an excellent product but even if you select all the stripping options it can still leave behind a few bytes of the JFIF header. I would be a very happy user and would also happily send a donation if the author could add an option to remove this info too. Until then I'm still stuck using JStrip in VPC :( [alert admin]

DoubleCommand 1.6 (Mac OS X)
You are, if I may say so, sir, the man.
My enter key on my 17"PB is now happily fulfilling it's true destiny as a fn key once again. I suggest everyone who's been waiting on pins and needles these many months for a real key remapping solution send Master Baltaks a donation (and if you can figure out how, send a donation to the folks at Kodachi too since they appear to be the ones who initially discovered the secret). Apple AirPort 4.2 (Mac OS X)
Check this document for information on the new option for the WAN port:
draft-nat-port-mapping.txt
Basically, it allows clients to create their own temporary port forwarding mappings and also allows the Base Station to advertise those mappings to the world. Enabling this option is a potential security issue so yes, a KB article from Apple regarding the ramifications of this new wrinkle would be much appreciated, not to mention an update to the Designing Airport Networks manual. For now, a rule of thumb would be: If you don't what it does and the ABS does what you need as-is, then don't enable it. [alert admin]

The description of the "bug" this software purports to fix is exactly what you'll see if you go to the Keyboard & Mouse prefpane and enable "All controls" for Full keyboard access. If you don't like this behavior, just set it to "Text boxes and lists only". Other than that, the software does exactly what it says it's going to do - huzzah. [alert admin]

File Buddy 8.1.4.1 (Mac OS X)
I've used FileBuddy for years and I find it really useful. Just a quick note to anyone else who uses it and finds any technical issues: If you report any problems to the developer be sure to only include details about the problem itself. Avoid any subjective comments or suggestions; if you do or if he's unhappy with your rhetoric in any way, he'll pick it apart and harass you via email. [alert admin]

PresButan 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Works as advertised. Hitting the Return key instead of cmd-O is a bit of a time saver in the world of keystrokes - nice that someone is able to bring Windoze functionality to our poor, retarded OS... :D Only one serious flaw: the name of the file selected momentarily switches to editable when the return key is hit and then goes back to non-editable after about .25 seconds - if you hit any other keys during that little window you will rename the file. If the author can fix this I'd give it five stars. [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.03 (Mac OS X)
I'll chime right in and say that this software does have a lot of work in front of it but I want to earnestly encourage the developers to keep it going in spite of some of the dross feedback on VT. For all who've used this software here's my considered advice based on 10 years as a computer service professional. Do not run any defrag utility on any drive that hasn't been cleared by one or more of the better directory repair utilities; I myself start with DiskWarrior and then follow up with NDD because I know that even SpeedDisk has the potential to trash a hard drive if NDD isn't completely happy with it. Each directory repair utility must be run multiple times until it reports that no errors were found. Hopefully iDefrag will grow smart enough that it can deal with directories that have only had DW run on them because there will come a time (in March, perhaps) when NUM will not run on OSX any more. Hopefully by then iDefrag will be mature enough to take up the torch because TechTool is way too painfully slow to use on a regular basis. As for the debate about whether defragging is necessary these days I can say with much experience that while most smaller files resist fragmentation under HFS+, it still occurs and will still slow things down. Reduction of the number of extents by defragmenting is the only way around this. [alert admin]

Does this software have a bad interface? As a Windows port it is absolutely hideous and suffers from all the flaws inherent in such a piece. Is this software overpriced? IMHO, yes, for its current state of development. BUT: this software has very flexible options and does one thing that none of the wget wrappers out there (and no other Mac software that I could find, correct me if I'm wrong) will do. This app is a gem because it will analyse java and pull out media that is hiding behind java pop-up windows or any other scripts. It's not perfect, however, and seemed to miss a file or two from quite a few directories of the site I tested. Right now I'd consider paying $10-15US for it but would pay the $30 if the interface was de-uglified and I didn't have to finish its job for it. [alert admin]

Assistant.dfont but downloading, unstuffing and running this app takes less steps and/or typing than doing it by hand or CLI. [alert admin]

Search on VT for AJoiner - it's free and works great. Just set any .001 files to open with it and joining is automatic.

Great! I'm really looking forward to using it when you finalize that feature. I just discovered that JStrip is now freeware so if you have VPC and want to compare what it leaves vs SmallImage, it won't cost any extra. Thanks for all your hard work.
